00:00In terms of the EHC needs assessment process, it's a 20-week process,
00:04and that is a statutory timescale which the local authority must comply with.
00:12And if the local authority goes over that timescale, then the parents should be writing
00:19to the Director of Children's Services at their council to say they've gone over the timescale
00:27and basically say if they don't take action immediately and do what they need to do as
00:34the next step, then they could say that they'll take the matter further. And one of the things
00:42they could do is ask a solicitor to write what's called a pre-action protocol letter for judicial
00:51review, which is used when a local authority is failing to meet its statutory duty.
00:58And usually you will find, because it goes to the legal department,
01:02that the council will usually act pretty quickly.
