00:00Already, the power of the Sanctum returns to me!
00:05Your days of plundering its secrets end today!
00:10Welcome to Mojo Plays.
00:12And even though the PS5 is barely into the middle of its life cycle,
00:16there are still plenty of games that have somehow managed to go almost completely overlooked by most gamers.
00:23You've got the money, we've got the power.
00:26So let's talk.
00:31Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:39Rise of the Ronin
00:41Those who cleave to the past, those who embrace the new,
00:46and the Ronin, a warrior free of all masters and bonds.
00:51Upon its first reveal, many wrote Rise of the Ronin off as the Ghost of Tsushima clone.
00:57But in truth, the game has much more in common with Assassin's Creed than Sucker Punch's masterpiece.
01:03Set during the early 1900s in Japan, players are given a massive open world to explore,
01:09and their choices can affect the outcome of the narrative and their relationships with the many real-life historical figures they meet.
01:16The game's combat is where the game truly shines,
01:20offering players various weapons to suit their playstyle and a plethora of satisfying finishing moves.
01:25The game does suffer from the traditional Ubisoft formula with an excess of map icons,
01:31but the world itself is fun to explore full of varied traversal mechanics.
01:36Assassin's Creed fans who have been longing for the series to finally go to Japan,
01:40or those anxiously awaiting the next Ghost game from Sucker Punch, shouldn't ignore Rise of the Ronin.
01:46Friendly? Need all the help we can get.
01:50I'm going to need you on our side.
01:53Marvel's Midnight Suns
02:09We'll be the first to admit we were a little skeptical about this one when it was first announced.
02:15A card battle game set in the Marvel Universe from the developers of XCOM seemed like a stretch.
02:22The use of randomized cards in turn-based battles was also a major hang-up for us,
02:27and seemingly quite a few others given the game's lukewarm sales.
02:31However, what easily could have been a microtransaction-heavy gotcha game
02:35turned out to be surprisingly fleshed out and added additional strategic depth to battles.
02:41Getting to know the many familiar heroes in between combat encounters,
02:44and using the growth of those relationships to unlock further combat abilities
02:48makes the time between battles just as important,
02:51and thankfully, all of our favorite heroes are well-written and fleshed out.
02:56Would we have preferred an XCOM-style Marvel game? Absolutely.
03:00But if Midnight Suns clicks with you, it's one of the best superhero outings in years.
03:05We need to plan for what comes next.
03:07What's next? Armageddon has already happened, caretaker.
03:11What's next is hell.
03:14Trepang 2
03:18Trepang 2
03:22We'll be featuring a lot of throwback games to scratch that nostalgic itch on our list,
03:27so just be prepared for that.
03:29Not every first-person shooter wants to be the next Call of Duty,
03:33and Trepang 2 takes more inspiration from the FEAR series than anything else,
03:37and honestly, we're here for it.
03:40The use of slow-mo during gunfights is top-notch,
03:44with all the classic bullets and blood exploding in gloriously gratuitous fashion
03:48that fills us with childish glee for the days before everything was hyper-realistic.
03:53The plot is as forgettable as you could imagine,
03:56but that's not what you're playing this game for.
03:58The real draw is the ballet of bullets,
04:01and the devs clearly had fun creating every single enemy encounter,
04:05and given the game's lightning-fast pace and the enemy's surprisingly competent AI,
04:10each playthrough can end up feeling like a brand-new experience.
04:24Pacific Drive
04:26There's no greater bond than between a driver, the road, and their vehicle,
04:31and no game embodies this idea more than Pacific Drive.
04:35Set against the backdrop of supernatural shenanigans in the Pacific Northwest,
04:39players need to traverse the many dangers of the Exclusion Zone,
04:43and gather resources to upgrade their station wagon to go further into the Zone
04:47for even better equipment and gear.
04:49The survival mechanics are deeply woven into the gameplay,
04:53and with your home base on wheels needing constant maintenance
04:56in addition to experiencing supernatural events that give your car a mind of its own,
05:00every trip into the Zone is a new experience,
05:03turning this extraction survival sim into more of a roguelike.
05:07The background narrative revolving around the events that led to the Zone
05:10are wonderfully incorporated into the role itself,
05:13and the deeper players go, the more they learn about the world.
05:17Still Wakes the Deep
05:25There is truly no shortage of horror exploration games out there,
05:29but few, if any, are as immersive as Still Wakes the Deep.
05:33Set on an oil rig in the 1970s,
05:35everything about the rig is recreated with such impressive detail
05:39you'd swear the developers had lived this life themselves.
05:43Full of interesting side characters,
05:45simply exploring the rig and getting to know your crew members is an experience itself.
05:50However, once the horror kicks in, it really kicks in.
05:54Drawing inspiration from Lovecraftian lore,
05:57the creatures the player attempts to escape from are truly spawned from the deepest of nightmares.
06:02The isolation and claustrophobia of being trapped in the middle of the ocean is palpable,
06:07and is arguably a terrifying experience all on its own.
06:10It's rare when all the elements of a horror experience come together this perfectly,
06:15and the game's relatively short length makes surviving this nightmare easily digestible in a single playthrough.
