00:00It is round number two Friday at the 2024 Open Championship at
00:08Royal Troon on the West Coast of Scotland. Shane Lowry, your
00:13leader as of this moment, seven under par for the tournament
00:16after an opening round 66 at five under a second round 69
00:22two under par. He has a two-stroke lead at the moment
00:25over Daniel Brown, who is the round one leader after an
00:28opening round 65. He is won over through 14 holes today.
00:33Let me give some credit to Daniel Brown. I said he was
00:35like World 365 only 272 still had missed four of his last
00:40five cuts on the DP World Tour entering the open, but not
00:44nearly as bad as I indicated so Daniel Brown playing good
00:48golf. The Englishman, the fellow Englishman, Justin Rose,
00:52who has competed at the open dating back to his time as an
00:56amateur in the late 1990s for nearly a quarter century or
01:00even over that Justin Rose two under today after an opening
01:04round 69. He is four under sits in third alone. Yeah. That's
01:09when we talk about like those older sort of crafty players
01:12like Justin Rose that can still get the job done because
01:14they've had the capabilities to winning on USO and also over
01:17there in Scotland and the UK for the British Open, but at
01:21the same time, I'm sort of looking at this line. Scotty
01:24Sheffler top five right now two under par, but he's five
01:26shots back. I need to see more superstars here, but also this
01:30is what we talked about even with Charlie on earlier this
01:32week saying to ourselves. You know what is this one of those
01:35tournaments where looking at the leaderboard that we're
01:37going to get some surprises and maybe the top cream of the
01:40crop players aren't going to be in that top 15 top 20 making
01:43the charge on Sunday afternoon and usually that could be a
01:46little bit detrimental to the ratings because we love star
01:48power going after major championships all the time.
01:51That's what draws it in, but I'm looking at this top and
01:53hey, why not Justin Rose? Why not Daniel Brown? Why not
01:56Shane Rowley? We're not knocking you know these guys
01:59as being not great golfers, but we're used to seeing the
02:01superstars up there, but Scotty is always lurking at this point
02:05minus two after two rounds here. We'll see what he has for
02:07the weekend. Never ever count him out still a decent amount
02:11of star power in a tied eight spot right now still in the top
02:15ten Jason Day one under Patrick can't lay one under both
02:18shooting three under in their second round with a sixty-eight
02:22shot. Two under through his opening round did drop a shot
02:26one over par seventy-two in round number two also at one
02:30under par. Let's give some credit to the big Irishman
02:33Shane Lowry the 2019 champion golfer of the year winning the
02:36Claret Jug at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush
02:40back in 2019. He is a major champion, but Donnie we go
02:45through all of these things and handicapping and previewing
02:48each and every week and we talk about the value on Scotty
02:52Sheffler too short to bet before the tournament gets
02:54underway who might have a longer price that we think is
02:57going to be in the hunt come the weekend come Sunday
03:00afternoon. Maybe we're just making it too difficult. Just
03:03bet Scotty Sheffler plus 450 before the tournament now plus
03:08360 plus 190 Shane Lowry is the favorite and Donnie is correct
03:13both done now with their second round. Lowry does have a five
03:17shot advantage over Sheffler who is one under shooting a 70
03:20in both round one and round two two under for the tournament,
03:24but already in the top five. Scotty Sheffler is minus 190 to
03:29finish top five. He was minus 165 to finish top ten before the
03:35tournament got underway. He's just always going to be there
03:39or at least if it's not always 75% of the time and if you're
03:44hitting winning wagers at 75% of the time, you are going to
03:49be incredibly profitable when all is said and done. Yes, and
03:52also now you have to take a look at the weekend, which what
03:55the Saturday and Sunday mean obviously players are going to
03:57be moving around and jockeying for position to try to get in
03:59that final, you know set of golfers on Sunday, but having
04:02said that Lowry's got that. Let's just say he stays at
04:05seven under and he's the leader in the clubhouse. You have the
04:07ability for the next day to see what all of those players
04:10before you are doing to understand what you have to do
04:13in that golf course. If people are going at pins and people
04:15routinely shooting three four and five under you know what
04:18you have to do, but you could wake up tomorrow morning and
04:20watch him like hey, you know what I'm seven under two shots
04:22clear of Daniel Brown by the time your tournament starts. If
04:25you're still two under hey look, I just got to play golf
04:27where it's like alright hit the fairway hit the greens to put
04:30and get out of here without any damage. That's the advantage of
04:32having a lead on the weekend. You already know what the other
04:35scores are going to be now. You just have to match them and or
04:38better them. Yeah. so Tiger Woods by the way did just
04:42Complete his second round sits over 7714 over for the
04:47tournament battling right now to stay out of last. He's not
04:51going to be last, but of course he is going to miss the weekend
04:55Rory McIlroy seven over in his opening round with a 78 on the
05:01card. The projected cut line still at four over par for this
05:05Friday trying to see the weekend at the open Rory's round
05:09two over underscoring prop 71 and a half under that 71.
05:15That's even par at Royal Troon today, but Rory's gotta be at
05:19least three under it would seem as of right now and the
05:22difficult thing is with Shane Lowry posting that seven under
05:26the top of the leaderboard is not really going to change. We
05:30could see some players fall out and Rory's positioning be
05:33better to move the cut line, but Rory's gotta be at least a
05:36few under par DRS on this Friday to see the weekend even,
05:41but it does seem as this is this year's final major
05:43championship in men's golf that Rory's decade-long major
05:48championship winning drought is going to continue into 11 years
05:52when all is said and done and it looks like it too because
05:55you're going to have to post one of the better scores of the
05:57day to get inside what we think now is the projected cut line of
06:00four because again if it was six under seven under eight under a
06:04couple guys is okay. Rory can cook. He's that talented. He
06:06can get it going as well, but you're looking at maybe what's
06:09the best round of the day so far been finished three under
06:11par. So you have exactly so I mean you're you're really not
06:14you're really not going to do too much damage that way. So
06:17he's really got that uphill climb and competing and winning
06:20is difference than just making the weekend. I'm sure he wants
06:23to make the weekend because it'd be embarrassing to come
06:25home there and say you know what I didn't play all that
06:27well and play terrible guy. He didn't just miss the cut. Let's
06:29see what he does today. He could put another plus seven
06:31together and just really be out of it at that point. DRS minus
06:35190 right now on Scotty Sheffler to finish top five. He
06:39is in a tie for fourth at this moment with the 25% profit
06:44boost on the fan dual sports book each and every day that
06:47you have for the open championship. Is it worth a bet
06:50at like a minus 160 number for Sheffler to finish top five?
06:55You figure he's going to be there again. I haven't done
06:57much research on the weather itself and that's going to be
06:59key. Like if you look and it's just average conditions there.
07:02Absolutely, but if you're going to find that it might be 40
07:05mile an hour wind gusts, then it's obviously anybody's game,
07:07but if it's normal wind conditions at the open, then
07:10why not? He's always there at the end.
