00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're looking at the best cutscenes and story moments from
00:09The Legend of Zelda.
00:10Naturally, there will be a few spoilers along the way.
00:25Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:29the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:33The Waking of the Wind Fish, The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening
00:44There's a lot to admire about the quirky, somewhat existential story of Link's Awakening.
00:49Shipwrecked on the oddly charming Koholint, Link comes to find that the entire island,
00:53and everyone on it, is part of the Wind Fish's dream.
00:56This added a new spin to the franchise formula.
00:59You collect your trinkets, beat the boss, and claim victory, however as the characters
01:03you've come to know disappear while the deity's ballad plays, a bittersweet feeling
01:07washes over you.
01:08We're happy to see Link awake on the sea, free from torment, but it leaves you with
01:12a beautiful ache unique to this entry.
01:14The ending is fantastic no matter which version you're playing, although the remake's animation
01:19is particularly lovely.
01:26The Attack on Kakariko Village, The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
01:37You might think that, after rescuing the children in Kakariko Village, they're far from any
01:42more danger.
01:43But that's when Twilight Princess proves you wrong.
01:46As Talo and Beth converse in the street, the vile King Bulblin charges toward them.
01:51With cinematic flair and a terrific use of slow-mo, Talo turns to flee, Beth stands frozen
01:56in fear, and the underdog Kallen rushes forward to push her out of the way.
02:00It's an excellent character moment for Kallen, who at this point admired Link's courage
02:04without the ability to imitate it.
02:06It's also a great one for Link, who chases after with hate in his eyes over the thought
02:10of someone he cares for getting taken once again.
02:19The Doomed Lovers, The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
02:31Majora's Mask features some of the best sidequests in the series.
02:35And of all of them, the tale of Anju and Caffe is the most emotionally resonant.
02:40Creating it takes a lot of effort, spanning a full three-day cycle and bringing in multiple
02:44other characters.
02:45At the end, the two are finally reunited, mere moments before the moon falls.
02:50With Caffe having been cursed and Anju worried over the fate of her one true love, this moment
02:55is one of clarity, beauty, and sorrow all wrapped together.
02:59Even the incoming certain demise doesn't stop them from exchanging masks in their own
03:03private ceremony.
03:04They accept their fate, choosing to greet it together in love.
03:14Medli's Awakening, The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker
03:23Medli is one of the more strongly written characters in Wind Waker.
03:27When you first meet her, she is plagued by self-doubt, having only recently been promoted
03:31to the Dragon Valoo's attendant after the passing of her mentor, Prince Komali's grandmother.
03:37Despite not believing in herself, she does everything in her power to help Komali.
03:42And you can't help but feel for her.
03:43This background makes her awakening as the Earth Sage later in the game a truly stunning
03:48moment.
03:49A character so unsure about themselves is suddenly given insight into her greater purpose,
03:53finally gaining some semblance of confidence.
03:56But this moment is also tinged with sadness.
03:59With Medli choosing to leave without saying goodbye to Komali, as she'd rather he remember
04:03her as a simple attendant.
04:12I'm Still Your Zelda, The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword
04:21One of the things Skyward Sword does best is building up the relationship between Link
04:25and Zelda.
04:26We get a great sense of Link's drive to find her, as the story teasingly pulls them apart
04:31several times.
04:32The scene where Link finally reaches her, far in the past, gives us a ton of interesting
04:37lore, including that Zelda is the goddess Hylia, reborn in a mortal form.
04:42What makes this scene so special, however, is Link and Zelda's relationship.
04:46She decides to seal herself away there to strengthen the seal on Demise.
04:51While Link pounds his fists on the ever-hardening crystal, Zelda makes him promise to be the
04:56one to wake her up this time.
04:58And it broke the hearts of Zellink shippers everywhere.
05:07Zelda's Despair, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
05:16The flashbacks of Breath of the Wild paint the picture of a princess with an unbelievable
05:20burden on her shoulders.
05:22Unable to awaken her sealing powers in time, she loses many people close to her when Calamity
05:27Ganon attacks.
05:29Her despair is felt precisely in a scene that shows her fleeing from the destruction with
05:34Link.
05:35As soft piano plays and Zelda blames herself for all the lost lives, it's hard to keep
05:39from getting choked up, and Patricia Somerset's performance is painfully, yet wonderfully
05:45downcast.
05:46Zelda's lowest point then makes the subsequent scene, where her powers awaken in order to
05:50save Link, that much more powerful.
06:02The Wind of Death, The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker
06:11In Ocarina of Time, we never got much of a sense of Ganondorf's personality or reasoning
06:15beyond a desire for power.
06:17Wind Waker sought to rectify that, and did so in what we believe to be the villain's
06:22best monologue.
06:23Before the final fight, Ganondorf speaks of his homeland, and how the wind brought death
06:27during the scorching day as well as during the frigid night.
06:31But with Hyrule's lush greenery and prosperity, he grew to covet the kingdom's wind, and
06:36therefore its seat of power, demanding satisfaction from the gods themselves.
06:41It adds an interesting layer to the big bad we haven't really seen since, a moment of
06:45soft reflection before he springs forward to attack.
06:48He's nearly successful in gaining the Triforce too, with only the King of Hyrule able to
06:52stop him before the battle begins.
07:03The Failed Execution, The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
07:16Where Wind Waker gave us insight into Ganondorf's desires, Twilight Princess expanded on his
07:21unbelievable might.
07:23After reaching the end of the Arbiter's Grounds dungeon, Link and Midna are met by
07:27the Sages.
07:28They tell of the traitorous Ganondorf's planned execution, running him through with
07:32an impressive sword.
07:33Sadly for them, it doesn't work, with Ganondorf's Triforce of Power keeping him alive.
07:38He then breaks free, kills one of the Sages, and pulls the sword from his chest in a supreme
07:44display of strength.
07:45It's all the Sages can do to banish him to another realm.
07:48This scene immediately set up the iconic villain to be more powerful and dangerous than we
07:52had seen before.
08:02Goodbye Fi, The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword
08:11There are a lot of great moments following the defeat of Demise in Skyward Sword, but
08:15the undeniable strongest is between Link and his unwavering servant, Fi.
08:20Many players complained about her robotic personality, but it made her goodbye all the
08:24more powerful.
08:25With her purpose complete, she plans to sleep forever within the Master Sword, essentially
08:29ceasing to exist how she does now.
08:32She takes the time to thank Link for her journey with him has made her feel happiness and friendship.
08:37Having Fi deliver the most heartfelt moment of the game is something none of us expected,
08:42and these feelings are amplified by the music, a stripped down version of her theme designed
08:47to pool at the heartstrings.
08:55The Catch The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
09:06At the beginning of Tears of the Kingdom, Link fails to catch Zelda as she falls into
09:10another time.
09:11This makes the moment where he does catch her a phenomenally impactful moment.
09:16After Ganondorf's defeat, Rauru, Link, and Sonya are able to turn Zelda back into her
09:20normal form.
09:21We feel a great sense of satisfaction considering she's been stuck as a dragon for hundreds
09:26if not thousands of years, but she's still in need of rescue.
09:30As she plummets, we're given control of Link to do what he couldn't the first time.
09:35This provides one of the most triumphant moments in a series built on them.
09:39Upon waking and seeing Link, Zelda's infectious joy is enough to spread a giant smile across
09:45your face in one of the happiest endings in the franchise.
