Where is the best Scouse in Liverpool from?

00:00Scouse has to be the most famous and possibly favourite dish local to Liverpool, whether
00:07your nan makes you a pan of it or you head to one of the many eateries in the city where
00:12it's on the table. It's on some menus all year round but that could be more for tourists
00:19than for locals. Where in the city makes the best bowl of this comforting stew? We've been
00:25on the streets of Liverpool to find out. My own personal opinion is Maggie May's in Bowl
00:30Street. I've been going there for years and I think it's probably one of the best ones
00:38I've had and Bowl Street's a great place to go anyway so keep it local and look after
00:45the independence. Best place to get Scouse? My mum's house. She made the best Scouse in
00:52the world. Your mum does the best. Well I never had Scouse because I don't eat meat
01:02really apart from a bit of fish. It comes from the word lobscouse but it changed to
01:07Scouse and that is why people in Liverpool are called Scouses. The recipe is as classic
01:11as it is interchangeable. It can be made with beef, lamb or neither which is what we refer
01:17to as blind Scouse. Alongside the meat a mixture of vegetables usually including carrots, onions
01:23and potatoes are all cooked low and slow. The accompaniments vary between pickled red cabbage
01:30or beetroot. Some even enjoy it with a side of brown sauce. I might try it yeah I have never
01:36tried a blind Scouse. Beetroot, red cabbage and bread with loads of butter on it. Big bowl
01:47and you go Mum, any more please? Your mum's the best one to do Scouse. Forget your
01:54coffee bars and all that. It's shattered too much. Your mum's the best one.
