00:00On Thursday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported that a 7.3-magnitude tremor
00:16shook the mining region of Antofagasta in the northern Chile, with no reports of casualties
00:21or material damage.
00:23According to the EMSC, the seismic occurred at a depth of 128 km and it was felt in regions
00:30of Bolivia, Peru and Argentina.
00:32However, the probability of damage in Chile is low.
00:35Although no immediate damage was reported, the National Disaster Prevention and Response
00:39Service stated that it was investigating possible damage to people, disruption of basic services
00:45or infrastructure resulting from this earthquake.
00:48Furthermore, the National Seismological Centre of the University of Chile reported multiple
00:53aftershocks near San Pedro de Atacama, whose magnitudes have ranged between 3.1 and 4.8.
01:05In Ecuador, a forecast fire affected 120 hectares of the city of Giron and Santa Isabel in the
01:11southeast of that jurisdiction due to high levels of heat registered in the area.
01:16The authorities at the site activated an emergency operations centre to address the damage, while
01:21the fire brigades of the three cities are trying to control the fire.
01:26The Secretariat of Rescue Management informed that so far no houses have been affected but
01:31warned that the fire is still active.
01:33The governmental entity detailed that during this session the low humidity level in the
01:38atmosphere, the scarce cloudiness and as well the increase in wind speed and ultraviolet
01:44radiation favoured the creation of forest fires.
01:52The Brazilian government reported that 96% of the fires in the Pantanal biome have been
01:58extinguished while the remaining 40% are in the process of being controlled and 4% are
02:04still being fought.
02:06In this sense, the entity warned about the forecast of a heat wave with low humidity
02:12starting next weekend increasing the risk of new fires.
02:15On the other hand, the Ministry of Budget and Planning reaffirmed the commitment of
02:19President Lula to ensure the first resources to face climate emergency as well as the commitment
02:25of the federal government to environmental sustainability.
02:34In China, floods caused by heavy rains leave at least 5 people dead and 8 people missing
02:39in the centre of the country.
02:41In Baoyi City, Shanxi province, the rains caused floods, landslides, damage to infrastructure
02:47among other effects.
