00:00Thanks a lot, Kareem.
00:01When the President announced two Sundays ago
00:04that he's withdrawing from the race
00:07and that he's not running for another term,
00:09there were some that described him as a lame-duck President.
00:13How does this news today, this joyous news at the White House,
00:17answer those critics describing President Biden in that fashion?
00:20Well, I'm glad you call it joyous news because it is.
00:22This is very, very good news.
00:24For all of us as Americans,
00:26we should be very proud of this moment.
00:28Look, I've heard the term lame-duck.
00:29I was asked at the podium if he is a lame-duck President.
00:33We've been very clear that he's not,
00:34and today is an example of that.
00:37What he did on Monday, talking about SCOTUS reform,
00:39is an example of that.
00:41The President is determined, and he is very focused,
00:44along with the Vice President, to get things done,
00:46to build on the accomplishments
00:48that we have been able to deliver for the American people
00:51in over the last three and a half years,
00:52and these are historic accomplishments.
00:54Whether it's the American Rescue Plan
00:55that turned the economy around, restarted the economy,
00:58now we're leading in the world on that.
01:01Again, no Republicans voted for the American Rescue Plan.
01:03You think about the inflation reduction gap,
01:05no Republican voted for that,
01:06and that is a piece of legislation
01:09that has seen the biggest investment in climate change.
01:12Now Medicare can actually negotiate with Big Pharma,
01:16something that elected officials have been trying to do,
01:19and he reached across the aisle to get infrastructure done,
01:22to get the Chips and Science Act done,
01:25to get the veterans, the PACT Act done.
01:27So it doesn't end there. It doesn't end there for him.
01:31He wants to see a lot of these important laws now.
01:35He wants to get them, make sure they're implemented.
01:38And we're going to continue to use the remainder of this term
01:43to look for ways to build on that progress.
01:46And we will certainly share with you the specifics of that
01:49as we continue these next six months.
01:54And secondly, yesterday I asked a series of questions
01:57to you about the possibility of a hostage deal.
02:00At the time that I asked you those questions,
02:03were you aware?
02:04Yes.
02:04You were. You were aware?
02:06And so, given that,
02:07you just didn't want to answer that truthfully,
02:10you didn't want to spoil the process of the transfer of hostages?
02:14I said I had nothing to share.
02:15You have to understand, you have to understand,
02:19this is a critical, as these things are moving,
02:23it is important, our main focus is to make sure
02:26that we get these Americans home safely.
02:30I would hope, as a journalist, you understand that.
02:34It is important that they get home safely.
02:36That is our number one priority.
02:38Number one priority.
02:41And now that they are on their way home,
02:44the families were here.
02:46The families, the President, the Vice President,
02:47will get to greet these Americans
02:49when they land here tonight.
02:52This is a huge, huge, monumentous day,
02:55emotional day, and it is important.
02:58That is our goal, to make sure that they get home safely.
03:02All right, thanks, everybody.
