00:00Uh, hello, Rob Ninkovich.
00:03What's up, guys?
00:04We're talking fights.
00:05Yes.
00:06I like that.
00:07Yes.
00:08Did you?
00:09Wiggy knows.
00:10Wiggy knows this too.
00:11When you get in a fight, you're usually tired, right?
00:14You're usually tired.
00:15So I have, I was in a couple of fights in my, in my career.
00:20One with Ryan Wendell.
00:21If you remember Ryan, he was a center guard, um, you know, good player.
00:25So this was training camp, I think maybe 2012.
00:30And so I had a beard at the time, still have a beard, but maybe a little bit longer.
00:36Um, so Ryan was trying to hold me, which all offensive lineman's do.
00:41They hold.
00:43So when he held me from the top of my jersey, he had an actual piece of my beard in with
00:50his hand, with the gloves, the gloves are real sticky.
00:53So it hurts a lot when you pull like from double chin area, when you pull that hair,
01:01it's very painful.
01:02So my natural instinct was to take my right hand, but not, you don't ever punch with a
01:08fist because you could break your hand.
01:10Like what you just said, you palm strike, you use like the palm, the meteor palm.
01:15And I hit him as hard as I could on like his, on like the chin area of your helmet.
01:21Cause when you're, you're, it's all connected, right?
01:23So if you hit the corner of the helmet with where the face mask is, it rattles you up,
01:29you know, pretty good.
01:30So then he gets pissed and he, it takes him a second.
01:34Cause I think I startled it.
01:35Like I actually probably stunned them a little bit.
01:37And um, he's looking at me and I'm looking at him and then we just go after each other.
01:41Right.
01:42So I'm grabbing his face.
01:43He's grabbing my face.
01:44And when you both lock up, it's like a power struggle of who's stronger.
01:48Um, and I was pretty strong at the time, not anymore.
01:51But, um, so bill being bill, you idiots, you know, screaming at us, get out of here.
02:00Take a lap.
02:01Go take a lap.
02:02So I have to run around the field and I'm pissed off still, but I'm also very tired
02:08because you're tired.
02:10You're tired before you fight.
02:12Then when you fight, you get really tired because it's fighting and you're using every
02:16muscle.
02:17And then you're running a lap.
02:18Okay.
02:19So I'm the defensive lineman.
02:21I'm saying to myself, I can't let, I can't let an offensive lineman lap me or beat me
02:26on this lap.
02:27So I take off, I'm cruising and Ryan's trying to, he's trying to catch me.
02:31So he's trying to catch me, but I'm not letting him catch me.
02:34So I take the lap really fast, which is a mistake.
02:40So I get back, bill looks at me, he goes, go and get another lap, another lap.
02:44So I'm running two laps around the field.
02:47And then on the second lap, I caught a cramp on the side, cramp, like the fat kid cramp.
02:53And I get back in the second.
02:55I get back, bill blows the whistle two minute, no huddle get in.
03:01I learned a lesson.
03:02It was, it was the ultimate conditioning.
03:07It was, but it's also, it's just not worth it.
03:10Cause I don't like to run extra and I was running extra, but that was, that's the Ryan
03:14Wendell story.
03:16He did not.
03:17He was trying to chase me and he said the second lap killed him as well.
03:21And then we went to two, two minutes.
03:22I also fought a cannon, but I won't get into that story.
03:25That's, that's for when I'm on the show, that's a good story.
03:28Hey, Nick, we have a guy that I think you'll have fond memories of Matt Ryan joining us
03:33next hour and just, Oh, I love, Hey, that dude, I tell you what, I always figured he
03:38was not only a big, tall quarterback and look great.
03:42He always looks like he could come in a suit and tie and just come from the office.
03:46Right?
03:47When he was playing, he looks like he could do your taxes and throw a touchdown.
03:56Just from your perspective, being on the field and the greatest comeback in the history of
03:59the NFL.
04:00When did you think you had a shot to win that game?
04:05I mean, uh, so I think there was a, there was a moment there where the guys on PAT,
04:12the linemen on PAT were kind of celebrating a little too much with a lot of time left.
04:18And when they were, when they were celebrating, I thought, I thought to myself, I think these
04:24guys are going to relax a little bit and they let up just a little bit and there's momentum
04:30in football.
04:31So once they let up, the momentum shifted and they couldn't get back.
04:36So I think it was probably maybe the 28th point when they were celebrating, um, when
04:42they were kicking the PAT, I think they were probably thinking about the after party.
04:47What's your guess at what happens with Matthew Giudon, you think they pay him or you think
04:51they trade him?
04:53Oh, uh, I, it's never a good look when you have a confrontation public.
05:00So I don't know.
05:01We'll see what happens with that situation.
05:04Um, I think sitting on a garbage can when your teammates are practicing, isn't a good
05:10idea, but, uh, you know, at the end of the day, you have to look at long-term.
05:17I do believe he's going to be 32 years old.
05:20So if you sign him to an extension, what's that looking like?
