84 years of mining history ended in 1991 when the final shift emerged from the cages at Dawdon Colliery.

00:00Dorden Pit. Once a place which employed 3,000 mine workers and had a popular
00:07swimming pool. But in July 1991 it all came to an end when the last shift of
00:1440 workers emerged from the cage at the colliery. 84 years of mining were over.
00:22Ironically as the last shift finished British Coal confirmed the industry was
00:28in the black for the first time in 13 years. Demolition work began within weeks
00:34and the pit head buildings were blown up in 1992. Plenty of you will have memories
