00:12Following the order of President Bongbong Marcos to close the POGOs in the country,
00:17the Pag Corps will appeal to include 12 companies.
00:21Why? Let's find out in the testimony of Mackie Pulido.
00:24🎵
00:28Effective today, all POGOs are banned.
00:32Following the order of President Bongbong Marcos to close the POGOs in the country,
00:38the Bureau of Immigration will appeal to include Pag Corps and DOLE.
00:41For that, in the cancellation of the permits initiated by online gaming companies to foreign employees,
00:47the visas of the so-called foreigners will also be refunded.
00:50According to the Pag Corps, there are more than 35,000 foreign employees of POGOs
00:55and the number of Philippine employees affected by the closure will reach more than 40,000,
01:01including more than 31,000 who are directly employed in POGOs and connected to ancillary services
01:07connected to POGO hubs, such as janitorial services.
01:10If you include the SBPO, the maximum is 40,000 to 42,000.
01:16The officials who work in overseas gaming companies or IGFs,
01:23it's around 31,800.
01:26Let's say it's more than 31,000.
01:29And then, this SBPO, it's almost 10,000.
01:32So, if you include it, it's around 40,000.
01:37DOLE will try to help them.
01:39We have to already lay down the plans of action,
01:43what kind of intervention we can help with,
01:46and not wait until December.
01:48It's a bit heavy if we only plan for that time.
01:52But aside from that, April's colleagues are not included.
01:55She works at a fruit store,
01:58where she earns her living in some condominium buildings in Pasay City
02:01where Chinese POGO workers live.
02:04The business here mostly depends on POGO workers.
02:10Yes, because they are also our first customers.
02:16POGO and other companies will fix the exit plan
02:21because some have signed contracts.
02:23PAGCOR has also appealed not to include 12 of the 43 POGO companies that will be closed.
02:29These are just customer service agents of gaming companies.
02:34In an interview with Super Radyo-DZBB,
02:36PAGCOR said that they would earn P7 billion pesos from POGO in 2024.
02:42POGO is not yet paying for BIR, DOLE, and immigration.
02:47At the moment, we are studying where we can get P7 billion pesos.
02:54But according to NEDA,
02:56the benefit will be greater if POGO will be removed
02:59compared to the effect of POGO in other sectors, such as tourism.
03:03The POGO contributed less than 1.5% of our GDP as of 2022.
03:11On the other hand, we are likely losing from the presence of these POGOs
03:16because of, for example, tourism.
03:19China has made it clear that cross-border tourism
03:22are likely to be regulated by them for countries that host these POGOs
03:27that cater to their citizens.
03:31In the middle of the President's order,
03:33the Senate and the House of Representatives continued to listen.
03:35In the House of Representatives,
03:36some lawmakers are asking for the Executive Session
03:38to hand over to them documents of licenses of PAGCOR,
03:42documents that cannot be given to the public.
03:44The Executive Session is important
03:46because what will be worrying now is that
03:50maybe the 43 will suddenly increase,
03:53the POGO will be transferred to the IGL.
03:5643 are the main licenses of PAGCOR that has an IGL.
04:02That's from 298.
04:06So for now, 43 are the main licenses.
04:10This 402, we don't know where it will go.
04:16Maybe they are happy because there are no more POGOs.
04:19We need to be more vigilant.
04:23Some lawmakers are also pushing to hand over to the committee
04:27the former officials of PAGCOR and the names mentioned in the POGO.
04:31Just to mention a few, Mr. Chairman,
04:33Ms. Andrea Domingo was invited,
04:35Attorney Harry Roque was also invited,
04:38Mr. Dennis Cunanan,
04:40and Mr. Cassandra Leong was also invited.
04:43And they're not around.
04:45Maybe we can move that these people
04:50be issued a show-cause order.
04:53We are still trying to get hold of the names mentioned.
