00:00Following the Finance Department, NEDA also announced its position regarding the suspension of the Pogo operation in the country.
00:07The government may lose a billion pesos, but the benefits will be greater.
00:14Ivan Mayrina is in the news.
00:19Despite the calls to ban the Pogo operations in the country, the President still hasn't issued an official position on the issue.
00:27Yesterday, Finance Secretary Ralph Recto said that he is ready to recommend the Pogo ban to the President
00:32among those who are issuing evidence of illegal activities being carried out, along with the ongoing operation of these operations.
00:38NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balizacan reiterated the position that the banning of the Pogo operations can continue.
00:44This is even though the PAN-CORP said that they will lose up to 20 billion pesos if the Pogo operations are still banned.
00:58Particularly, the social costs of Pogos are quite high.
01:04And also, we are trying to position our country as a legitimate place for business where,
01:12you know, we are trying to attract investors to come, tourists to come.
01:18And so, the least that we want is to have a reputation that the criminals are here.
01:27This has not yet been discussed in the Cabinet, according to Balizacan.
01:30But if this happens, it can be resolved in other ways.
01:35In a way that is more in the direction of a government that can lead and create jobs.
01:41If we expand the businesses, then we generate more revenues from income taxes, corporate taxes, from all kinds of, you know.
01:52If we import some equipment, we also derive tariff revenues there.
01:59So, if you put all these together, they should be more than what, you know, you lost in the Pogo.
02:07The Department of Labor and Employment is currently preparing to welcome 22,000 Pogo workers who may lose their jobs if the Pogo operations are still banned.
02:17Anticipating that there might be some kind of decision, then workers would have the option to look at what is available to them in terms of employment, job facilitation, and also livelihood program.
02:31For GMA Integrated News, Ivan Mayrena, for Tutok, 24 hours.
