00:23Thank you.
00:24Thank you.
00:25How nice of you. Thank you very much.
00:27Hello, everybody. Welcome to Card Sharks.
00:29Today, you can win a fortune on the turn of a single card.
00:32And you'll see what I mean
00:33because when we left off last time,
00:35we were ready to play the big money cards
00:37with our champion, Mickey.
00:38So, that's where we'll pick it up today.
00:40And let's bring our champ out here right now.
00:42Come on, Mickey.
00:46Oh, cheer up.
00:49There's happy times with this lady.
00:51But sad times for us too
00:53because the CBS rules say that you can only play
00:55the big money cards five times.
00:57This will be your fifth time,
00:58so we have to say goodbye to you right now.
01:00However, so far, we're saying goodbye to her
01:02with $24,000.
01:03And who knows what will happen
01:04in the next couple of minutes, right?
01:06Right.
01:08So, what we're going to do right now,
01:10first of all, I want to introduce
01:11our two lovely ladies who help us every day
01:13on Card Sharks.
01:14This is Susanna Williams and Lacey Pepperton.
01:16Good morning, ladies.
01:18Now, Susanna and Lacey,
01:19they have a deck of cards that you cut
01:21before we went on the air.
01:22And we're going to start right off
01:23with our big money cards.
01:24And remember, the money you've won so far
01:25is yours to keep no matter what happens.
01:26But now, we're going to give you
01:27new money to bet with.
01:28Starts in the bottom line with $200.
01:30You bet your way across the line
01:31by calling off high and low.
01:32When you get to the second line,
01:34we'll give you another $400 of betting money.
01:36At that time, you bet your way across the line.
01:38Remember, minimum bets are $50 each
01:40until you get up to the top row.
01:41And up there, you must bet at least
01:43half of your dollars.
01:44Also, you'll have the opportunity, Mickey,
01:46to change one card per line
01:47by choosing one of the spare cards
01:49that Susanna's dealing out right now.
01:51You understand, don't you?
01:52I sure do.
01:53Go get them, kid.
01:54We're going to say goodbye to you after this.
01:55$200, please.
01:56You got it.
01:57Here we go.
01:58Now, let's see what happens.
01:59You can turn that $200 into thousands of dollars
02:02if you play your cards right.
02:03Let's see how they roll.
02:04Here's your first one.
02:05It's a queen.
02:06$150, lower.
02:07$150, lower than the queen.
02:09It's a 4.
02:10You've got $350.
02:11$300, higher.
02:12$300, higher than the 4.
02:14It's a 7.
02:15Player change.
02:16Take that card.
02:17It's number 2.
02:18She's going to get rid of the 7.
02:19Number 2 spare card.
02:20One card per line.
02:21It is an 8.
02:22Got to play it now.
02:23It's a 650.
02:24I'll go $50, lower.
02:25$50, lower than the 8.
02:27The 8s have plagued you, haven't they?
02:29Let's see.
02:30Not this time.
02:31Now, you got $700.
02:32We'll bring this card up here.
02:34We give you another $400.
02:35Gives you $1,100.
02:36The 6 is your base, and you can play it,
02:38or you can change it.
02:39Change that card with number 3.
02:41Number 3.
02:42All right, Mickey.
02:43The 6 is now an 8.
02:44There they are again.
02:45$1,100.
02:46That's a hard card.
02:47$100, lower.
02:49$100, lower than the 8.
02:51Your card is a king.
02:52A king.
02:53Okay.
02:54Now, you got $1,000.
02:55I'll go $900, lower.
02:56$900, lower than the king.
02:58It's a king.
02:59All right.
03:00$1,900.
03:01$1,900, higher.
03:03Of course.
03:04There you are.
03:05$5, $3,800.
03:07That goes up here.
03:08Now, with $3,800, you must bet at least $1,900.
03:12You can play it, or you can change it.
03:14I'm going to change that card with number 1.
03:16Number 1.
03:17Okay.
03:18The 5 is now a queen.
03:20A queen.
03:21$3,800.
03:22$3,800.
03:23Got to bet at least $1,900.
03:24Okay.
03:25I'm going to go $3,000, lower.
03:27$3,000, lower than the queen.
03:30Oh, come on.
03:31Yes.
03:32If it is, it'll be another $6,800 to your total.
03:35You'll be over $30,000.
03:37Is it lower than the queen?
