00:00Ryan and Daisy.
00:04Daisy, the diesel railcar, thinks of herself as thoroughly modern and bang up-to-date.
00:13And being a railcar, Daisy can carry passengers without having to pull any coaches at all.
00:24Daisy shares the branch line between Arlsborough and Harwick with a tank engine called Ryan.
00:36Although they work on the same line, they are quite different.
00:42While Daisy takes all the passengers, Ryan pulls trucks.
00:48Daisy doesn't like pulling trucks.
00:52She likes to do just what work she chooses.
00:56And no more!
01:02One day, early in the morning, Ryan was ready for work.
01:07But Daisy had something else in mind.
01:10Ready to go?
01:12Oh, I don't think so, Ryan.
01:17Early mornings are bad for my swerves.
01:21Hmm, I'll just have ten minutes more.
01:25Oh!
01:31The Fat Controller was waiting at Arlsborough West with some good news.
01:36Ryan, you and Daisy have proved yourselves really useful.
01:41So, I want to give you both some extra duties.
01:45I'd like you to help Toby deliver trucks from the quarry to Harwick.
01:50Yes, sir.
01:51And, as for Daisy...
01:53Where is Daisy?
01:55Er, if you have a message, sir, I can pass it on.
01:59Oh, not just a message, it's this mail truck.
02:03Starting tomorrow, Daisy will pick up the mail from Arlsborough before she starts her passenger run.
02:09And, now Summer's here, I also want her to work later into the evening.
02:15Can you remember to tell her all that, Ryan?
02:17Yes, sir. No problem, sir.
02:26Oh, dear, Ryan!
02:29Poor you! Putting that elsey!
02:34But this is your mail truck.
02:36You're to pick up the mail from Arlsborough West first thing tomorrow and work later into the evening.
02:42But I'm a diesel rail car.
02:44You would make a much better job of it, Ryan.
02:48I can't pull a mail truck. It's fit as orders.
02:51But the Fat Controller says...
02:53Yes, you look great pulling the mail truck. Really useful.
03:00Well, when you put it like that...
03:04Thanks, Daisy.
03:11The following day, Ryan set off early to pick up the mail.
03:17But all the extra duties made him late to meet Toby.
03:21Sorry I'm late.
03:22That's alright, Ryan. Don't worry. But try to be on time tomorrow.
03:29Later on, Ryan saw Daisy.
03:32Where are you going?
03:34Back to the shed. I'm exhausted.
03:37But you're supposed to work late.
03:39Oh, Ryan, will you do that? Please?
03:44All this extra work is bad for my swerves.
03:49But you're a diesel rail car. I'm just a tank engine.
03:54You could take those coaches. You'd be doing me a huge favour.
04:00And you'd be really useful.
04:03You're right.
04:15The Fat Controller was surprised to see Ryan pulling passenger coaches.
04:19Ryan? What are you doing here?
04:23Just helping out, sir.
04:25Well, Ryan...
04:29You are making yourself really useful.
04:33But I was rather hoping to see Daisy.
04:36She's been doing such a good job with her passengers that I want to extend her run down to Knapford.
04:42I could tell her that for you, sir.
04:44Thank you, Ryan. I'd tell her myself, but as you can see, I'm a very busy man.
04:53No!
04:56That night, when Ryan returned to the shed, Daisy was already asleep.
05:10And she was still asleep the next morning, when Ryan set off to collect the mail.
05:17Ryan didn't like to wake her. He knew that early mornings were bad for her swerves.
05:27Morning, everyone!
05:29But now Ryan had a lot to do.
05:32As well as his own work and extra duties, he also had to do all of Daisy's extra jobs.
05:41Go ahead, couple me up.
05:47Phew!
05:59With the passenger coaches behind him and Daisy's mail truck in front, Ryan couldn't see where he was going.
06:11Look out! Sorry!
06:17And after Ryan had delivered the mail, he saw a clock and realised he was late to meet Toby again.
06:25Oh, dear!
06:26He hurried to the quarry as quickly as he could and he took all his passengers too.
06:39Whoa! Hold on there! Stop! You can't disembark here! You need hard hats!
06:45Poor Ryan felt very silly indeed.
06:49The Fat Controller was not happy with...
06:52Daisy! You didn't do the run down to Knapford like I asked you to!
06:57Oh! I didn't know anything about that, sir!
07:01I saw Ryan pulling passenger coaches yesterday and with your mail truck this morning.
07:07He seems to be doing all your extra jobs.
07:10Ryan offered to help. He wanted to be really useful.
07:16Ryan and Daisy, you were given this branch line to work on together. You should be helping each other.
07:25It's good to help a friend, Ryan, but your friends should help you too.
07:32Sorry, Ryan. I've not been a very good friend.
07:37No, you haven't. And now, Daisy, since you don't like pulling the mail truck, you can do something else.
07:44Tomorrow, you can have all of Ryan's extra duties.
07:49But what about my springs and my swerves?
07:54Hmm.
07:55Okay, sir. I can do that. For a friend.
08:01Daisy the Diesel Railcar likes to do just what work she chooses and no more.
08:09Right then. Off I go to pick up your trucks.
08:14Okay. Thanks, Daisy.
08:17And then... to the quarry.
08:21Have a good day, then.
08:23You're a good friend, Daisy!
08:27I know I am, Ryan. And so are you.
