00:00Like many of my colleagues, I am concerned about artificial intelligence generated deepfakes
00:07in the context of political speech and election administration.
00:12But the Protect Elections from Deceptive AI Act is not a solution to this problem.
00:19The bill recycles provisions from the Partisan For the People Act.
00:24It is overly broad, and it would prohibit the distribution of political ads
00:29that include AI-generated audio or visuals, including commonly used image and video editing programs.
00:39It greatly expands the regulation of protected speech
00:43and uses vague terms that will inevitably chill that speech.
00:48This bill does not balance First Amendment rights
00:53with the evolving challenges that we have with the digital age.
00:59And therefore, Madam President, I object.
