00:00The world is falling significantly short of achieving zero hunger by 2030.
00:07According to a new report on food security published by the United Nations,
00:12around 733 million people faced hunger last year.
00:17The new report shows that the world has been set back 15 years
00:21with levels of undernourishment comparable to those between 2008 and 2009.
00:30The numbers have not changed from the previous years, basically,
00:33which were already years where we have seen already the increase because of COVID-19.
00:38So what we are reporting this year is that we have between 713 million and 757 million people
00:44which are chronically undernourished, people facing hunger.
00:47At least one out of 11 people in the world are facing hunger.
00:51The regional trends vary significantly in the report.
00:54While hunger continues to rise in Africa, it remains stable in Asia.
00:59South America has very developed social protection programs that allow them to target interventions
01:04so they can effectively move out of hunger in a very fast way because it's efficient.
01:11In the case of Africa, we have not observed that.
01:14We have observed that they still don't have the institutionality
01:16to deliver a good targeted social protection program.
01:19Experts believe food insecurity and malnutrition are worsening
01:24due to persisting food price inflation, conflict and climate change.
