Motorway Cops Catching Britain's Speeders S06E03 (July 8 2024)
Transcript
00:00Have you found the drain yet?
00:06You're pushing it towards me, man.
00:10In Newcastle, PC Chris Kemp has swapped his car keys for a plunger.
00:15If we fail this, we'll kind of become like drain unblockers.
00:19We'll have to be policemen for the rest of our lives.
00:22Oh, it's clearing, man.
00:25Oh, it's just lush up, man.
00:27It's so satisfying.
00:28I feel a real sense of accomplishment here.
00:30I could watch this all night.
00:37Ta-da!
00:39Job done.
00:44UK police forces have been sent over 100,000 dashcam clips,
00:50exposing the most dangerous drivers on our roads.
00:54All hell has broken loose on our highways.
01:01You on a lesson? At least it wasn't your test.
01:04We join the motorway cops of Northumbria Police...
01:08Shall we gun? Why, aye, of course we're gunning.
01:11..as they drive criminals of the North East off the roads...
01:16Crash, crash, crash.
01:18..and put the deadliest drivers behind bars.
01:21Stand still, teaser!
01:24Want to tell us who you are?
01:26I'm a police officer. What do I look like? I'm in fancy dress.
01:28Do whatever you want. Do you want to arrest me? Do it.
01:31I'll let the floor down on you.
01:32I'm getting a little bit bored of you now.
01:33Jazz! Bunch of moppings.
01:35Helping them in their battle with idiots behind the wheel...
01:39..is dashcam.
01:41It's vital evidence...
01:43Does everyone have any dashcam at home?
01:45..and proof that Britain's dumbest drivers...
01:48Bloody idiots!
01:49..are a law unto themselves.
01:53Police 1, criminal nil.
02:05So, right, right, right, into a back lane.
02:07It's a night.
02:08Put your hands behind your back.
02:10A dangerous driver curses the cops.
02:13I'll punch you. Just stop it.
02:15Don't laugh like me.
02:16You're a big boy, aren't you?
02:19Right, blow, blow, blow.
02:21You're a sucker, you're a sucker.
02:23Terrible driving leaves one woman breathless.
02:26You made it look like hard work.
02:29Vehicle is off-road, off-road on a footpath.
02:31And suspects run...
02:33Chill out, I'm running.
02:35..but they can't hide.
02:37Get down on the ground now! Get down!
02:39SIREN WAILS
02:47Northumbria police have more than 3,800 officers
02:51laying down the law.
02:54But not all of them need a partner in crime.
03:00Team have won.
03:01I do like my own company.
03:03So, yeah, see what chaos we can cause.
03:05And at Follingsby station,
03:07PC Will Hunter is already ruffling a few feathers.
03:13This is the sergeant's car,
03:15which he doesn't know about.
03:17I love this car.
03:19It's definitely faster when I'm driving it.
03:23When our allocated car's not here,
03:25we're supposed to take the oldest car.
03:27Here's an older car that we could take,
03:29but we're not taking it.
03:31Sergeant will go mad when he realises
03:34Sergeant will go mad when he realises
03:36I've got his car.
03:40We'll be right.
03:42Ready to go?
03:56What the...?
03:58Oh, do you know what that was?
04:00My phone. Left my phone on the top of the car.
04:04Don't tell the lads that.
04:08Luckily I had a screen protector on it.
04:20South of the river,
04:22we're policing predominantly city centres and town centres.
04:25And you're looking for things like
04:27you drink drivers, people using their phones,
04:29bad driving.
04:31It could be anything.
04:33It could be anything.
04:40Clones, just hit.
04:42It's a cash guy.
04:47I'm heading over Tatley train, suitable vehicle.
04:53It could be a possible clone vehicle.
04:55It's obviously hit one of the cameras in the city centre.
04:59It'll tend not to be criminals using it
05:01to hide the fact that they're in a stolen car
05:03or people that haven't got a driving licence
05:05or no insurance or disqualified.
05:07So,
05:09we're heading down into the sun and see if we can get hold of it.
