Marcos presides over NDRRMC meeting on impact of 'Carina,' 'Habagat'

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. holds a situation briefing to assess the effects of Typhoon 'Carina' and the enhanced southwest monsoon at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC)Headquarters in Quezon City on July 24, 2024. The President said the government's response to Typhoon 'Carina' was 'okay' and he ordered the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to continue assisting those affected and to work with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) to focus on 'critical areas.' In the same briefing Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos recommended to the President that Metro Manila be placed under a state of calamity after being swamped by floods due to the typhoon-enhanced southwest monsoon or 'habagat.'

00:59... It works because kung yung daan na landslide kailangan magtulungan sila ng LGU para mag-clear yung daan.
01:29... like Naguotas, Malabon. These are all these places na babah talaga sa dagat yan at laging nababah.
01:59... I always say kung siyang namunguno ng buong Metro Manila mayor, mag-convince sila mamaya after this para makapag-decide kung talagang kailangan ba mag-State of Calamity ng buong MCR.
02:29... It's because sabay-sabay. Pagiging calamity sa 3 regions involved then already the national has to come in. That's a national calamity already. Wala na kaming choice to basok ng national. But it's up to the local communities to decide because they know best what they need.
So that's what we're working on now."
03:29"... sensitive areas like Camanaba and Marikina at last kung talagang evacuation dapat makatulungan. Yes, kailangan magtulungan. Kung di kaya ng Marikina it could be part of Quezon City, mga neighbors niya. Kailangan magtulungan. Anyway, ang Metro Manila mayors naman don't know that we're having MCR."
03:59"... iba ito eh. This is calamity. Siguro maunawaan naman ng ating mga kamay. Calamity dito eh. Importante dito ang tulungan na lang."