05:23It's three years and I retired at 30.
05:26I didn't play at 33.
05:27I bet it's like a two year deal is probably what he's looking for.
05:31But then he's 34, you know, and he's coming off a bicep tear and wiggy, you know, this,
05:35and I mean, even Mayo Mayo knows this, he played six years and then he was back to back,
05:40you know, soft tissue injuries.
05:41So it's like, you don't know when that happens.
05:45Sometimes it's when you're in your thirties.
05:46So you, you know, I, it all depends on what that player is looking for.
05:51I am sure if he was seeking some compensation that wasn't top of the market, that would
05:56probably be done.
05:59Because when it comes to him doing it publicly, like you said, and it not being a good look,
06:04is that something that guys feel entitled to do because Bill isn't there any longer?
06:13You know, I, I personally always wanted to keep things behind closed doors.
06:19And when you, when you start talking about, um, you know, putting it out there, I think
06:26it puts more pressure on the relationship, which it's, it should be a relationship where
06:33I'm the player.
06:35I go out and play, I produce, and then it's reciprocated.
06:40But the problem is when you're coming off an injury, that's really hard to look at futures
06:47because every everybody's paid off of potential.
06:50It's not what your production is.
06:51So I, I don't care what the last three years look like.
06:55I don't care because it doesn't matter.
06:57That's all in the past.
06:58And, you know, moving forward for this team, you know, they have, they have a bunch of
07:04holes to fill.
07:05They got to figure out, you know, offensively their identity.
07:09So you know, what's the, what's the most important part of this Patriot camp?
07:15That's chemistry starting over, right?
07:20Forgetting about the past, the past is over.
07:22It's not going to help you.
07:23So, you know, this is a situation where you have to just say, yo, man, like we're trying
07:28to build a culture here.
07:29We're trying to start a new thing with a new head coach.
07:32You got, are you in or are you out?
07:34You know, that's, that would be my stance.
07:35Rob, the announcement that Bill and Underdog are going to do a show together.
07:40Does that push you in any direction that this could be it for Bill when it comes to coaching?
07:44Uh, you know, I think it depends on what he feels during the season.
07:49Um, you know, it's always great the first months or two you're out and you're doing
07:55whatever you want, but you know, in October, December come around and you're, you know,
08:01breaking down film and people don't understand what you're saying.
08:04They're like, why don't you just, you know, lessen the, lessen down some of the, the cover
08:09two, cover three, you know, dual coverage stuff.
08:11Cause people don't understand what you're saying.
08:13You might get a little frustrated with that, but you know, it's, everyone's different,
08:16you know, everyone's got a different thing that makes them tick.
08:20So for, for Bill, I assume that coaching players is his passion and you know, the TV thing
08:28for me personally, yeah, it's, I mean, it's, it's okay, but it's not like being on a team
08:33of being a head coach for a team.
08:36It's there's nothing comparable to it.
08:38All right, Rob.
08:39Thanks for calling.
08:40I believe that we will see you in person for the fifth birthday celebration of this program
08:47a week from tomorrow at Sam Adams taproom.
08:50Is that correct?
08:51You will be our guest that morning.
08:52That is correct.
08:53Yes.
08:54Be our guest.
08:55Okay.
08:56Bring that lovely Corvette.
08:57I was just going to say that new, no, that new truck you got is very cool.
09:00Oh, you're the 97 F two 50.
09:03Yeah.
09:04That one's beauty.
09:05I found that in Pennsylvania, an old man named Dale had that one for many years and a 50,000
09:10miles on it.
09:11So it's like a little time capsule.
09:13It's got tapes in there to sets.
09:15Remember those wiki?
09:16I remember those.
09:17I remember the cassette.
09:18Pepper.
09:19You had the salt and pepper cassette tape.
09:20No, I didn't think I had salt and pepper.
09:23Maybe I LL Cool J or Slick Rick.
09:25Okay.
09:26What was it?
09:27You're like, you know, push it.
09:28Yep.
09:29Little ice cube.
09:30Ah, definitely ice cube.
09:32What's the Corvette?
09:33That's it.
09:34I don't know.
09:35Nico put a picture on IG and it was this beautiful Corvette.
09:41Was it a Corvette?
09:42Yeah.
09:43Was it a Corvette?
09:44Or did I see you also post the Ferrari?
09:45Oh, that's not my Corvette.
09:46Oh, that's not mine.
09:47I'm not claiming Ferrari.
09:48All right.
09:49You know, I didn't make, I didn't make bill money, so I'm not driving the Ferrari.
09:53You posted one, like a blue one, right?
09:55Yeah.
09:56Blue.
09:57That's my buddy.
09:58Yeah.
09:59That's what I mean.
10:00Yeah.
10:01He's got baseball money and not football money.
10:02Okay.
10:03He's guaranteed.
10:04Yeah.
10:05He's good then.
10:06It's always good to have a buddy who has a Ferrari.
10:07It is.
10:08And a boat.
