00:00Currently, I want to inform you that we have temporarily closed the courts because of yesterday's protests, which went out of hand.
00:20Because of security issues, the security of our staff, the security of our judges, our magistrates.
00:30We also had the circuit, the judges of the Court of Appeal were present here.
00:38Because of what happened, the High Court borders the National Library.
00:52The library was put on fire, it was razed, and there was quite some tension around here.
01:02Eventually, at about 4pm yesterday, judges of the Court of Appeal and deputy registrars had to be evacuated on an ambulance.
01:15Because of that, we felt like a decision was made for operations for today to be put on a short break.
01:28So that we actually customize our way forward based on security and considering that we are also aware that tomorrow there are going to be protests.
01:40Currently, there is a meeting underway for magistrates.
01:45We are trying to find a way forward in the interest of service delivery, in the interest of safety.
01:53We have to balance all these things.
01:55We have issued notices to LSK and to our court users in general and litigants that we may resume duty on Friday.
02:09Depending on what happens tomorrow.
02:14On Friday, when we resume duty, all of us, we are going to be issuing directions on matters that were slated for today and tomorrow.
02:28Yesterday, we were fortunate to have handled all our respective cases.
02:35On Friday, based on what happens tomorrow, we are going to issue directions for the matters that were slated for today and tomorrow.
02:42It's unfortunate that our municipal court was raised.
02:48We have lost the entire registry of the municipal court matters.
02:52Usually, Honorable Ngueno is the one who presides in that court.
02:57He is a senior resident magistrate.
02:59He has not only been handling municipal matters, but also the chief magistrate's court matters.
03:05We will also seek directions from the CUC, from the court users committee, from the leadership and management team, and also from headquarters to see how we move forward.
03:21We want to assure our clients that in the end, even if we take time, we will serve.
03:29Thank you.
