00:00There are many children in government schools whose eyesight is weak and they don't even
00:07know that they have this problem.
00:10When they read books, they have to look at the book very closely to understand it well
00:16and then they can study.
00:18Ridaan identified this problem.
00:21He created an app so that the children can have an eye test.
00:25The name of the app is Vision to Vision.
00:27Ridaan is here to talk to us.
00:29My name is Ridaan Sharma.
00:31I am a 12th grade student from Sriram School, Maulsiri, Gurgaon.
00:36I used to go to different government schools and slums from a very young age
00:41and teach basic maths and computer science to the children.
00:44At that time, I saw that the children had a lot of difficulty in seeing blackboard.
00:49Even if I made them pass the class, they still had difficulty in seeing blackboard.
00:54I did a lot of research on this problem and I found that
00:57there are at least 2.2 billion visually impaired people in the world.
01:02In India, there are 93 lakh visually impaired people out of which 2,70,000 are blind.
01:09In today's generation, 1 out of 1000 children is blind.
01:14The main reason for this problem is visual impairment.
01:19I thought that I should do something about this problem.
01:22That's why I started Vision to Vision.
01:25The main aim of Vision to Vision is to improve the vision of children from underserved communities.
01:31Our process is divided into two stages.
01:34In the first stage, we conduct free eye camps in different government schools throughout Delhi.
01:38In the second stage, we provide free glasses to the children
01:48which improves their vision and helps them read.
01:52In these camps, we raise awareness among children and their parents
01:57about how to take care of their eye health.
01:59How does the app work?
02:01How did you develop the app?
02:03What technology did you use?
02:05From which company did you get the app?
02:07I made the app on Android Studio.
02:10I made the front end of the app with XML and the back end with Java.
02:15The app will come to your phone.
02:18You have to keep the phone at a distance of 40 cm.
02:21Three sets of letters will appear on your screen.
02:23Their size will gradually decrease.
02:26You have to press the mic button to read the letters.
02:29If you read it correctly, it will show green.
02:31If you read it incorrectly, it will show red.
02:33Similarly, the left eye and the right eye will be tested.
02:37Finally, you will see your visual acuity and estimated eye power.
02:41What is the accuracy of this app?
02:43Is it equivalent to the eye test we do at the doctor?
02:48We have accumulated a snellen chart in this app.
02:51When you go to the doctor,
02:53there is a chart in which he gives you the letters.
02:55We have put the same chart in the app
02:57and calibrated it with the app.
03:00You can do the eye test on the phone.
03:02We are writing a research paper on the accuracy of the app.
03:05We are checking it.
03:07We have noticed that in many schools,
03:10we have tested with the app and normal eye test.
03:13In 90% of the cases, the app is very accurate.
03:17You are running a project in government schools.
03:20How has the government given you permission to do this?
03:23How many children have you tested so far?
03:25So far, we have done 43 camps in 42 different government schools.
03:29We have tested 17,000 children.
03:31We have provided glasses to 1,600 children.
03:34I spoke to DD West Zone, Shri Rajveer Singh.
03:38He liked our vision.
03:40He saw that we are bringing some improvements in our problem.
03:43That is why he allowed us to do camps.
03:47Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health and Welfare
03:50have also praised our app and recognized it.
03:53Our app is very accurate and recognized.
03:58How far do you want to work?
04:02In which districts of Delhi have you worked?
04:05We have conducted all these camps in the West Zone of Delhi.
04:08Our app has 1,50,000 downloads all around India.
04:12Many students are benefiting from our app.
04:16Our tagline is Vision for All by the Year 2045.
04:21This is in line with our Prime Minister's goal.
04:24We want to provide glasses to all children in India by 2045.
04:28We want to improve their vision.
04:30As you heard, how helpful is the app made by Ridhan?
04:35He is also working in schools.
04:38Anyone of any age can test their vision with this app.
04:42Ridhan will tell you how to test your vision.
04:45I am Rahul Chauhan for ETV with cameraman Sandeep Singh.
