00:00I'm in Elgin Town Hall with Labour councillor Sandy Keith, veteran of the Moray Council.
00:06Sandy, still a few hours to go here in Elgin in terms of the count here for Moray West
00:10near Strasbourg, but nationally it's looking like Labour's going to paint the country red.
00:15How are you feeling about that?
00:17Well obviously as a Labour councillor and a Labour member I'm absolutely delighted that
00:22we've made a comeback, particularly after the dark days of 2019 when a victory on this
00:28scale would have seemed unimaginable.
00:31Yeah, I mean how do you feel Sir Keir Starmer will be as a Prime Minister?
00:35I think he'll, you know, I think he'll surprise many people. I think he'll be a steady hand,
00:43which is what we've required after the chaos of Boris Johnston and Liz Truss in particular.
00:50So I actually think he'll surprise a number of people. He's the type of person that you'd want
00:54to take the decisions, a cool head in many decisions that need to be taken.
01:01And in terms of the scale of the victory as it looks like it's emerging,
01:04it could be the biggest ever majority for the Labour Party.
01:09Yeah, and I'm not going to apologise for that. It's certainly something that I welcome.
01:13It will give us a majority which we can use, but we have to use in such a way that we take
01:20the people of the country with us. But I think Keir Starmer will keep us on the ground. He's
01:25changed the Labour Party and he'll be able to change the country with such majority.
01:29Excellent. Thank you, sir.
