00:00 The federal government must ensure that Sabah receives its full 40% net revenue entitlement
00:08 as a special grant under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
00:13 This is what former Sabah Law Society President Roger Chin said in a statement today, stressing
00:19 that Sabahans deserve transparency and genuine financial empowerment.
00:24 He was responding to a statement by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim yesterday that the
00:30 RM16 billion federal allocation for Sabah this year would be far more than the promised
00:34 40% entitlement.
00:36 Chin said Anwar's statement was worrying because it seemed to have covered up the real financial
00:41 needs and rights of the state.
00:44 He said the RM16 billion allocation is intended for various projects in the state, while the
00:50 40% entitlement is a special grant that would be directly transferred to the state government.
00:56 Chin said the grant would allow the state to invest in its infrastructure, public services
01:02 and development initiatives as it sees fit.
01:06 He also said the federal government would be undermining Sabah's financial independence
01:10 if it decided not to honour the entitlement.