03:38Yeah.
03:39Yes, it is.
03:40Oh, come on.
03:41Oh, come on.
03:46Oh, my God.
03:59Give her a kiss, will you, please?
04:02Isn't that amazing how many friends you get
04:05when you win $31,000?

07:29And like we said, we had to say goodbye to Mickey,
07:31so we're going to meet two new Card Sharks.
07:33And here they come right now.
07:35Come on, gang.
07:36Welcome.
07:41I know you cut the cards before the show.
07:43Lacey's dealing those cards out while we talk to you.
07:46Hello, Dennis. You won the toss of the coin.
07:47You're standing in the champion spot.
07:49Hi, Bob. How you doing? I'm fine.
07:50I'm Dennis DiReccio, a native from the Philippines.
07:52And I came here to sunny California
07:54to fulfill three dreams.
07:55What are they?
07:56I wanted to get a good education at UCLA.
07:58How you doing?
07:59So far, so good.
08:00What's the other one?
08:01The other one is to appear in a major television game show.
08:03What's the other one?
08:04And the third one is to capture
08:06the elusive California girl.
08:16She's already been captured, Dennis.
08:18But never stop me.
08:19And the one next to you is expecting.
08:21I'm captured, too.
08:23So just watch yourself while you're on our stage, will you?
08:27Nice to have you with us.
08:28And this is the challenger.
08:29Hello, Judy.
08:30Hi, Bob. I'm Judy Cabrera
08:32from Denver, Colorado.
08:33Judy, who?
08:34Cabrera.
08:35Cabrera. All right.
08:36Yes. C-A-B-R-E-R-A, to be exact.
08:38I can spell that.
08:39And I have a wonderful husband, Ron,
08:41and three children at home.
08:42And I brought one with me for good luck.
08:44Isn't that nice?
08:45Yeah.
08:46This will be number four.
08:47Yeah.
08:48How many are you going to have?
08:49Well, I can never say never anymore
08:51because you never know what's going to happen,
08:53but we're planning four right now.
08:55Well, that's good.
08:56And happy with it.
08:57Good that you're planning four.
08:58I'm glad you're not planning five.
08:59You'd be walking a little funnier
09:00than you were walking right now, wouldn't you?
09:02Okay, you know how to play this game?
09:03The object of our game is to work your way
09:04across the board by predicting whether each card
09:06is higher or lower than the one preceding it.
09:08But before you can start calling high-low cards,
09:10you must win our high-low toss-up question.
09:12And the first one will go to Dennis,
09:13and we're ready to play.
09:14Here we go.
09:15Dennis, we surveyed 100 women, and we asked them,
09:18have you ever had a broken heart?
09:20How many women said that they have?
09:23Bob, I feel not very qualified to answer that question
09:25because I've never had a girlfriend
09:27or anybody's heart to break.
09:28Oh!
09:31What do you think the problem is, Dennis?
09:35I don't have enough money. That's why I'm here.
09:36Oh, I see.
09:38We'll get you some money, then we can get you a girlfriend.
09:41I think, Bob, that number is going to be a high one
09:45because here in America, my gosh,
09:46everybody just goes out with everybody
09:49and sleeps with everybody.
09:50Gosh, it's so heartbreaking.
09:52So, I'll say about...
09:53See, that's your problem, Dennis.
09:57About 80.
09:5880 out of 100 women said they've had a broken heart.
10:00Jenny, will it be higher or lower than 80?
10:03From experience, I think that you sometimes just feel like
10:07almost everybody who's had a boyfriend
10:09at some time when they're single
10:10has probably broken up with the same boyfriend
10:12at least at one point or another.
10:14And I think everybody's probably experienced that
10:16as far as women.
10:17I'm going to say the number is a little bit higher than that.
10:19Higher than 80.
10:21The actual number of women who have had a broken heart is 86.
10:25You were right, Jenny. It was higher.
10:27All right, let's play these cards.
10:28Now, because you won the high-low question,
10:30you can change the base card if you want to.
10:32Let's see if you want to, though. It's a 7.
10:33I'm going to change that card, Bob.
10:35Let's get rid of that old, ugly card.
10:36The 7 now becomes a 9.
10:38Not much better, but you got a 4.
10:39All right, I'm going to go lower, Bob.
10:40Lower than the 9, your card is a jack.
10:42No.
