00:00Turkey evacuated its citizens from Lebanon amid the growing escalation between Israel
00:06and Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah.
00:11Ukraine's President Zelensky met with the leaders of the UK and NATO to discuss his
00:15secret victory plan for the war against Russia.
00:46I hope this war will end soon, because we left our family there, I left my husband there,
01:01so I hope to come back soon.
01:15Thank you very much.
01:45German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced further arms deliveries to Israel during a debate in
02:05the country's parliament.
02:08In his speech he made it clear that Germany previously delivered arms and will continue
02:13to do so. However, Scholz left open the extent to which weapons are to be delivered, with
02:19some German parties accusing the governing coalition of lacking support for Israel.
02:26After the US, Germany is one of the most important arms suppliers to Israel.
02:34The outbreak of war in the Middle East has raised serious concerns in Europe.
02:40On Friday, leaders from the nine Mediterranean countries which form the MEDNINE alliance
02:44are due to meet in Cyprus, where they will discuss the risks posed by the escalating
02:49conflict between Lebanon, Israel and Gaza, and explore ways to address the deepening
02:54humanitarian crisis.
03:10Another major concern for Cyprus is the prospect
03:29of another wave of migration from the Middle East.
03:33The island has already been strained by a large influx of refugees, particularly Syrians
03:39arriving via Lebanon.
03:41And now Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulidis is warning that Cyprus has reached its limit.
04:09Last spring, Cyprus received a large number of refugees and migrants from Lebanon. Nikos
04:14Christodoulidis and Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Virito, which also received a package
04:19of aid worth 1.2 million euros.
04:22However, the extent of the war changes the facts.
04:25The MEDNINE will examine ways of responding, as a large number of people are trying to
04:30reach Europe via Cyprus and Greece.
04:33From Lefkosia for Euronews, Apostolos Taikos.
04:44Ukrainian President Zelensky met with the British Prime Minister and new NATO Secretary
04:48General for talks on his secret victory plan for the war against Russia.
04:53Zelensky was originally set to present his plan at a meeting with Western leaders in
04:57Germany.
04:58But it was postponed after US President Biden said he had to stay in the US to deal with
05:03an impending hurricane.
05:05Can I say again that when we discuss Ukraine, we know it is tough, because the Russians
05:12are making small advances in the east, by the way, at a considerable loss of life on
05:18the Russian side. So they lose a lot of people, people dying, people getting seriously wounded,
05:23but still the Russians are making those small advances.
05:28Details of Zelensky's victory plan have been kept quiet, but contours have emerged, including
05:33the need for fast action on decision Western allies have been mulling since the full-scale
05:38invasion began in 2022.
05:42After talks with the British officials, Zelensky travelled to France for a meeting with French
05:47President Emmanuel Macron.
05:57The European Union has given the green light to a loan of 35 billion euros to Ukraine.
06:02It will be gradually repaid through interest from frozen Russian assets.
06:07These Russian foreign reserves amount to approximately 270 billion euros, of which 210 billion are
06:13in the EU.
06:15The exceptional profits generated are estimated to yield between 2.5 and 3 billion euros per
06:20year.
06:21An initial agreement reached in June provided for the G7 to collectively provide 45 billion
06:26to PEACE by the end of the year.
06:29In the end, the EU had to put more money on the table because Washington conditioned
06:33its participation on an extension of the EU sanctions against Moscow.
07:00These sanctions are voted on every six months unanimously, but the EU now would like to
07:05renew them only every three years for more stability.
07:09The US is concerned that a member state blocking these sanctions would sabotage the plan.
07:14Hungary has already declared that it will hold back any decision on changes in the sanctions
07:19regime until after the US presidential elections.
07:29We are moving towards the second half of the year after the elections, but there is
07:33no guarantee that that might move forward.
07:35There's a lot of hesitancy.
07:36In particular, if Donald Trump were to win the election, what might his plans be for
07:42both aid as well as for moving towards a ceasefire?
07:46Kiev will be free to decide how these funds are used.
07:50The ball is now in the court of the European Parliament, which must give its consent to
07:55the 35 billion euro loan.
08:00Addressing issues related to family and demography will be at the centre of the upcoming European
08:07Congress on Family, organised by the ISIA party in Croatia.
08:11In a briefing held in Rome, the parties' secretary general Antonio Giordano, alongside
08:16representatives of Brothers of Italy, explained the focus of the event and why these topics
08:21are central to the Conservatives' political agenda.
08:24One topic is certainly the value point, on which the Conservatives have a very clear
08:30idea.
08:31Great openness to all kinds of rights, but with the family at the centre.
08:36Then there are the economic challenges that families face, and this will be discussed
08:44with economists.
08:46Then there are the technological challenges, because let's not forget that today one of
08:52the elements of family crisis is the abandonment of dialogue in favour of social media.
08:59A total of 300 delegates from around the world will attend the event, among them representatives
09:05from various right-wing forces.
09:07The ICR's party mission is to strengthen ties among Conservatives around shared values,
09:13acting as a mediator among different parties.
09:16When we talk about family, everything comes together.
09:19So we will have members of the People's Party, we will have members of the Patriots,
09:24obviously the majority of the members will be members of the European Conservative Party.
09:29In general, the ICR's project is to be the centre of dialogue.
09:35So the meeting point where we can speak to our right and our left, and in the future
09:44I hope to go even further to the left.
09:46Family and the fight against the demographic crisis gripping Europe have long been central
09:51to the ICR and FDI's political agenda.
09:54In Italy, we undoubtedly have worrying numbers that need to be put at the centre of the government's
10:03political agenda, which the Meloni government has already done with a series of distancing measures.
10:08Giorgia Orlandi for Euronews in Rome.
10:14Hurricane Milton has made landfall along Florida's Gulf Coast as a Category 3 storm,
10:20bringing life-threatening storm surges, flooding, rainfall and extreme winds.
10:28Gusts travelling as fast as 100 miles per hour have been reported in the Tampa Bay area,
10:34and flash flood warnings have been issued for nearly two million people in Tampa,
10:38St Petersburg and Clearwater.
10:41More than a million people have currently lost power,
10:45and outages are expected to increase as Milton moves across the state.
10:51Shelters have been set up across the state for those who have had to evacuate their homes,
10:56and Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis has warned people to stay inside.
11:03Stay inside and stay off the roads.
11:05Floodwaters and rushing storm surge are very dangerous.
11:09Stay put until the storm has passed.
11:11If you are in Sarasota, Manatee, some of those areas where the eye of the storm is going,
11:16it may be where things calm down for a minute.
11:19Just understand that means you're in the eye, it's going to go back and get really nasty very soon.
11:24So don't go outdoors until it is confirmed safe.
11:28Search and rescue operations also continue after multiple tornadoes tore across Florida
11:33ahead of Milton's approach, destroying around 125 homes.
