00:00:25Our reasons for caring about these games are reasons for paying attention to these games

00:00:29So yeah, I'll talk through my thoughts on on where USA is at with we're still

00:00:35So like 10 days away from from their first Olympic game, which is crazy to me. I feel like if I had my druthers

00:00:58We were talking about Joel Embiid starting and how he probably shouldn't even though he's a great player

00:01:02Just doesn't Anthony Davis is like a perfect international five, and why is he not out there?

00:01:13It is very fun to watch and there's no coincidence

00:01:15that that's when USA built their big lead against Serbia and pulled away from a Serbian team that was hanging around and they're

00:01:21They're in USA's group Serbia Nikola Jokic and the Serbs will be in

00:01:27In the same group as the United States in the Olympics

00:01:30So we will see those two teams play again

00:01:31Here in a little bit also want to talk about summer league a little bit the the the story out of summer league right now

00:01:36If it's not Bronny James, but it's always Bronny James as long as Bronny James is

00:01:40Still in summer league. I think he's going to be the story of summer league that that is certainly the case this year

00:01:45It'll be the case next year when he goes back to summer league

00:01:47It'll be the case the third year when he goes to summer league and that fourth year when he's on his fourth year of his

00:01:52Four-year contract it'll probably still be the case and then when he signs with the Las Vegas expansion team that LeBron owns at that point

00:03:02Already this kid AJ de Bansa is like be I'm being told that he's better than Cooper flag and Cooper flag was in his class

00:03:14But then somehow the Bansa is better than Cooper flag even though Cooper flag was just in his class

00:04:00Where I'm ready to walk back my Anthony Davis should start opinion, but not because Anthony Davis is bad. It's the exact opposite

00:04:06He's unbelievable. I was gonna say there's there's no debate that Anthony Davis is one of the top five

00:04:11Top three most important players on the basket

00:04:14Yeah, he is he is like perfect

00:04:16He's the perfect five for international basketball, and that that's the that's the big point that

00:04:21Needs to be made about the team the United States men's national back

00:04:33This is not the NBA it's not the NBA

00:04:36There's a you'll turn the television on especially when we're playing Canada

00:04:39And you will see a little almost exclusively NBA players on the floor. They are not playing NBA basketball

00:04:44They're playing a completely different type type of basketball

00:04:47Which to the untrained eye and this is gonna sound pretentious and like I I know the game

00:04:55I know the game on a level that that our audience does not but to an untrained eye you might say

00:05:01There's not what's the there's not really that big of a difference between FIBA and NBA there is when you can play zone defense

00:05:06You can park a guy in the middle of the paint

00:05:08When you can swat

00:05:10Balls off the rim like those those very little changes when the three-point line is in closer

00:05:15So defenses can pack in a little more

00:05:16And they don't have to be spread out to run to the three all that sort of thing sort of it adds up the game

00:05:21Takes on a different feel and with that Joel Embiid

00:05:24No doubt about it in my mind

00:05:26It is I don't mean to put Anthony Davis down is a great player

00:05:29But I think on an NBA level as it stands in 2024 Joel Embiid is a better NBA player

00:05:42But this international play is international play

00:05:44and I don't think I don't I think Anthony Davis is very clearly better than Joel Embiid on this in this brand of basketball and

00:05:52Proven to be is pretty good so you throw them out there, but I will say

00:05:57when using them as the second unit when they come in and I think that's the strength of the United States year after year after

00:06:03Year is it's not necessarily our starting five is better than everyone else's which it is more often than not

00:06:08If we're sending our best it certainly is I think the the way we get you is

00:06:13Just when you think like you're hanging around with our starters. You're like oh we got something here

00:06:18You have to go to your bench because your starters are tired

00:06:20We're gonna go to our bench and guess guess what we're bringing off the bench

00:06:23We're bringing BAM on a bio Anthony Edwards Anthony Davis, which by the way, I want Anthony Edwards to start

00:07:02That's just a nightmare for offenses to try to score on ad and BAM are so they're like the perfect four and five

00:07:10Defensively playing off of each other and then Anthony Edwards is a star. Yeah, I was fired up about our players 6 through 12

00:07:16I mean 6 through 50 are substantially better. You're right. That's where the gap comes in

00:10:07I need BAM BAM out of bio to play for the Lakers or or Anthony Davis to go to just so I can be

00:10:12Because I just want to watch these guys play together more often because they're incredible together

00:10:15And Anthony Edwards, I think Anthony Edwards, I I still think like Steph was awesome against Serbia

00:10:23he like carried the load the first certainly the from the start, but

00:10:27Like first half or whatever, but Anthony Edwards might be the most dynamic

00:10:32I agree exciting player on the team like Anthony Edwards is the guy that

00:10:36Like it's to me like the starters are like the legacy play and I think when Katie comes back. He's gonna start

00:10:47Embiid I don't think is ever gonna not start

00:10:51It's like signing a five-star recruit and you promised him all this playing time and you can't make your third house and all the story

00:11:00So bronze Steph Katie Embiid and I feel like that's the legacy play and all those guys are good

00:11:15The second unit is the unit that is pulling away. I think they play better together. I think there's less of like a

00:11:27I mean, I said this last time and I I was wrong because they're guys from the same teams on here the

00:11:33All these guys are the best players on their team, but there's the second best boy, whatever they are

00:11:37They all have first option energy. We'll put it that way with the exception of probably Derek white. Mm-hmm and drew holiday drew holiday

00:11:43Everybody else everybody else that's on the floor is like I am very comfortable being a first option

00:11:47I've been a first in my entire life, right?