10:43That means that Dennis gets a free shot at the cards.
10:46Dennis, you have to play off of this card.
10:47Your card is a 3. Good one.
10:49Let's go higher. Higher than the 3.
10:52It's a jack.
10:53Lower. Lower than the jack.
10:54It's a 6.
10:56Play or freeze?
10:58Freeze. He's going to freeze.
10:59I thought he'd go on.
11:01See, there's your problem, Dennis.
11:02You don't take any gambles, that's all.
11:05No, you freeze on that 6.
11:07That keeps your lead.
11:08If you win the next high-low question,
11:10you'll have a chance to change that one.
11:11Judy, here's the question.
11:12Surveyed 100 men, we asked them,
11:15if you got an obscene phone call from a woman,
11:18would you stay on the phone and listen?
11:20Yes.
11:23You weirdos out there in the audience.
11:27How many men said that they would listen, Judy?
11:30Wow, I would say that they might be a little bit curious,
11:33and so it'd be pretty tempting.
11:35It might be.
11:37I'm going to say that the number is somewhere in the middle.
11:39I'm going to say about 60.
11:41About 60 would actually stay on the line and listen.
11:45I mean, do we have to ask Dennis this question?
11:49Bob, I'm praying for that phone call.
11:51Yeah, I know you are.
11:52Who are they?
11:55Can I give my number on the air?
11:56Yeah, go ahead. No, don't do it.
11:59I would say, unfortunately, not all men are like me,
12:04and some men are so...
12:05You mean weird?
12:06Maybe.
12:07I'd say it's going to be a little bit lower.
12:09You think it's going to be lower?
12:10Yes.
12:11Do you really?
12:12See, Dennis, there's your problem.
12:14The actual number of men who would listen
12:16to the obscene phone call is 79.
12:19Not lower, it was higher.
12:23Dennis would probably hang up, say, wrong number.
12:27All right, Judy, now you won the high-low,
12:29so you can get rid of the nine, or you can play the nine.
12:31Oh, I'm going to change the card.
12:34Change that nine. I thought sure you'd do that.
12:36The nine is now a queen.
12:37All right.
12:39I would say lower.
12:40Lower than the queen, your card is a 10.
12:41All right, I'm going to go lower.
12:43Lower than the 10, it is an eight.
12:44Now you do.
12:45Freeze on the eight.
12:47All right, by freezing right there,
12:48keeps Dennis away from the cards this time.
12:50And we'll go to a commercial,
12:51and we'll be right back to finish this game.
12:53So, don't you guys go away, and don't you go away.
12:55We'll be right back.
12:57-♪♪
13:05-♪♪
13:25-♪♪
13:55-♪♪
14:25-♪♪
14:55-♪♪
15:25Game number one, all tied up, two cards for each of you.
15:28In order to win this game,
15:29the next high-low question goes to Dennis.
15:31And here's our first, or this question, Dennis.
15:33We surveyed 100 women who were engaged to be married.
15:37And we asked them,
15:38did you help pay for your own engagement ring?
15:41How many engaged women said that they did chip in?
15:45Oh, Bob, I would never do that.
15:47Back home in the Philippines, the man pays for it all.
15:51Here, I think the man would have enough criticism
15:52to give that present to a woman.
15:55So I'd say very few women paid for their engagement ring.
15:58About, I'd say...
15:59How many women said they did chip in?
16:0120.
16:0220 out of 100. Judy, do you think it'll be higher, lower,
16:03or 20?
16:05Well, I think it's going to be slightly lower
16:08because that's the ideal
16:09that the gentleman would pay for the ring.
16:11Sure, sounds like it. Sure. All right.
16:12The actual number of engaged women
16:14who helped pay for their engagement ring is 21.
16:17Not lower, not higher.
16:19What's this world coming to, huh, Dennis?
16:21Really.
16:22All right, Dennis, you froze on the 6.
16:23That means you won the high-low question.
16:24You can change that 6. I'll change the card.
16:26Let's see what this new card is.
16:28The 6 now becomes a queen.
16:30Yes. Let's go lower.
16:31Lower than the queen, your card is...
16:33Oh!
16:35Can you believe it?
16:37Judy, you get a free shot,
16:38but you got to play off the 8.
16:39What will it be?
16:41I'm going to say it's higher.
16:43Higher than the 8. Let's find out.
16:44Judy, it's a jack.
