International nurses are vital to patient care
Transcript
00:00It all began when I was in the Philippines, I was working in a surgical ward and there
00:05was this junior doctor saying that their dad's recruiting for nurses to the UK.
00:13I came to Northern Ireland just by myself and I have no family.
00:16My aunt lived in London at the time, but no close family in Northern Ireland.
00:24I started working in Southeastern Trust in February 2001.
00:28I was assigned to Plastics and Maxillofacial Ward and since then on I'm still working
00:34in the same ward 23 years after.
00:37Our international nurses make up a vital part of the Southeastern Trust nursing family.
00:43Many of these staff have come here a huge personal sacrifice, our wards and departments
00:49absolutely could not do without them.
00:52I feel proud and you know based on my experience I'm now able to look after and manage the
01:02ward and looking back as a band 5 I was thinking will I be able to do this in the future and
01:09now it's like now I can do and manage the ward and manage the people I work with.
01:16What I love most is working with the patients, talking to them about their care and looking
01:22after them.
01:24Working with the team in Plastics they were all really nice to work with and they were
01:29very supportive of me.
01:31You know even me coming from a different place I felt I'm part of their family.
