Exciting new restaurants coming to Liverpool
Transcript
00:00One of the original seven streets of the city, Castle Street, got its name from the castle which
00:04was once located here. Now a thriving part of the city's commercial district lined with bars
00:09and restaurants. In 2020, Liverpool Council launched a fund to help local businesses redesign
00:14outdoor spaces and turn them into high quality covered seating areas, making up for the lack
00:19of internal space they lost during social distancing restrictions. This has resulted
00:24in part of the road being closed to traffic, enabling venues to spill out onto the streets.
00:29Now the city centre street is getting ready to welcome some new restaurants to its lineup.
00:33The long unoccupied former Bank of England building is to be brought back to life
00:37as planning permission has been secured to bring the Ivy brand to the city. Ahead of the venues
00:42and pending arrival, officials behind the Ivy have said it can only be a boost for the city's food
00:47sector. Plans to convert the building into a dining venue were signed off by the council's
00:51planning committee last August. The proposals are bringing the site back to life having been
00:55left vacant for the best part of two decades. The new venue will be part of the Ivy collection,
01:00a series of spin-off restaurants the firm's opened since 2014. Also on the menu, plans that could see
01:06a major restaurant chain coming to the city centre are back on the table. Thai restaurant chain
01:11Giggling Squid is looking to set up its first venue in the north-west in a grade two listed
01:15site that's been occupied by the Point Blank shooting bar. Now with the bar having vacated
01:20the lower ground lot next to Castle Street townhouse, fresh plans have been submitted to
01:24the council for consideration on the future of the former bank building. They're the latest business
01:29to consider moving into the business district following Vietnamese chain Pho and Turkish brand
01:34Alif. One of the oldest recorded streets in the city, this is a place absolutely steeped in history
01:41and it shows no signs of going anywhere. As well as joining already established bars and restaurants
01:48on the road, they'll also be in great company as of course the head of Castle Street
01:54stands at Liverpool Town Hall, the base for the Lord Mayor and all civic matters.
