Transcript
00:00Good ones for me here, but what is it like having your family come into town for it?
00:05I know you shared kind of an emotional exchange with your dad on the phone when you told him you were an All-Star.
00:09Yeah, I mean, seeing him in person was the real eye-opener, you know, like seeing my dad and my mom here.
00:16Like, this is one of the stadiums they've always wanted to visit and they just, it's like a special moment for them
00:22because now they get to call him for an All-Star and so it's my first All-Star.
00:26So seeing them made me tear up a little bit, so it was a good one.
00:30Good to be there.
00:32And is there anyone you asked for advice ahead of coming down here for the weekend or you just want to experience it all?
00:38Is there any former All-Stars you asked for advice?
00:40No, honestly, it kind of snuck up so quickly and we were playing the Yankees at the time,
00:45so we had to focus on playing them and just kind of push it to the side.
00:52But I'm just kind of enjoying it.
00:55I was hoping Rafi would be here to, you know, hold my hand.
00:57I could follow him around holding his hand.
00:59But we've got a lot of older guys here that I'll hopefully attach to and get to know and they can help me out.
01:05Anyone in particular you're especially looking forward to meeting?
01:09I don't know.
01:11I mean, I'm excited to talk to all of them.
01:13Probably Judge because, you know, he's doing such a great job at this game
01:17and he's like a really good guy to meet and talk to, so he'd be a good one to talk to.
01:21Thanks, Jordan.
01:22Thank you.
01:23Congrats again.
01:24Does it feel like you thought it would as you sit here?
01:28It feels more calm than I thought it was going to be.
01:31I thought it was going to be more overwhelming than it is.
01:34But, yeah, it's been good so far, you know, like being at the hotel,
01:39like seeing all the guys around eating breakfast and stuff like that.
01:42It's been a real good experience.
01:43When did this come on your radar?
01:45I know that we asked about it, but you're sort of like a day by day by day.
01:50When did this get on your radar?
01:54Probably when AC announced it in New York.
01:56Like, I was just trying not to think about it because I feel like,
02:01like for me personally, I feel like when I think about stuff like that,
02:04I put more pressure on myself than I need to be.
02:07And I was already doing that and I wasn't even thinking about it.
02:09So, but it didn't really hit me until like AC like announced it
02:14because, you know, I'm already hard on myself.
02:16So I was already doubting myself like, oh, like I'm not going to get it.
02:20Like, I'll just work harder next year to get it.
02:22It's a good moment and I'm proud of myself for doing it.
02:26So you really didn't think?
02:27I mean, we were asking about it in the weeks leading up to it, obviously.
02:30No?
02:31No.
02:32Honestly, I didn't think about it as much as I thought I was going to.
02:34Like, I thought I was going to, but I was just so focused on like playing
02:39and hanging out with the guys that I just honestly didn't really think about it.
02:43Just kind of pushed it to the side.
02:47Yeah, what do you say?
02:49I'm from the disability channel.
02:50I'm going to ask you a couple of questions.
02:51I mean, what are your thoughts, the excitement?
02:53I mean, I know you're not in awe, you play this game every day,
02:55but what is this experience like for you?
02:58So far, it's been a great experience.
03:00I mean, seeing all these guys walking around and hanging out, it's been super fun.
03:03You know, I mean, everybody's been super nice, like very welcoming.
03:06Like, I know we like get this thing where we don't like each other during the season,
03:10but like getting to talk to them in person, like on the same team, it's been super fun.
03:14Are you excited to see some of these guys?
03:16Is there like a guy you grew up watching that you want to talk to a little bit?
03:20I mean, a guy I grew up talking or watching was Dustin Pedroia,
03:23and I've been able to meet him a couple of times.
03:25So, but I'm just excited to watch all these guys.
03:28Honestly, I mean, these guys are studs and they're all here for a reason.
03:31There's multiple guys who have been here before,
03:33so I'll probably pick their brains a little bit if they get some info.
03:36And with interleague, I mean, it's not that big of a deal.
03:38You will face skiing possibly,
03:40but are your thoughts about some of the big pitchers that are here?
03:44Yeah, I mean, I was looking at the pitchers
03:46and I was just hoping I wouldn't get stale again
03:48because he's already embarrassed me when we were in Atlanta.
