Transcript
00:00The heat advisory in New York City continues well into the evening.
00:04Ali, I'm afraid to even ask, how are you feeling out there?
00:10Ari, I will say the last few minutes there's been a slight breeze that has come through.
00:14It's probably the only breeze that I've felt over the last few hours that I've been here.
00:18But we're live from Times Square.
00:20It's beautiful here.
00:21People are lively.
00:22They certainly are awake.
00:23But I've been asking them, I said, what's your New York state of mind today?
00:27And they say there's no state of mind other than it's hot.
00:31That is the story of the day.
00:32It is hot.
00:33It is humid.
00:34And yes, we are going into that second heat wave across New York City and the surrounding
00:38region.
00:39It was Monday when we hit the hottest temperature on record so far this year here in New York
00:45City.
00:46Now, residents and even tourists across the region have experienced temperatures well
00:50above 90 degrees, as this heat advisory remains in effect for most of the New York City area
00:55through later this evening.
00:57Not only is this region being hit with the heat and humidity, but they're adding air
01:01quality issues to the list, too, making air unhealthy for sensitive groups.
01:06Now, all morning long, I've been speaking to residents and tourists.
01:09I even caught up with a father and daughter duo from Charlotte, North Carolina, checking
01:14out Times Square for the first time.
01:16And they say it's hot.
01:18What do you think, Gwyneth?
01:19Hot?
01:20Yes, and very hot.
01:21That's the biggest thing is the humidity is tremendous.
01:24We were surprised coming in here yesterday.
01:26We thought, it's just as hot here as it is in Charlotte.
01:28When we left Charlotte yesterday, it feels just as hot here.
01:31We're walking in, getting some air, looking at things.
01:34A lot of gift shops, more so than normal.
01:40Yeah, I've been checking out the gift shops, too.
01:42Don't you worry.
01:43Starbucks also.
01:44That's been a help.
01:45Now, avoid being in the heat, especially for long periods of time.
01:48Limit the amount you have to be outdoors and take frequent breaks.
01:51Here in New York City, most city pools now have extended hours for families to stay
01:55refreshed.
01:56And local officials are reminding folks to utilize splash pads or even cooling centers.
02:01Now, here's the thing.
02:02We've now crossed over 80 degrees here in New York City this morning.
02:05Real feel, though, we're already pushing 90, I would say.
02:08It is hot here in the city.
02:10And that heat advisory is going to remain in effect until about 8 o'clock this evening.
02:14But Ari, the story is, it's hot.
02:17And that's it.
02:18That's all I got for you.
02:19Yeah, I mean, Ali, I love hearing your voice.
02:21But I also love hearing some of the people you've interviewed and them comparing it to
02:24where they're from and that New York City is feeling at times even hotter than some
02:28of their hometowns.
02:29We appreciate you being alive out there.
02:31Go take a rest and some air conditioning.
02:32Stay hydrated.
02:33And we appreciate your report this morning.
