00:00All right, good morning. We'll go ahead and get started. I'll give you the information I have in terms of availability for practice
00:06Got a few injuries and a couple guys on veteran rest days today
00:10So we'll start with the injuries Mike Edwards O-line Mike Edwards is in concussion protocol. He'll be out
00:16Mike Edwards the safety has a hamstring
00:20and he'll be week to week and
00:22Then wide receiver chase Claypool has a toe and he's day to day
00:30The veteran rest days will be for Von Miller Matt Milano and Taryn Johnson
00:40Yeah, no it is it's it's a part of the game
00:44On one hand the other part is in order to get the scheme down the way you need to get it down
00:49you need to be out there and
00:51But Mike Mike's a pro. He's been around it before so I'm sure he'll you know
00:55Do his best to stay up as best as best he can on the mental end of things here in the scheme
00:59I know there's only so much you can take from the first couple of days
01:01You guys are ramping up, but what have you seen from Cole Bishop?
01:05And what are you hoping to see from him with the past?
01:07I mean, I think that one of the bigger things I've seen and one of the bigger things you hope for is
01:13Growth over the course of the break meaning it was clear
01:18It's been clear that he that he put time in
01:21On the mental end of things with the scheme and mastering the scheme and he still has a lot of work to do
01:27But he's he's improving in that area is improving with his with his understanding of the how necessary it is at that position to communicate
01:36And get everybody lined up and on the same page. How much would you say the evaluation really begins now?
01:42Yeah, I mean we have those four or five days whatever it was of ramp up days and now we're into pads
01:48And this is now we're playing the real game. So
01:52the techniques and fundamentals
01:55You know some of that still doesn't change we've been working on those and it's important that those carry forward today when we're in pads
02:12Great question. So today will be new. He's never played the game before in pads in particular and
02:20So today will be a new
02:22Challenge and and I'm sure he'll learn a lot in this first practice
02:27You know you carry over some things from from what he's done
02:30I'm sure but not not in pads and not in our game of American football
02:44Yes, similarly similar to Travis it's growth it's you know, what is is tomorrow better than today today's a
02:52call it a
02:54Mulligan if you will just for those two guys because you know, it's just
02:58It's new and it'll be like kind of getting hit by a wave
03:03You know, like it's gonna come fast and and probably pretty physical. So
03:08It'll be new for him
03:11He's back yes
03:16And now it's not and I'm sure the beginning it was a bigger adjustment
03:20Pass that or do you still make
03:23Wish for those days a little bit. I
03:26Understand why I understand the reason why the NFL
03:31Mandates it the way they have over the last couple of years. We quite honestly we
03:35We were ahead of that, you know our sports science
03:38Department really let us in that in that regard and it makes sense. It makes a lot of sense Mike with
03:44Ramping people up the right way
03:46I mean if you just go back to all the unfortunate situations that have occurred and not just in the NFL, but
03:51you know all through
03:53False sports right or any sport for that matter. So doing it the right way physically
03:59with with the players endurance as well, and so
04:03You know, that's the goal today is not to go out there and in and beat the crap out of each other
04:08It's to to go about it the right way
04:10The announcement came during during the break, but your session with Steelers the advantages of doing that and
04:18No having done it with them in the past the familiarity of what what do you think of the advantages and how much does it help?
04:29Yeah, no, I'm Mike is big the only other time we've done it was with was with Ron Rivera and Kevin rounds with Carolina
04:36if you recall a few years ago, so
04:38But that
04:40that
04:42Respect that I have for Mike in this case and Ron as well a few years ago
04:46Those practices can get heated and if you can if you know who you're dealing with on the other side and who leads that team
04:54Automatically, there's a high level of trust and an understanding of hey, this is what we're trying to get done
04:59this is what you're trying to get done and
05:02and then you can get done hopefully what you're trying to get done against somebody else other than your own team and
05:07One of the big benefits of it is when you have a young team like we do and some new faces to
05:12allow our personnel department to evaluate in in those situations where it's not just
05:19Going against the same defense the same offense. It's a new offense new defense in a different environment
05:25And so it's it offers a good evaluation
05:28Situation as well
05:37A good energy smart football player
05:41You know very professional early on in his approach
05:45today
05:46Today is when it changes a little bit to some extent for the for the old line and the D line
05:51so
05:53And and I would I would you know venture to say for for most rookies as well where it's you know
05:59When you go from it tears up like when you're in college
06:03Coming from high school it tears up and then the same thing here is it tears up
06:08college to the NFL first practice and it'll ratchet up again and first preseason game the first regular season game and
06:15On through the playoffs and the Super Bowl. That's that's how it ramps up and it's it's faster. It's more physical
06:23you know, there's
06:24There's some grown men out there that are they're trying to put food on there on the table for their families
06:30Tyrell shavers
06:33Say again Tyrell shavers. Yeah, very impressed
06:37Even if you go back to his rookie season
06:39his he's so consistent and
06:43Even when he wasn't playing with his approach one of the first one of the first players in the building one of the last to leave
06:50Knows what we're doing
06:54offensively
06:55systematically and I mean he's
06:59you know when you when you look up consistent in the in the
07:02Dictionary like his his his face shows up in my mind because he's so consistent and at a young age
07:09I have a lot of respect and appreciation for that
07:19Yeah
07:22It's to be expected but an increased focus from a year ago
07:26Increased urgency
07:29And really just getting back to
07:33What he what he was again, and you know, it's to be expected again with respectfully of the situation that he went through. So
07:39It's fun watching him have fun out there
07:42And I think he's he's been able to do that and and you can tell he he means business
07:52Each day he's gotten better
07:55And that's to be expected as well and met such such an elite
08:00Mental competitor that he's not shaken by much and
08:05It's just been fun to watch him every day get a little bit more comfortable still knowing that he's not
08:11Where he wants to be but it that eventually it'll it'll be back
08:17Dionne included felt that he had his best season last year. What are you hoping to see from him this year as he takes another step?
08:23Dionne
08:25Yeah, he's he's so good. He's such a big part of what we do his his energy day-to-day
08:33His leadership in the way that he helps lead our football team I count on that, you know
08:37I mean, he's he's been to multiple Pro Bowls. I think probably the biggest thing is just the consistent
08:44consistent
08:47Finishing of plays right and that's I mean I
08:50I
08:52Think that that's probably the biggest thing
08:55That I could ask of him because he's so good so special to our football team and to me
09:00Just a consistent consistent finishing of plays more than anything
