Oxnard position group analysis: Cowboys quarterbacks
We're counting down the days to our annual trip to Oxnard for Cowboys training camp with a deep dive into each position group. Let's start with the quarterbacks, and the show debates if this is the most interesting group on the team, as well as who'd start if Dak Prescott was to miss significant time.

00:21So with quarterbacks, one of the things that I was looking at yesterday, I wanted to see,
00:25okay, what exactly has been the investment?
00:27And I think you could make an argument that out of contending teams, there's nobody who's
00:32invested less in terms of initial capital into their quarterback position and nobody
00:40who's invested more financially after the fact.
00:44Because the initial investment, the Cowboys, their three quarterbacks, which I think we
00:48all believe in a spot start, Cooper Rush and Trey Lance could probably win a game for you
00:53in a spot start.
00:54We know Cooper Rush.
00:55We know Cooper Rush.
00:56And Trey Lance, I would imagine you could probably create a, an atmosphere that allowed
01:02for him to bust drive for you at the very least.
01:05And they've gotten that.
01:06They've got three capable quarterbacks potentially by investing a 2016 fourth in what they used
01:10on DAC, a 2024 third, what they traded for Trey Lance and an undrafted pick in a Cooper
01:16Rush.
01:17Their cumulative cap hit this year.
01:19Those three players, that quarterback room is 24.9% of the Cowboys cap this year.

01:27That's one quarter of the cap.
01:28The quarterback room.
01:29And that is running back room.
01:30Yeah, it used to be.
01:31That is by far the highest percentage in the NFL this year, far and away because they've
01:35let Dax contract get to this ballooned point million dollar.
01:38They've got another 5 million on Trey Lance Dax cap number right now is $55,455,000 together.
01:45The quarterback room is 63 million in cap space that it's taken up.
01:51So they have, they have ballooned this cap of the group.
01:54When you look at position battles, as much as people would want a, a Trey Lance opportunity
02:00here, especially if DAC isn't locked in long-term, none of these guys are locked in long-term.
02:03You don't have any of them under contract after this year.
02:06I don't think we're heading into Oxnard with a single battle on the depth chart.
