Wheeler is the odds-on favorite but is dealing with a back injury, can bettors trust him?
Transcript
00:00And Wheeler currently plus 120 on BetMGM, Chris Sale right behind them, plus 125.
00:06Ranger Suarez, who's having an incredible start, has kind of started to regress just a little bit.
00:12Tyler Glasnow obviously is sideline with the Dodgers, so there's a lot going on right now
00:17in this market. As we're heading into the all-star break with the current odds as you
00:22look at NL Cy Young, what stands out to you? Yeah, I think it's important to start with,
00:27you know, how much do we, how much stock do we put into what happened with Zach Wheeler
00:32yesterday? So he apparently injured his back about a month ago. He like landed on the mound in a
00:40like a bizarre way, like I didn't see the video clip or whatever, but it was referenced in a
00:44couple of the stories that I read. So it's kind of like here or there been bothering him a little
00:47bit. And then in the fifth inning of last night's game against the Dodgers, he left with back
00:53tightness, said he hopes to make his next start. But then what's, what is the, what's the quote
00:57from this one story? It's a, it's quote, bothered me here and there a little bit. Oh, well, you're
01:04the favorite for an award, so probably important to know that now going forward. Just gets a little
01:08more tenuous, right? You're a little more like, yeah, maybe. I mean, it's now happening at a good
01:13time, I guess. All-star break coming up next week, so a little more time off for some of these
01:17pitchers. Like maybe he makes his next start. Even if he misses one start, he gets like 13 days off
01:22before he would have to pitch next weekend. So maybe happening at a good time, but definitely
01:28kind of calls into question whether you would ever click his name at this kind of a price.
01:34Probably be much more likely to click for sale or somebody else. I think we're, we're not there yet,
01:38but we're getting pretty close, Peach, to a, to a how many pitchers do we feel like are on the list
01:43of that can really win? And, you know, even some of the surprises, do we think that's going to hold
01:50up, right? Do we think like some of those pitch? So, you know, even if you look at the odds board
01:54right now, the odds board for saying is always going to really strongly reflect, reflect pedigree,
01:59like who has been really good before, or who has like a ton of high, like schemes is on this list
02:04for that reason. But everybody else, it's like, have we seen them do something like this before?
02:09And the answer for a lot of them is yes. Like Wheeler, yes. Sale, yes. Logan Webb, yes. Glasnow,
02:15yes. You know, it's like, it's, and yet like the actual stats for the pitchers don't necessarily
02:19reflect that right now. So there's always this interesting mix of what we think you're going to
02:23do, but then what you've actually done. And even at this point, I would still always put most stock
02:29into, all right, who's actually had like 200 innings before of like really high quality pitching
02:34that could actually go for most of the season. That's Sale and Wheeler for sure. And then the
02:38next, the next like realistic name you would probably say is Logan Webb, which I know is
02:43somebody that Jake and I don't like very much anymore because he cost us money last year
02:46when we bet him. I mean, if it's like, Hey, if it's not Wheeler or Sale, who's your next click
02:51after that? Probably Logan Webb, just because of the price. Although his price has been dropping
02:56a little bit recently.