16:46I want lower, Bob.
16:48If it's lower than the jack, you win game number 1.
16:51Oh!
16:53Wow, you dealt out some tough cards, Lace.
16:55You know you did that.
16:56Okay, now, fourth and final question in this game.
16:58That means it's sudden death time.
17:00Someone must win the game on the next play of the cards,
17:03so control of the board is extremely important.
17:05The question is for you, Judy.
17:07We surveyed 100 single women and we asked them,
17:09have you ever turned down a marriage proposal
17:11from a millionaire?
17:14How many single women said they have turned down
17:16a marriage proposal from a millionaire?
17:20I don't know if it's where I come from,
17:21but I didn't think there were that many millionaires
17:23at my disposal.
17:25So, there weren't that many to propose to me.
17:27I'm going to say it's a fairly low number.
17:30A low number.
17:31I'm going to say it's 23.
17:3323 out of 100 single women said they have turned down
17:36a marriage proposal from a millionaire.
17:38If I win a million dollars here,
17:40they better not turn me down.
17:41Oh, I'm sure they won't, yes.
17:42And I said they.
17:44They, more than one, huh?
17:45I'd say it's got to be a little bit higher.
17:47Higher than that.
17:49Actual number of single women who have turned down
17:50a millionaire's proposal is 6.
17:53No, not higher, it was lower.
17:55Now, Judy, now you want to get rid of the 8?
17:58Remember this, this is sudden death times.
18:00You have two choices at this point.
18:02You can get rid of the 8 and play it out.
18:04But if you make a mistake, Dennis wins.
18:06Or you can pass it on to Dennis.
18:08He must play off the Queen.
18:09If he goofs, you win the game.
18:11So, what do you want to do?
18:13Play or pass?
18:15I knew.
18:16You know, that Queen is such a good card.
18:17I'm going to change my card and play it.
18:19Change your 8 and play it out.
18:20All right, good luck to you.
18:21The 8 now is a 3.
18:24I'm going to go higher.
18:25Higher than the 3, your card is...
18:27It's a lower.
18:29If it's lower, you'll win game number one.
18:32Yes!
18:33Yes!
18:34Yes!
18:35Yes!
18:36Yes!
18:37Yes!
18:38Oh!
18:39That's beautiful.
18:41There you go.
18:42Oh, I'm happy.
18:44That was an interesting decision you had to make.
18:46And it turned out to be the right decision.
18:48So, you win the first game, you've got $100.
18:50Remember, the first player to win two games
18:52wins the championship, plays the big money cards.
18:54And so, Lacey's going to start dealing out cards right now
18:56from that same deck.
18:57And let's begin.
18:58Game number two.
18:59Dennis, you got to win this one.
19:00Let's see how well you do with this question.
19:01We surveyed 100 lawyers
19:03who specialize in defending criminals.
19:05And we asked them,
19:06has a client who was acquitted of a crime
19:09later confessed to you that he really was guilty?
19:12How many lawyers said a client who was acquitted
19:15has confessed his guilt?
19:17My father is a lawyer.
19:19So, I have some inside information on this.
19:21Well, tell us about it.
19:22Well...
19:23Let us in on this.
19:24I think if a criminal is guilty,
19:26he'd keep his mouth shut till the end.
19:28So, I'd say it's a low number like...
19:29This is after he's acquitted.
19:30I want to make sure you know that.
19:31After he's acquitted?
19:32Yes.
19:33I'd still say it'd be pretty low.
19:34About 40.
19:3640 out of 100.
19:37Oh!
19:38Lawyers said a client who was acquitted
19:39confessed his guilt.
19:40Judy, will it be higher or lower than 40?
19:42I think if I were a criminal and acquitted,
19:44I'd be so happy to relieve myself of guilt.
19:46I'd be so happy to relieve...
19:47I would keep my mouth shut.
19:48I'm going to say it's even lower.
19:49I agree with you.
19:50I don't know.
19:51We'll see.
19:52Actual number of lawyers who said a client
19:53who was acquitted has confessed his guilt is...
19:5537.
19:56Boy, it's just barely lower though, Judy.
19:58Okay.
19:59Judy, you have control again.
20:00This is game number two.
20:01Win this game, you're the champion.
20:02Let's find out.
20:03It's a five.
20:04I'm going to go higher, Bob.
20:05Going to go higher than the five.