05:22So there's
05:24an inherent risk that
05:26clone vehicles for pursuit does sort of kick off.
05:29They might fail to stop.
05:33When criminal drivers make off,
05:35the consequences can be catastrophic.
05:45In Newcastle,
05:47heading east towards the town,
05:49the driver of a Golf on cloned plates
05:51is refusing to stop for Will's fellow motorway cops.
05:55He is overtaking.
05:57The suspect takes
05:59the pursuit into the city centre,
06:01putting other motorists in danger.
06:09The car mounts the pavement,
06:11forcing a pedestrian to dive for cover.
06:17Flying down the A1,
06:21the driver pushes innocent motorists
06:23out of the way.
06:27A terrifying
06:29car chase
06:31turns into a foot race
06:33when the car runs out of petrol.
06:39But the driver runs straight
06:41into the arms of waiting officers.
06:47He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving,
06:49driving while disqualified,
06:51driving without insurance
06:53and handling stolen goods.
06:55He received an 18-month suspended sentence,
06:57150 hours unpaid work
06:59and a three-month night curfew.
07:03He was banned from driving
07:05for two years.
07:15We're looking for a
07:17grey Nissan Qashqai.
07:21It hasn't hit anything else.
07:25Back in Sunderland,
07:27Will is on the hunt
07:29for a suspected cloned car.
07:35It's probably come down here
07:37or gone into the city centre.
07:41There is a number of avenues
07:43it could go around without
07:45hitting any other cameras or anything like that.
07:55It's just a game.
07:57It depends how long
07:59they're out playing that game.
08:01It's one of those times
08:03where if you move too far away
08:05from where the hits were
08:07or where you've been,
08:09it'll hit somewhere else.
08:19There it's.
08:25Tango 90.
08:27Good.
08:29I've got that Qashqai.
08:31It's northbound on Hilton Road.
08:33It's going to go
08:35into right, right, right
08:37into a back lane.
08:43Standby.
08:55There are more smashes
08:57on our roads
08:59than the Wimbledon final.
09:02With dodgy line calls
09:06and brake points,
09:09surely these drivers
09:11cannot be serious.
09:13Oh my God.
09:15Oh, spectacular.
09:17I've got that Qashqai.
09:19It's going to go
09:21into right, right, right
09:23into a back lane.
09:27Through the back alleys of Sunderland,
09:29Will is chasing a driver
09:31who is failing to stop.
09:35No pedestrians on the road,
09:37no other vehicles on the road.
09:39It's going to go
09:41right, right, right
09:43into a back lane.
09:46No pedestrians on the road,
09:48no other vehicles on the road.
09:50Destination is unknown.
09:52It's a left, left.
09:59It's a right, right, right
10:01into a back lane.
10:05Standby.
10:07It's a left, left, left.
10:11The vehicle has come to a stop.
10:16Put your hands behind your back.
10:18Put your hands behind your back or you're going to get gas.
10:22Right, jump in the back of the car.
10:24Now ensure I've got
10:26one male adult detained in cuffs.
10:28Right, you're under arrest
10:30on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop.
10:32Do you understand?
10:34Do you understand?
10:36Excellent. Jump in the back of the car.
10:38Take a seat in there for us, my mate.
10:40Take a seat in there.
10:42What's your name?
10:44Don't resist
10:46and don't try and push out of the car.
10:48Put it in.
10:50Just stop it.
10:56You need to chill out, right?
10:58You're also going to be breathalysed.
11:00Alright? And smell alcohol
11:02on your breath.
11:04Do you stink of drink?
11:06Are you willing
11:08to provide me with a specimen of breath?
11:10Alright.
11:12And smell alcohol
11:14on the car.
11:16I suspect he's going to be on false plates as well.
11:18But I can smell alcohol on his breath as well
11:20so he's going to get breathalysed.
11:22Blow that, please,
11:24until I tell you to stop.
11:28Are you willing to take part
11:30in the test? Yes or no?
11:32I'll ask you one more time.