03:50So, I'm looking forward to seeing him again.
03:52You know, I miss him as a teammate and I can't wait to see him.
03:57Jaren, Tommy with MLB Network Social.
03:59Congrats on all the success this year.
04:01Vlad is not in the Home Run Derby,
04:03so I'm curious who is your pick for the Derby this year?
04:06It's Gunnar, Alec Bone, Bobby Witt, Alonzo, Adolis, Tay Oscar, and Jay Rand.
04:11Oh, Gunnar.
04:13Yeah.
04:14When you think of the most iconic baseball play of all time, what do you think of?
04:18Play or player?
04:19Iconic play.
04:24Does it have to be in MLB?
04:25Yes.
04:28Probably Kevin Pillar when he ran up the wall in Toronto and caught the ball.
04:33He didn't grab it like anybody else.
04:35He kind of ran up it and jumped off it and caught it.
04:38And I was able to be a teammate of his,
04:40which is also a super cool thing to do.
04:42That's a good one.
04:43What's your favorite ballpark to play as a visitor?
04:45Toronto.
04:48You've gotten this a little bit, but which player are you most looking forward to playing with here?
04:55To play with?
04:56Probably Judge.
04:57I just want to watch him with the ball so far.
04:59In the sand next to him, get a picture hopefully.
05:02And what's your favorite pregame meal?
05:05Oof.
05:08Probably a Nutella sandwich with peanut butter.
05:13Thank you.
05:14Jeremy, go back to spring training and how you take day by day.
05:18You're writing stuff down and everything.
05:21I mean, this has been a process for you.
05:23Even in the offseason where there's trade rumors and everything else,
05:27but to land where you have, you must be really, really proud.
05:30It's sort of your process, I guess, right?
05:33Yeah, I'm just proud of myself for keeping it simple.
05:37I know that I can make things bigger than they need to be.
05:40That's been a problem for me in the past.
05:42I'm just happy I was able to keep my head down and just work
05:46because that's kind of been my thing.
05:48Just kind of keep my head down and don't be this big attention person
05:53and just work has kind of been my thing.
05:57Have you gotten better at that?
06:01We talked about you writing stuff down after every day,
06:04the good, what you want to work on and everything.
06:07Has that process really helped you?
06:09Yeah, I've actually learned a couple new things.
06:12It's like when my brain's going a million miles an hour after the game,
06:17I usually do a little coloring book, which kind of helps slow me down.
06:21But then when my brain only has a couple things going into it,
06:25I'll write that down because I learned that when my brain's going too much,
06:29I just write down a bunch of gibberish.
06:31Whereas when I can color, it kind of keeps it simple and relaxes me.
06:36How did you come across that? Did someone suggest it to you?
06:40No, I just was looking up, just doing some research on stuff that people do
06:47to help clear their mind and not create anxiety more than they need to be.
06:53That was a big one.
06:55At first, I was like, I'm not going to color, whatever.
06:58And then I started doing it, and I was like, I kind of like this.
07:00I have to ask, so what kind of coloring? Is it like a kid's coloring book?
07:04No, so it's like a cuss word coloring book.
07:09So it's got cuss words in it.
07:11I'm not going to say the cuss words, but then you can color in the cuss words,
07:15so it's kind of funny.
07:16I have no idea where you get that.
07:19Amazon.
07:20Amazon? So you're just coloring in the letters?
07:23Yeah, I mean, it's like a legit coloring book.
07:26Flowers, you know, say a bad word in the middle, and you color it.
07:29All right.
07:31It helps also that you guys are doing well, right?
07:34I mean, that clears the mind, I would imagine.
07:39Yeah, you'd think, but sometimes when you're going good,
07:44like me personally, if I'm doing good, I sometimes think negative,
07:48like, all right, this is going to end soon.
07:52So I kind of beat myself up doing that, like, oh, this won't last forever.
07:56I kind of beat myself up.
07:58I try not to ride the wave too high and too low.
08:01I try to just stay in the middle because I feel like it's a really strong
08:05and emotional roller coaster if you ride the high super high
08:08and you ride the low super low.
08:10Have you been able to enjoy it?
08:14I know you're enjoying this is cool, right,
08:16but enjoy what's going on with the team and everything.
08:19Yeah, absolutely.
