A former assistant administrative officer of the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) was fined RM50,000 by the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh on Thursday (July 27) for cheating a teacher of over RM30,000.

00:13Judge Elizabeth Payawan handed down the sentence after 39-year-old Mohd Anwar Madzin pleaded
00:18guilty to the charge on Thursday.
00:21According to the charge sheet, Mohd Anwar deceived a substitute teacher into believing
00:25that the official receipt for the repayment of Fixed Housing Allowance Emoluments, Cost
00:30of Living Allowance and Civil Service Allowance due to resignation amounting to RM 30,749.88
00:38were genuine.
00:39This fraudulent action led the victim to hand over the said amount.
00:43The offence occurred at the Human Resources Division office at JAIM Headquarters in Melaka
00:48Tengah District between November 3 and November 8, 2017.
00:53The charge was framed under Section 417 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term
00:57of up to five years, a fine or both upon conviction.