11:34Yes or no?
11:36OK, you're further arrested on suspicion
11:39of failing to provide a specimen of breath.
11:43Check the VIN on that, please.
11:49Is that going to add up to the charity number?
11:53No, it's just part of the VIN number, please.
11:55Go ahead.
11:57Sierra
11:59Juliet, November.
12:01It's obviously
12:03going to be alcohol, isn't it?
12:05Yes, that's clear.
12:07That's a clue.
12:09Nice.
12:11Jump out.
12:13Right, come on then, mate.
12:15There you go.
12:17Oh, my God.
12:19Oh, it's not happening.
12:21Sit down.
12:35Oh, my God.
12:56Good little result.
12:58He stinks of drink, his attitude stinks,
13:00thinks he's done nothing wrong
13:02and I guess it shows you the sort of mentality
13:04that fails to stop for the police,
13:06driving around 40, 50 miles an hour down back lanes
13:08and then jump out of the car
13:10and think that they've done absolutely nothing wrong.
13:14He just started tensing up a little bit as I grabbed hold of him.
13:16He was quite a big lad.
13:18There's no place for anyone
13:20to be drink driving
13:22and will lock everyone up day in,
13:24day out.
13:26So, yeah, good little job.
13:34MUSIC PLAYS
13:40Start of every shift, I've got, like, a bit of a ritual, I suppose.
13:43Put all your kit on in a certain order.
13:45It's got to be right.
13:47Every time I leave my locker,
13:49keys, phone, the warrant card.
13:51And that's that.
13:53At Eitel Lane, Nick,
13:55there's one essential piece of kit
13:57PC Chris Kemp cannot live without.
13:59Your hair products.
14:01You've got to check the weather forecast
14:03before you put the stuff on your hair
14:05because if you put something that's going to wash out
14:07when you're standing on dual carriageway for six hours
14:09and it's pouring down, that stuff's going to go all over the place.
14:11It's going to get in your eyes.
14:13So if that's the case, you want to go with, like,
14:15sort of wax-based product.
14:17That's never going to wash out on a scene.
14:19Different aftershaves, depending on my mood.
14:21I've always been known for having an affection
14:23for the stronger scents.
14:25You don't want anything too sweet.
14:27Just a quick dab of something like that.
14:29Other brands are available.
14:31I'm ready to go.
14:35Even after 15 years as a cop...
14:40..Chris is still hungry for action.
14:46The standard diet of a motor patrols cop is crime.
14:49I'm going to take one bite, I'm going to take two bites,
14:51I'm going to take ten bites.
14:53I'm going to eat a whole load of goddamn crime overnight
14:55and that's going to fill me up,
14:57sustained by my work.
15:02It's a bit like a family business for me.
15:04My mam and my stepdad worked in the control room
15:07and sort of, like, grew up with them
15:09always being in and around the police.
15:11My dad had been a police officer,
15:13so it was something that I'd always, like, fancied
15:15and so I ended up joining them at the age of 20.
15:18I had my 21st birthday on an early day shift
15:20and my mam decided, in surprises, with a birthday cake,
15:23nearly set the parade room ceiling on fire
15:25at seven o'clock in the morning.
15:31SIREN WAILS
15:37167, towards the time bridge.
15:41That vehicle's failed to stop.
15:44They're all over the road.
15:48I don't know if it's just an older driver
15:50or a killed driver.
15:53SIREN WAILS
15:59The vehicle's failed to stop.
16:01Another officer.
16:05He's not trained to pursue it, so he switched his lights off
16:07and he's just sighted it going over the time bridge.
16:11Possibly a drunk driver.
16:13So we're going to go down and have a look and see if it turns up.
16:23SIREN WAILS
16:27The vehicle's come off the general direction of bike lane.
16:30Was it taking the first left off the roundabout, was it?
16:33Yes, yes.
16:43Tango 11, I'm behind that vehicle now.
16:45I'll assume the role of pursuit commander.
16:48TPAC trained in a suitable vehicle. I've made no attempt to stop.
