00:20I am Katrina Kalugay Alvaira, a mom of two beautiful boys,
00:25a lawyer and a proud owner of the brand that sells postpartum shapewear.
00:29To help moms rediscover their love for their body, guilt-free.
00:38While I'm handling my business right now, I am a trial lawyer.
00:41I handle or I cater to indigent clients.
00:45I am a working mom, a full-time mom, and a businesswoman.
00:49So it's very hard to fill all those roles.
00:53But then, we can do it, of course.
00:55As a first-time mom, when I gave birth in 2021 to my son, Franco,
01:00it started because I realized that self-care and self-love is easily lost in motherhood.
01:07I was looking for products that would make me feel good about myself.
01:10And in the market, the choices are very limited.
01:15What I did was I tried to develop a postpartum shapewear that can be worn by moms,
01:19both CS and normal delivery, that would make them feel good about themselves.
01:25I made sure that it is fit for Filipino moms.
01:28And I also made sure that it is at par with foreign brands.
01:32It is very affordable.
01:34Affordable meaning, there is no mom guilt when you buy it.
01:37You won't feel like,
01:39why am I putting too much of myself, my son?
01:42You know, I'm not tending to the needs of my kids first.
01:45I made sure that it is something that would make mothers feel good about themselves after giving birth.
01:51Actually, when I started it,
01:53I didn't think of it as a business.
01:54I started it because I wanted to impart to other people
01:58my journey as a first-time mother
02:00and what I felt that time is needed by other moms like me.
02:03One challenge is that how do you get your product into the market?
02:07Because even if your product is good,
02:09you have to think about how to share it with other people through social media.
02:14The impact of social media right now is very big.
02:18that most, if not all of the sellers or the stores are going online.
02:25More than being a business, it opened up to many opportunities.
02:29Before, I just felt like I could sell it online.
02:32Someone just complimented me and that's it.
02:34Now, there are people who message that we are here at your booth, we supported you.
02:37Because one of the purpose of the shapewear is that
02:41from day zero, right after giving birth,
02:44you can wear it so you can move right away.
02:46So we received a lot of messages that thank you for your product
02:49because I was able to take care of my kid or my baby immediately.
02:54So those things are very helpful to us.
02:57That's why it's fun because you get to know more people,
03:00you get to engage different moms,
03:02and you can really see that they didn't just buy it,
03:06they loved the product and you know that they were helped
03:09during that phase of their motherhood.
03:11To those who want to start a business,
03:12of course, profit is very basic.
03:16But aside from profit, one thing that's very important is that
03:18you should know your market and you should know the whys of your business.
03:22Why did I start the business?
03:25What is the purpose of what I sell or what is my product?
03:29There will be ups and downs in a business,
03:31but if you know your why or you know your direction,
03:34it will keep you going.
03:35It's not just tiring to know why you started the business in the first place.
03:42In business, profit or income is not the only thing that's important.
03:46What's most important is that your product can help and change other people.
