Marine DG charged with deceiving predecessor

Malaysian Marine Department (JLM) director-general Captain Mohamad Halim Ahmed was charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Thursday (Aug 1) with cheating, resulting in shipping companies bringing heavy-grade oil into Malaysian waters without the approval of the Transport Minister four years ago.

00:25Division at the Ministry of Transport, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Judge Datuk
00:31Anita Harun. He was accused of deceiving his predecessor, then JLM Director-General Datuk
00:37Baharin Abdul Hamid, at the Marine Headquarters in Port Klang on October 27, 2020. The charge,
00:45framed under Section 417 of the Penal Code, provides for a jail term of up to five years
00:51or a fine or both upon conviction. The court allowed bail at RM20,000 with one surety
00:58and fixed October 7 for mention. The accused was ordered to surrender his passport to the
01:04court, to report himself at the Selangor MACC office once a month and to not intimidate
01:09prosecution witnesses.
