16:55When I spoke to Hayden earlier, I talked to him about championship management, and he
16:59had a very interesting point.
17:01He made the observation that when he won smx there last year in 2023, that came down to
17:06the wire.
17:07So he's had to fight all the way to the very end, which is very much his style, his personality
17:12to always be fighting for those wins.
17:14So he said this whole idea of managing a championship is an entirely new thing for me.
17:20Maybe it's starting already.
17:22Maybe he doesn't know what he has for the second motor.
17:24Ricky, obviously we can't read their minds, but it's a new experience for him.
17:28Yeah, I definitely, definitely can't read his mind, and that's the hard part of knowing
17:32right now what's going on.
17:34But also some days you don't feel as good as you may on certain other weekends, and
17:40there's nothing wrong with that.
17:42But at the end of the day, there's still a lot of racing left, and he does his best work.
17:45Well, he does his best work all the time, but it seems like this season he's been really,
17:51really strong.
17:52The strongest parts are at the end of the race, which if you want to be strong for sure,
17:57it's going to be at the end.
17:58So a lot of racing left here, and I'm happy with it.

21:15He was against the ropes last race at southwick after crashing out of the lead.

21:27Another thing, too, for people tuned in today and watching this race, as the race gets later
21:34on and there's like ten minutes left, what happens is if you're in great shape, you're
21:41able to maintain, say, let's just say a 2.0, a 2.10 right now where the other riders are
21:47dropping off more and more and more.
21:49So the gaps that a guy like Hayden Deegan is closing in on the guys in front of him
21:54are going to be bigger.
21:55So you think, oh, there's no way he can catch and bridge those gaps, but when the riders
22:01are falling back and, again, the gaps are bigger, that's how he's able to chew up so
22:07much time.
22:14I've got to wonder, do you think he knows the overall situation?
22:18He's not making strides towards Shimoda or Hymus.
22:21Doesn't need to for the overall.
22:22Do you think he's playing the game right now?
22:25It's, you know, again, I'm not in his head, but, I mean, he knows situations, and if he's
22:32playing just for the overall, then, yeah, maybe he's happy with where he is, and that's
22:38good.

23:05But now he was able to double up over that little tabletop double coming out of that
23:12left hander to make the pass beforehand.
23:15So Deegan's up one more position.
23:17That will be sixth, and I think he'd still be off the overall podium today for the first
23:23time this year.
23:24He's been first or second in every moto until now.
23:27Wow, Deegan had feet off the pegs, the outside foot.
23:32How did he maneuver through there?
23:34Right.
23:35Doesn't always have to be pretty.
23:39Hey, as long as it delivers, that's right, that's all that matters.
23:57And we watch Hymus here in the lead, looking to deliver the second moto win of his career.
24:04Got one at thunder valley.
24:06Now we are hearing news on Hymus that he actually was penalized in the first moto for jumping
24:13with the red cross flag.
24:15Now they tend to not penalize positions for that, but he has been penalized five championship
24:20points and two positions in the event payout, the purse for that.
24:24That's in moto one.
24:25And why that's big is because Hymus is second in the championship, and it is a close duel
24:31for second team.
24:32So five points looms very large.
24:34He's starting to look over.
24:35I caught him looking over his left shoulder probably to see where his teammate Joe Shimoda
24:39is.
24:40And this is that part of the race where you really have to rely on your fitness to get
24:45you to that finish line with a five-second gap.
24:50And he's getting into lappers.
24:51Probably going to be a sense of urgency here.
24:54He's got to stick with it by another two laps before that white flag comes out.
24:58Look at the lap times there, Ricky.
25:00Shimoda two seconds quicker than Hymus last time around, J.T.
25:04And for chance Hymus he really needs to lock in right here.
25:07He's turned slower lap times the last three laps in a row and Shimoda starting to pick
25:11up the pace here.
25:12And Joe is a rider that feeds off momentum just like we saw in the second moto at southwick.
25:17He gets stronger.
25:18He starts to gain confidence and he can close that gap down.
25:21The next couple of laps just like Ricky mentioned are incredibly important for Hymus to maintain
25:25this gap.
25:26Hymus is going to need some help from these lappers.
25:30That's for sure because Joe is putting it down right now.
25:34Again, two seconds faster that last lap for Joe.
25:37And that's what I was talking about how at the end of the race those time gaps they chew
25:42into the lead way more and you make up more time late in the race like this especially
25:48if the competitor isn't as in good of shape.
25:52And we'll see how strong Hymus is down the stretch.
25:55Again, he wasn't able to hold that pace all the way to the end of moto one.

29:28And again, six rounds into the pro motocross championship, this is no fluke, ladies and
29:34gentlemen.
29:35He's, like, contending for most improved, that's for sure.

29:42He does have Shimoda lurking back there.
29:44Now they all have to roll this jump after that huge crash on the previous lap.
29:48Again, Hymus is looking at a penalty for moto 1.
29:51It affects his championship points and the purse money he'll earn today.
29:55It does not impact the actual overall result.
29:59So the fourth in moto 1 will hold, and that's why the 4.1 will be enough for him to win
30:04the overall if he can hang on to the end.
30:07But Shimoda is digging.
30:09If Shimoda gets around Hymus, I think master pool would still get the overall win.

31:49Traffic has been exceptionally tough today.
31:51The ruts are pretty deep as well so it's hard for those guys to move around once they
