Gresh & Fauria: Is there reason to be concerned about the secondary?

00:00I was a little worried about the secondary,
00:03but I think they're going to be OK because of the way
00:07they end up using their safeties.
00:09I think Marcus Jones is a slot corner,
00:13and if they don't whiz around with him,
00:17yeah, we'll get him on offense, or we'll get him returning,
00:20or whatever, and just let the guy be a corner,
00:24I think you got three pretty good guys that you
00:27can put out there as a base.
00:29Then your safety group, then the mix and match people
00:31with guys like Mapu's been dinged up a little bit.
00:34They're not great.
00:36I thought they were going to worry me coming out of camp,
00:39but I think they're competitive, they're relatively veteran,
00:42they sort of know what they're doing.
00:44I thought it might be a bigger issue for me.
00:47Yeah, I still think it could be a very big issue.
00:50I think first and foremost, we need to remember,
00:53every rep you've seen those guys take
00:57has been against the 32nd ranked wide receiver unit.
01:01The worst group of receivers you could cover.
01:03According to who?
01:05I don't know, Warren Sharpe or some people on the internet.
01:07People on the internet are saying.
01:09The interwebs are saying.
01:11The internet is reporting that the Patriots wide receivers.
01:14And my assessment that Taequann Thornton's done a good job,
01:17like when I see him toasting Christian Gonzalez
01:20in one-on-ones, that doesn't make me feel great.
01:23Jonathan Jones, I think, is a very good cornerback.
01:27I still think he's best suited in the slot.
01:30I wish he was the slot guy, because your slot corner
01:34is now a starter in the league.
01:36You have to look at it that way.
01:38I think Marcus Jones has plenty to prove as a cornerback.
01:42I also wish he, I agree with you, I think at his best,
01:45he's probably a slot corner.
01:47I wish he wasn't.
01:48I wish he was a developmental number two outside corner.
01:52Like if he had four more inches of height,
01:54then you could start to think about being able to play him
01:56on the outside.
01:57And then I'd be like, he's not great,
01:59but he's your number two.
02:00You're counting on Gonzalez.
02:01Can he be good enough to be your number two
02:03with a veteran slot next to him?
02:05All of that.
02:05Like Marcus Jones is quick.
02:07He is quick.
02:08And that's the in-between the field stuff's going to be quick
02:10and you need that guy.
02:11Now he chases.
02:12We'll see.
02:13I think he needs to learn some of the tricks of the trade
02:15and like the tie law, when to grab the jersey,
02:17when to not, when to keep yourself.
02:18Call Malcolm Butler, the master of the trail.
02:21Yes.
02:22So I think there's some of that.
02:23And then beyond that, there's a lot of questions.
