House prices rise in Wales for the first time in a year

House prices in Wales have risen for the first time in over a year, but still remain lower than they were 12 months ago. There has been a continuous dip in prices since 2022, but these figures show that trend could be coming to an end over the next quarters.

00:09House prices across the country have varied massively over the last 12 months, with some
00:14seeing an increase, with some areas like Merthyr Tydfil seeing as much as 20% drop in house
00:19prices over the last year.
00:21Over the same period from June 2023 until June 2024, Bridgend has seen an 11% increase,
00:28now at an all-time high, with Ceredigion seeing an 8% rise in prices, showing the disparity
00:33between counties across Wales.
00:35The average houses in Wales now cost somewhere in the region of £230,000 to £240,000, which
00:41is lower than it was at the end of 2022, when they reached an all-time record at almost
00:45£250,000.
00:48Across Wales, the cheapest region to buy a house is in Merthyr Tydfil, at just £140,000,
00:52compared to the most expensive in Monmouthshire, at almost double that of roughly £360,000.
