Kulang tatlong linggo na lang bago magbukas ang panibagong school year kaya ang GMA Kapuso Foundation, nagsimula na ring suyurin ang iba't ibang probinsya para sa Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan Project. Isa sa unang nahandugan ng school supplies -- mga bata mula sa Davao Oriental.

00:09That's why the GMI Kapuso Foundation has already started a tour of different provinces

00:15for our project, Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan.

00:20One of the first school supplies was given to the children from Davao, Oriental.

00:29Every upcoming school year, most students are excited to buy new school supplies.

00:37But for the incoming Grade 1 student, Shyam,

00:40the bag that his neighbor gave him was enough, even if it's broken and has a hole in it.

00:47Because of the heavy rain in January,

00:51which caused flooding and landslides in their area in Taragona, Davao, Oriental,

00:58their house was destroyed.

01:01Their belongings, including his bag and notebook, were also flooded.

01:06My children's belongings, we don't have anything left.

01:10It's really painful.

01:11It's important for the children to go to school.

01:14But I can't do anything.

01:16I can't exchange school supplies for my children.

01:22In Putik, Lukatan Integrated School, where Shyam is studying,

01:27there are a lot of school supplies that haven't been used yet.

01:31Our activity center is all made of putik, thick putik.

01:37Other students will say that there's no paper, no pencil.

01:41As a help, Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan Project of the GMA Kapuso Foundation started again.

01:50We went to the remote schools in the town of Taragona

01:54to deliver complete school supplies to Kinder and Grade 1 students.

01:59Other families are still waking up from the calamity.
