00:00We're off to meet an Inverness mum who shares her story as to why she's taking part in the
00:04Blue Lights Got Talent event happening this weekend.
00:07The reason I wanted to take part in Blue Lights Got Talent is because as a family we're very
00:13aware of how important local charities are.
00:15Cian has a rare condition called Soto's Syndrome.
00:18He was diagnosed very early.
00:20We were quite lucky to find out when he was very young, just only a couple of weeks old.
00:25He has very complex needs.
00:27He has a global developmental delay, autism, ADHD, he has epilepsy and a lot of medical
00:32conditions as well.
00:34He's non-verbal so I think it's quite difficult for him to communicate and I think he lives
00:40in his own world and we have to sort of enter his world.
00:44Our world is quite scary for him.
00:46He has issues with his mobility so he has problems with his ankles and his balance.
00:52He is able to weight bear and walk with support but he needs specialist splints to wear around
00:59his ankles so he uses a wheelchair most of the time to get around.
01:02He continues to develop in his own way and reaches his own milestones at his own pace.
01:08One little finger, one little finger, one little finger, ta, ta, ta.
01:15After hearing Colleen's incredible story, I wanted to find out how her newfound friendship
01:20was going with her singing partner Claire on the run up to the big event this weekend.
01:25Singing with Claire has been amazing.
01:27We didn't know each other before this so this has been a whole new experience for us and
01:32yeah, definitely I think we'll be friends for life after this.
01:35I initially entered Blue Lights Got Talent just to try and do something for myself.
01:39I'm a mum of two children and after years of putting them first, I've decided to set
01:44a new challenge.
01:45So my chosen charity when I initially entered was going to be British Heart Foundation in
01:50memory of my mum who passed away in 2020.
01:54I then sadly lost one of my work colleagues, Lorna, who was a nurse practitioner at the
01:58hospital who was just amazing.
02:00If we were to win, adding my donation to a collection in her memory which will go towards
02:05a Lucas machine which administers CPR in emergency situations.
02:09If this equipment was available in NHS Highlands, this would have been used for my mum when
02:14she passed away too and I'm sure she would be very supportive of this.
02:17Also about the time when I applied for Blue Lights Got Talent, my dad had a heart attack
02:21and took quite poorly.
02:23So it's just something that kind of touches with him as well, just for a really good cause.
02:27I want to mummy win!