08:21Getting to be with my teammates every day is the highlight of my day.
08:24I can't wait to get to the field and see the boys.
08:27That's what makes me so happy is getting to come to see the guys every day
08:32because we've got such a great group.
08:35I'm very thankful that it's a good group that I'm excited to see every single day.
08:43I think internally you thought you guys were being really good.
08:47Are you even better than you thought you would be as a group?
08:51I always thought we were going to be good.
08:54I never had a doubt.
08:56I think we're just – it's hard to put into perspective because I was never like,
09:02oh, we're going to be super great.
09:04I just knew we were going to be good.
09:06I just kept it simple.
09:07I think we're going to be really good because I saw what we saw in spring.
09:11I knew what we had, and I think we're doing a great job as a team.
09:16People are now jumping in, though, and be like, hey, they're good.
09:20Right?
09:21Yeah.
09:22I mean, let people talk.
09:24I mean, we all know that people love us one day and then they hate us the next day.
09:28So, it's baseball.
09:30It happens.
09:31So, I think we're just going to keep doing our thing and keep having fun.
09:34And just the last thing is that as you sit here right now,
09:38all the things that you're doing, like you said, this has been a process for you.
09:43Do you feel like you have a much better grasp on living your life,
09:49living the life of a Major League Baseball player than ever before?
09:53Yeah.
09:54Yeah, I think I'm handling things a lot better.
09:59I know some things still get to me, but that's just part of it.
10:03I'm still learning to do it, and I have great teammates around me that help me out.
10:08I've got guys like Dom, Rob Refsnyder, Giolito, Liam,
10:14all these older guys that can help me manage whenever I have questions.
10:19I'm not afraid to go and ask them for help.
10:22Thank you.
10:23Speaking of spring, you were one of the first visiting players to be on this very field this year.
10:28Did you visualize this moment?
10:30No, I don't think I knew where the All-Star was at that moment.
10:34So I wasn't paying that much attention to it.
10:38How does it feel to have this moment?
10:41It feels good.
10:44It's a little bit of a shock because, you know, just for me personally,
10:48I'd never be like, yeah, I'm going to be an All-Star this year.
10:51I'm just kind of like, all right, I'm just going to work hard.
10:54Honestly, it wasn't even a thought in my mind that I would be here right now.
10:58I just wanted to be that guy that worked hard and played hard every single day.
11:03And it just happened to work out for me.
11:06Where did you get the story throwback?
11:08I can't give away my secrets.
11:10That was a good one, though, right?
11:12That was pretty impressive.
11:15Is he here?
11:18No, I know he's rehabbing in L.A., in California, and I think he was in Texas.
11:25I'm not sure, but I heard that he was going to meet us in L.A.,
11:29so that would be awesome if he actually came to L.A.
11:34You wear that story shirt every day, right?
11:39Yep, every day.
11:40Among, you know, one of two.
11:42How much has Trevor meant to you guys this season, even though he has time?
11:49I mean, he's the kind of guy you look up to.
11:51I mean, that guy, he's done it all.
11:53You know, he's been an All-Star.
11:55He's won a Silver Slugger.
11:57He's been hurt, and he's came back and been really good,
12:00and he's gotten hurt and came back again.
12:03He's just an overall great role model to look up to.
12:06I mean, there's nothing he does wrong, and he does a lot of things great.
12:11He's just a great person to be able to talk to.
12:13Like, he called me the other day, and we just had a great conversation.
12:17He's definitely a person that I've met that's going to be a long-time friend,
12:20and I can't wait.
12:22I know that he loves watching you play.
12:26I imagine that he reached out to you right after you were leaving.
12:29What was that conversation like?
12:31It was a great conversation.
12:32I mean, I wasn't surprised when he called me.
12:36Or actually, I was a little surprised when he called me
12:38because, like, I know he's got his family and rehab and stuff like that.
12:41So, when I saw his name pop up, I, like, ran to the other room to make sure
12:45that I could, like, hear what he was going to say
12:47because he FaceTimed me to congratulate me.
12:50Hey, Jared.
12:51What's up, boys?
12:52How are you doing?
12:53How are you?
12:54Good, good.
12:55Thanks, boys.
12:56I appreciate it.
12:57How are you guys doing?
