18वीं लोकसभा के पहले सत्र में ओम बिरला को एक बार फिर स्पीकर पद के लिए चुन लिया गया। सदन के नेता प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने ओम बिरला को लगातार दूसरी बार लोकसभा का स्पीकर चुने जाने के लिए बधाई दी। इस दौरान उन्होंने कहा कि भविष्य में 17वीं लोकसभा के संबंध में जब विश्लेषण होंगे उसके बारे में लिखा जाएगा तो भारत के भविष्य को दिशा देने में आपकी अध्यक्षता वाली लोकसभा की बहुत बड़ी भूमिका रही है। कितने ही महत्वपूर्ण और ऐतिहासिक कानून 17वीं लोकसभा ने आपकी अध्यक्षता में इस सदन ने पारित किए हैं।