00:11:50Every so often I'll defer to maybe a teammate but like I am the first option and I feel like the guys who start

00:11:57By virtue of starting you're even that's even amplified more where it's like

00:12:02I am one of the five on it on maybe on what people are saying is the most talented USA team of all time

00:12:07I am one of the five guys that has been put on this court

00:12:11so therefore I have to now flex that and that doesn't mean I have to shoot every shot or I have to but there's like

00:12:17Like LeBron's trying to make the extra pass and like be like Steph is trying to be a little

00:12:23again, I don't mean selfish but he's just like putting on his show and he said like he was scoring well and bees like I

00:12:28Got to show that I'm worth something like all these guys are trying to demonstrate it and I feel like the second unit

00:12:32Doesn't give a fuck and they're just kind of playing ball. There's something something humbling

00:12:36I don't even know if humblings the right word because they're all still like we're not looking at Anthony Davis and Anthony Edwards and being

00:12:42Like you're a scrub, but there's something humbling about coming off coming off the bench

00:12:47Someone had to make the decision of who the man is on this team and you're not in the top five

00:12:51Yeah, so you come in and you got to do what's best for the team and that's it's honestly

00:12:55Watching them play that second group comes in and plays that way as opposed to the first group

00:13:00and I think that's why I want Anthony Davis to stay on the bench because I don't want Anthony Davis to fall into the

00:13:04Trap of thinking like I have to oh shit. I'm starting for Team USA. Am I the best big man in the world right now?

00:13:09I gotta go prove that I'm the I just want him to keep doing what he's doing because he's he is

00:13:14We talked about this last time of guys who by playing on Team USA. It sort of changes your perception of them

00:13:21And I don't think Anthony Davis

00:13:23He is one of the best defenders the game of basketball has ever seen

00:13:27and and he's been that way ever since he was at Kentucky, but there is sort of like a

00:13:32That there does seem to be like a weird passive energy to him. He gets like banged up a lot

00:13:37It feels like when you're watching him in playoff games more often

00:13:39I like he'll jam his finger and then he's like

00:13:41Grimacing and he's like rolling around and you're like dude just sack up and get the fuck back out

00:13:45Like what are you doing, dude? Um, so I don't mean to say he's he's softer

00:13:50there's just something like a

00:14:16Team USA, I'm like, I love this guy and I and I think it's like helping with my perception of him because it's it's he's

00:14:22Unbelievable to strengthen that are you are you a synergy guy like how you play together and how you actually yeah. Yeah

00:14:30What if you benched him and he became in the second group? He doesn't fit in like that

00:14:43With the guys that come in because I do think Embiid would come in and be like, oh

00:14:46I'm coming off the bench because they want me to carry the second unit. They need more scoring. It's all about me. Yeah

00:14:51I like Joel Embiid, by the way, I think he's a funny personality. I just kind of I

00:14:57Watching him play. It's impossible to not just be driven crazy. That's all it is

00:15:07I'm doing so only because the product that he's putting out as a basketball player

00:15:12Upsets me at times, but like I do think he's a very funny, dude

00:16:31I but I do think it's like a valid thing to point out that like what makes him great is not necessarily what this team

00:16:37Needs I do think that that's a valid thing to say, but I also think we should I also think people can get carried away

00:16:54No, I think I think you beat Team USA the same way every Team USA loses, which is

00:17:00What I said at the top like you get them playing NBA basketball in a FIBA setting and they're playing

00:17:04Iso ball and it's a lot of my turn and it's a lot of guys that average 20-plus in the league and

00:17:11No one's like really sat them down and did the math and was like listen dudes

00:17:17I know you all think you're gonna average 20 if that was the case we would average as a team 240 points a game and

00:17:22That's just simply not going to happen. It's just simply not gonna happen

00:17:25So some of you are gonna have to step back and some of you are gonna step, you know

00:18:34He doesn't cheat the game and LeBron. I do think he has an appreciation for the moment

00:18:40He has appreciation for what like he does very much respect Team USA

00:18:44He respects like like he's not out there as a legacy play. He's out there to like be a sir

00:18:50I truly believe this and you can roll your eyes all you want. Those of you watching listening

00:18:57Institution that is Team USA basketball do my part and then we'll pass it on to the next guy

00:19:09That's why we're not gonna lose I think him and Steph and KD just like as long as KD plays like there's no chance

00:19:46that's a fair thing because I do think that like I think Canada is good enough to theoretically beat us and

00:20:37When they when the the whole reason the redeem team came along was because of the Oh for Olympics, right?

00:22:23And that's what Kobe was and I think that's what LeBron will be for this team. So I think they'll be fine

00:22:28I will say though my last note on team USA because we don't need to

00:22:31We still have worse. Yeah, we still got ten days multiple exhibitions before you have before the Olympics even start put up. I

00:22:44I would do but I kind of hate that that we're doing platoons