06:21Medic! I'm right here! Archie, stop!
06:26Wait! Wait!
06:33Guys, guys! We've got company!
06:36Anyone expecting a silver freak?
06:42Drop it, scum!
06:44Robocop has been around long enough that much of its future technology are now modern-day conveniences,
06:50but Robocop remains a timeless icon much like the Terminator,
06:54and has finally received a game deserving of its status.
06:58Putting players in the cybernetic boots of the one-man police squad,
07:01players will need to clean up the streets of Old Detroit,
07:04and the decisions they make during the game's many missions can affect the overall outcome of the story,
07:09giving players far more agency over what easily could have been a traditional licensed shooter experience.
07:15Rogue City perfectly nails the aesthetic of the classic Robocop films,
07:19and even got many series regulars to reprise their roles, including Robocop himself, Peter Wellers.
07:26Fans of the films, or even just a good old first-person shooter experience,
07:30owe it to themselves to give this one a shot.
07:33People would do anything to be in your position, to have your abilities,
07:38and yet you attach yourself to something that is the weakest in you, to the part that's still human.
07:46Evil West
07:48With every game these days chasing the Uncanny Valley,
07:57sometimes you just want a game focused on nothing more than the power fantasy of letting you loose to have a good time.
08:05A throwback to the PS2 era of third-person shooters,
08:08Evil West sets players on a quest to quell a supernatural uprising,
08:12and gives you an obscene amount of steampunk and Tesla-inspired equipment to do it.
08:17A ridiculous premise full of clunky dialogue in the best ways,
08:21solid, impactful, and bloody combat,
08:24and some truly grotesque monster designs,
08:26Evil West knows exactly what it wants to be,
08:29and wants nothing more than its players to have fun.
08:32Full of old-school combos and finishing moves,
08:35and a nice lean and linear campaign,
08:37Evil West is the blockbuster weekend rental of video games,
08:41and the perfect nostalgic binge for players longing for the old-school days of gaming.
08:46We need to be bigger than ever.
08:47And smarter.
08:48With better protocols.
08:49And stronger lines of communication.
08:51Well, it sounds like you two have it all under control.
08:55You've got my full support.
08:57A Plague Tale Requiem
08:59You shouldn't have come.
09:02You don't want to do this, believe me.
09:04You talk too much.
09:05A Plague Tale Innocence enraptured players in the emotional journey of Amicia and her brother Hugo,
09:12as they navigated the Black Plague and the endless stream of highly infected and deadly rats.
09:17The sequel managed to build on this premise in every way imaginable.
09:22The stakes and the world are much bigger.
09:25The number of rats and dangers the pair encounter are somehow even more insurmountable,
09:30and the emotional bond between brother and sister remains core to the journey,
09:34as Amicia learns to deal not only with Hugo's condition,
09:37but the rage building inside her.
09:40The gorgeous world remains both tragically beautiful and horrific,
09:44as they travel the French countryside running from both the rats and the Inquisition,
09:48and combat has been greatly improved,
09:50providing players with more options during encounters,
09:53as well as more ways to approach the game stealthily.
09:56The entire series deserves far more recognition than it has received.
10:01Your voice doesn't help.
10:04Stop trying to be so tough.
10:06You might learn something.
10:09Prince of Persia The Lost Crown
10:11All hope rests with us, the Immortals, to rescue him and save the Empire.
10:18The Prince of Persia franchise has been dormant for the better part of a decade now,
10:23and the planned remake of The Sands of Time's future ended up needing a rewind itself,
10:28but in the meantime, Ubisoft took a break from the Assassin's Creed machine
10:32to give players probably one of the best and most innovative Metroidvanias of the generation.
10:38While the game might be Prince of Persia in name alone,
10:41the puzzles, combat, and world are all wonderfully designed and crafted
10:45with their own unique visual style and aesthetic.
10:48Over the course of the game, the player will acquire numerous time-bending abilities
10:53that are well implemented into the gameplay and combat encounters,
10:56along with some truly impressive boss fights.
10:59The game arguably should have been a major hit with Metroidvania fans,
11:03but for whatever reason, the game disappeared from most players' radar
11:07as the year of major releases carried on.
11:19Returnal
11:29It's not often a critically acclaimed Sony first-party game gets lost in the shuffle,
11:34but barely a year into the PS5, and Returnal kind of just came and went.
11:39Developed by Bullet Hell Maestro's Housemarque,
11:42the team adapted their perfected style of gameplay to the 3D space
11:46and wrapped it all together in a twisting, mind-bending time-loop narrative
11:50that would have had Christopher Nolan checking the game's wiki for answers.
11:54Admittedly, the game's difficulty, as well as the fact there was no way to save mid-run at launch,
11:59was a strict barrier for entry, but that's honestly also the game's biggest draw.
12:04Not completing the game in a single playthrough, that was just ridiculous.
12:08The Souls-like difficulty mixed with roguelike elements
12:11keeps those dedicated enough coming back for just one more run,
12:15and the game's surprisingly deep and emotional narrative
12:18is more than enough for the rest to push through the game's difficulty spikes.
12:24Maestro received my signal.
12:27Then...
12:29That's it.
