00:00What do you miss most about 1980s Sheffield?
00:02Oh I think the hole in the road obviously, the fountain at the top of Fargate,
00:08maybe even the Lido in Millhouses Park if it was still there then.
00:12Tell me what you miss most about 1980s Sheffield please.
00:16Yeah the Moor. The Moor at one time we had the second best shopping area outside London with all
00:25the big shops, Redgates, all the massive shops and it was absolutely thriving in the 70s and 80s.
00:35Could you tell me what you miss most about 1980s Sheffield please?
00:38Yes all the big stores and the different shops yeah.
00:42Any ones in particular?
00:44John Lewis, British Home Stores, Lebanon's, you know you could get everything,
00:52everything and anything from those three.
00:55What do you miss most about 1980s Sheffield?
00:59Oh it was definitely the shops you know, Redgates, Armistores, Lewis's,
01:09that shop what sell Airfix models.
01:13BT's?
01:14BT's that's it, BT's yeah they were totally different set up in the 80s than today because
01:20looking around here it's all about eating out and fast food outlets you know, Five Guys,
01:28McDonald's, Burger King, you name it we've got all got them.
01:32But it was just a different era then and unfortunately the people living today,
01:37you know the young, they don't know any different so.
01:40What do you miss most about 1980s Sheffield?
01:431980s Sheffield was brilliant, we used to be able to go out on a Thursday night,
01:48a Friday night, a Saturday night, a Sunday night and a Monday night and still have change in his
01:52pocket, you can't do that anymore because prices have just gone through the roof,
01:56but it used to be brilliant and you start thoroughly enjoy it.
01:59You didn't have to go out every night but a lot of nights you could go out
02:02and Monday night could be as good as a Saturday night, it was that good.
02:07What do you miss most about 1980s Sheffield?
02:10Oh 1980s Sheffield I think I remember most going shopping in Fargate which looks very
02:16different now, so there were lots of really good shops down there in those days like Wallace
02:23and well WH Smith was where we got all our pens and books from so we really liked that place.
02:31Yeah it was just that was sort of the hub where we used to shop the most,
02:34so it was very busy and lively so I think it's Fargate, yeah.
02:40Could you tell me what you miss most about Sheffield in the 1980s please?
02:44I said there's the safety of the female population rather than today because
02:52they could walk about any time of the day or night and get home safely.
03:00Now they have to, it would probably have to be a taxi ride,
03:05but I always told me somebody would pick them up and collect them.