20:06Chose to keep the card.
20:07It's a nine.
20:08You can play or you can quit.
20:09I'm going to go...
20:10Lower.
20:11She's going to go on.
20:12She didn't freeze on the nine.
20:13Lower than the nine.
20:16Higher, Bob.
20:17Higher than the deuce.
20:18It is a 10.
20:19I'm going to go for it.
20:20Higher.
20:21If it's higher, you're the new champion.
20:22Yes!
20:23Yes!
20:24Yes!
20:25Yes!
20:26Yes!
20:27Yes!
20:28Yes!
20:29Yes!
20:30Yes!
20:31Yes!
20:32Boy, why, Judy.
20:34Congratulations, Judy.
20:35Oh, it's great.
20:36Two games, $200.
20:37You're the champ.
20:38That means you get to play the big money cards.
20:40Dennis, we have some very nice prizes.
20:42I hope you find that girl you're looking for.
20:44Thank you very much for being with us.
20:45All right?
20:46Thank you.
20:47Judy, come over here.
20:48Thank you.
20:49Right over here, Judy.
20:50This is where the champions dance.
20:51Hi.
20:52Don't run, though.
20:53Don't run.
20:54It's all right.
20:55And don't get excited.
20:56Oh, absolutely.
20:57When are you due?
20:58When's this baby due?
20:59Another three months.
21:00Another three months.
21:01We've got lots of time.

24:28You ready to do this?
24:29I'm ready.
24:30You know what can happen?
24:31You can literally turn $200 into $32,000
24:34if things should happen to roll right for you.
24:36So, let's see what happens.
24:37The money you've won so far is yours to keep.
24:39But now, we're going to give you new money to bet with.
24:41We've got a new deck of cards that you cut
24:42before we went on the air.
24:44What starts in the bottom line,
24:45you bet your way across the board
24:46by calling off high and low.
24:48When you get to the second row,
24:49we'll add another $400 of betting money.
24:51You bet your way across the line again.
24:53And remember, minimum bets have to be $50 each.
24:55So, you get up there at the top.
24:56At that time, you must bet at least half of your dollars.
24:58Also, you'll have one opportunity on each line
25:00to change a card by choosing one of the spare cards
25:02that Susanna is dealing out right there.
25:04So, you understand all the rules?
25:05I do.
25:06You're a nice lady.
25:07I'd like to see you win lots of money.
25:08Thank you.
25:09Give her $200 to bet with.
25:10Will you please?
25:11Good luck, Judy.
25:12Here we go now.
25:13Okay.
25:14Excitement.
25:15Excitement, excitement.
25:16You ready?
25:17Here's your first card.
25:18It is a 5.
25:19I'm going to bet 150 higher.
25:20150 higher than the 5.
25:22Your card is a 7.
25:23All right.
25:24I'm going to change that card.
25:25Change the 7.
25:26Which one?
25:27Number 3.
25:28I have three children.
25:29Number 3.
25:30Let's see what your 7 becomes.
25:31The 7 is now an 8.
25:32Oh!
25:33350.
25:34Okay.
25:35All of it lower.
25:36All of it lower than the 8.
25:37Your card is a 5.
25:38All right.
25:39Oh!
25:40I'm going to go 600 higher.
25:43600 higher than the 5.
25:45It's a 7.
25:46Oh!
25:47Now, when we get up here, we give you another $400.
25:50You now have $1,700.
25:52The 7 is your base.
25:53And you can change it if you'd like.
25:54I want to change that card with number 1, please.
25:56Number 1.
25:57The 7 now is a 3.
25:59All right!
26:00And you've got $1,700.
26:02I'm going to bet 1,500 higher.
26:041,500 higher than the 3.
26:06It's a deuce.

26:08That's all right.
26:09It's okay.
26:10You've still got $200.
26:11I'm going to bet all of it higher.
26:12All of it higher than the deuce.
26:13Your card is a 9.
26:14All right.
26:15Now, 400.
26:16I'm going to bet...

26:28Brings you down to $150.
26:29That goes up here.
26:30And you've got $150.
26:31I'm going to bet all of it higher.
26:33Oh, I knew you would.
26:34Higher than the 3.
26:35It's a 5.
26:36Sure.
26:37That's $300.
26:38I'm glad.
26:39Oh!
26:40Oh, God!
26:41You're going to take it?
26:42Yeah.
