00:00I'm absolutely thrilled and I'm ever so grateful to the people that have put
00:04their trust in me. It's a real privilege and an honour, but I also want to say
00:09that you know I am the MP for all my constituents regardless of who they
00:14voted for because I firmly believe that's the proper role of a Member of
00:19Parliament.
00:20And for a landslide Labour election, there's a sense of change among the community. Do you feel like you were able to provide that for Daventry?
00:29Yeah, I mean, look, I think there's been a lot of good work that Chris Heaton-Harris did.
00:32He was an excellent MP for this constituency for 14 years and I want to
00:36sort of continue that work, working with the local community, listening to them
00:41and understanding the things that they want to see happen here and also
00:45represent their views in Parliament. I know that, you know, people in the rural
00:49community, farmers, are concerned that their voice might not be heard. People,
00:53young people, feel that they don't get their voice heard enough so again I want
00:58to make sure that, you know, every part of the constituency, different age groups,
01:02whatever their interests, I'm keen to try and make their voice heard in Parliament.
01:06So what are your main priorities and aims moving forward? And what kind of things have people told you about over the last few years of your campaign work?
01:14So, a lot of things that were raised with me. People concerned about the
01:18preservation of our countryside, concerned about solar farms, you know,
01:22taking up valuable agriculture land, but also they were concerned about health
01:27services and education services and they want to make sure that, you know,
01:32Daventry constituency gets its fair share. But then there are pockets of
01:36local issues too, like the condition of our roads and the Aysham bypass. These
01:40are the sorts of things that I want to help people with and also those that are
01:45being affected by HS2 to make sure that the community are properly listened to
01:49the company as that development is happening. And what kind of response did you have over the last six weeks from the people of Daventry?
01:55Actually it was good, you know, people and actually people appreciated the
01:59opportunity to have that conversation. There's no doubt that some were quite
02:04angry with the Conservative Party and we've got some lessons to learn. We've
02:07got a lot of listening to do and we've got to take our time now to make sure we
02:12do that properly and effectively.
02:14Do you feel like this is a fresh start for Daventry?
02:16Well, I think it's a continuation of a great start.
