That plus a slight dip in the value of his stock was enough to knock him down three spots among the world’s richest to No. 10 as of July 1. 00:00Today on Forbes, the top 10 richest people in the world, July 2024.
00:08Legendary investor Warren Buffett disclosed in June that he gave away Berkshire Hathaway
00:12shares worth some $5.3 billion.
00:16That, plus a slight dip in the value of his stock, was enough to knock him down three
00:21spots among the world's richest to number 10 as of July 1st.
00:25That's the lowest Buffett, the most generous person on the planet in absolute dollar terms,
00:30has ranked in years.
00:32He is one of just two people among the top 10 richest to fall in the ranks this month.
00:38French luxury goods tycoon Bernard Arnault, who had been the world's wealthiest person
00:42from February through late May, slips to number 3 as shares of his LVMH group fell for the
00:48second month in a row.
00:50Meanwhile, Tesla's Elon Musk holds on to the top spot, thanks to a very good June.
00:57The electric car maker's shareholders voted in favor of Musk keeping nearly $50 billion
01:02of performance-based stock options.
01:05While Forbes will continue to discount the Tesla options from the pay package by 50%
01:10until he receives those options, a lengthy appeal process is expected.
01:14His fortune is still up by $11.1 billion since June 1st, and nearly $19 billion in the past
01:20two months.
01:22His net worth will likely get a boost soon from SpaceX, which is reportedly set to sell
01:27shares in a tender offer, valuing the company at $210 billion, up from $180 billion last
01:34December.
01:35Musk owns an estimated 42% stake.
01:39Jeff Bezos, whose fortune is up $15.5 billion in the last month, moves up to number 2 as
01:46Amazon's market capitalization surpassed $2 trillion for the first time in late June.
01:53The biggest gainer in June was Larry Ellison, whose fortune rose by $26.8 billion as shares
01:59of Oracle soared to all-time highs.
02:03Forbes has been keeping track of the world's billionaires since 1987.
02:07In April, we found 2,781 of them for our annual list.
02:12Here are the 10 richest people on Earth as of July 1st, 2024 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time.
02:18Keep in mind, stock prices fluctuate routinely, so these net worths may change on a daily
02:23basis.
02:24Forbes tracks the daily changes on our real-time list of billionaires.
02:28The richest person in the world is Elon Musk, whose net worth is $221.4 billion.
02:36At number 2 is Jeff Bezos, whose net worth is $210.2 billion.
02:42At number 3 is Bernard Arnault at $193.7 billion.
02:48At number 4 is Mark Zuckerberg, who is worth $176.8 billion.
02:54During the month of June, his fortune rose by $13 billion as Metastock climbed 8%.
03:01At number 5 is Larry Ellison, who is worth $173 billion.
03:07Ellison co-founded software firm Oracle in 1977 and ran it as CEO until 2014.
03:14He now serves as chairman and chief technology officer of the company.
03:18And again, even though his net worth rose by $26.8 billion in June, more than anyone
03:23else in the top 10, it wasn't enough to move up in the ranks.
03:28At number 6 is Google co-founder Larry Page, who is worth $150.3 billion.
03:35In June, Page's fortune rose by $7.4 billion as Alphabet shares advanced.
03:42At number 7 is Google's other co-founder Sergey Brin, who is worth $143.9 billion.
03:49Brin's fortune increased by $7 billion in June 2024, and he has now moved up one spot
03:55in the ranks.
03:57At number 8 is Bill Gates, who is worth $133.4 billion.
04:03Gates' fortune rose by $4 billion during June, enough to move up to number 8.
04:08Largely due to the $59 billion he has donated to the Gates Foundation, including a $20 billion
04:13gift in July 2022, he was overtaken as the world's richest person in 2018 by Jeff Bezos.
04:21At number 9 is Steve Ballmer, who is worth $130.7 billion.
04:27Ballmer's fortune rose by an estimated $7.5 billion in the past month amid an increase
04:32in the price of Microsoft stock.
04:35And rounding out the list at number 10, and the lowest he's ranked in years, is Warren
04:39Buffett, who is worth $128.4 billion.
04:45Together, the world's top 10 richest are worth a combined $1.66 trillion, about $76
04:51billion more than a month ago.
