00:00The Kuala Lumpur High Court has ordered preacher Zamri Vinod Kalimudu to pay activist Arun

00:07Dorasamy and lawyer Siti Qasim 100,000 ringgit each in damages for a defamatory statement

00:13he made about them.

00:15Justice Johan Lee made the orders in a joint counterclaim brought by Arun and Siti against

00:21Zamri after finding that the preacher had defamed them by calling them anti-Islam.

00:27In the main action brought by Zamri against Arun in 2020, the judge found that Arun had

00:32defamed the preacher by linking him to a rape case and ordered Arun to pay Zamri 100,000

00:37ringgit in damages.

00:40In respect of the counterclaim, Johan said Zamri had failed to justify why he called

00:45Arun and Siti anti-Islam.

00:48Johan said such serious labelling could only come from those in authority and none has

00:53ever decreed or announced this, adding that no religious scholars were called to testify

00:58on the matter.

01:00In addition, the court also ordered both Zamri and Arun to tender their respective apologies

01:04to one another on their social media accounts and in newspapers within 30 days from today.
