00:00Thanks, Karine.
00:01Last night, the President said he's been talking to the Vice President about her potential
00:05running mate.
00:06Could you just explain how often they've been talking to each other, and when's the last
00:10time they spoke?
00:11So, I'm going to be super careful, I'm not going to speak to the running mate or anything
00:19like that.
00:20I'm not going to go beyond what the President shared.
00:23What I can say is, and I have said this before, the President and the Vice President talk
00:28regularly.
00:29They actually spoke about a day or two ago.
00:33They stay in touch, and that's going to continue, not just because, obviously, the Vice President
00:41is running, but that's going to continue because, as I said, she's a critical partner in what
00:45they do.
00:46But they do speak regularly, and I can assure you.
00:48Is there any color you could add about the kind of conversations, if there's counseling
00:54the President, advice he's been sharing with his Vice President?
00:59So, I'll say this.
01:01The President has been in the public service, as you know, for more than 54 years as a Senator,
01:07as Vice President.
01:08He had the role, as you all know, for eight years as Vice President, and now he is President
01:13for three and a half years and six more months of his term.
01:19And I think as a leader of the Democratic Party as well, I think he always offers up
01:28advice, any type of little bit of wisdom that he has with experience on these multiple fronts
01:36that he's been able to lead this country.
01:39And so, you know, I think that is certainly a role that he plays as well with the Vice
01:43President.
01:44I'm not going to speak to the campaign, but certainly when the Vice President became Vice
01:49President herself, he offered his advice, his opinion, and also I would say was a mentor
01:56to her, but certainly not going to go beyond that.
01:59And where is the President when it comes to picking a new Secret Service Director?
02:03Is this a very short list?
02:04Is he really broadening this search?
02:06Yeah, I think I was asked this question yesterday or very recently.
02:09Look, the President understands how important it is to fulfill this role, to have someone
02:16who's experienced, and so he's taking this very seriously, like he does any other appointment
02:21that he makes within the administration.
02:24We don't have anything for you on timing, on timeline, we don't have a personal announcement
02:29for you today, but certainly the President's taking this very seriously, and when we have
02:33locked in someone ready to make that announcement, certainly you all will know about it.