16:53Vehicle hasn't reacted to my presence.
16:56Low risk, speed three-zero.
16:58Yes, yes.
17:05Vehicle's indicating left, going into the petrol station.
17:08Let's see if we can get to Makiya.
17:23Put your handbrake on, please.
17:25Why didn't you stop for my colleague down the road?
17:32Tango 11, vehicle's stopped.
17:34Can I have a check on the driver of this car, please?
17:39Can you just step out, please?
17:41OK. Have you had anything to drink tonight?
17:43No, no, no. Good.
17:45I'm going to ask you to provide a sample of breath to confirm that,
17:48just because, obviously, you have failed to stop for my colleague.
17:53Tango 11, she doesn't have a substantive licence.
17:56She has no stop sign markers and no points.
18:03You're not under arrest and you're not detained,
18:05but I'm going to make a requirement of you to provide a sample of breath,
18:08and if you fail to give me a sample of breath, you could then be arrested.
18:11So if you don't blow, you could be arrested, all right?
18:14So, good deep breath and blow.
18:17Keep going. Right, blow, blow, blow.
18:20Keep going. Right, blow, blow, blow.
18:22You're sucking, you're sucking.
18:24It's the other way, it's out.
18:26Like that.
18:28Deep breath.
18:30Now, out.
18:33It needs more than that.
18:35Slower and steadier.
18:37Deep breath in.
18:40Then when you're ready...
18:44Now, deep breath and then...
18:47Nice and steady, OK?
18:49Because you could be arrested if you fail to give a sample of breath at the roadside,
18:52so I really need you to do this and get it right, OK?
18:54Good, seal around it.
18:56Blow. Hard, hard.
18:58Keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going. Stop.
19:00That is magic. You've done it.
19:03You made it look like hard work.
19:06Right, there we go, zero.
19:08That's what I like to see.
19:10That means you've got no alcohol in your system, so you've passed the test, OK?
19:13I'm very sorry. I should have stopped immediately. I don't do that.
19:17Would you just grab a hold of the stick on the end where you're blowing,
19:19and I'm just going to pull the box gently like this,
19:21and it's going to come up in your hand like that.
19:23You can just do what you want with that.
19:25Let's keep it.
19:27Put it on the mantelpiece.
19:29What a lovely, eventful memory it'll be.
19:31That ultimately wraps up all of our business.
19:33OK, thank you.
19:39It was just obviously, I think the driver was maybe a little bit flustered when we'd stopped there.
19:43But no harm, no foul.
19:45You never know until you stop and speak to these drivers.
19:47So, absolutely great.
19:49She's happy, we're happy.
19:51We got there in the end.
19:53Let's get on with the rest of the night.
20:16I've had no sleep today.
20:18It's going to be a long night tonight.
20:23Got to stay hydrated, most important thing.
20:32At Eatall Lane station, PC Yan Shimlisher is paying the price for a healthy lifestyle.
20:39My legs are killing, my hips are killing, my back's killing.
20:44I'm falling to bits.
20:46At some point during the shift, I'll probably cry a little bit.
20:51Jamie off the shift invited us to play basketball.
20:54And I haven't played basketball for about 15 years.
20:58And in my mind, I was still in my early 20s and I couldn't jump as high as I thought I could jump.
21:04So, it was a bit of a middle-aged dad moment.
21:07Coming to a hard realisation that the body's not what it used to be.
21:13So, hopefully nobody runs from us tonight, or it could be a little bit embarrassing.
21:21Tonight, Yan's patrolling the streets of Newcastle city centre.
21:27It's a really nice city actually.
21:29Gets a little bit rowdy sometimes, but generally people are well behaved.
21:35And you get a lot of people coming up to Newcastle just to have a good time.
21:39Because Geordie's are quite welcoming and like to have a good night out.
21:49That looks well dodgy.
21:51Audi A3 there with a young lad with his hood up.
21:54Which might be nothing, he might just have a cold head.
21:58That's what he'll probably tell us.
22:02But I always find it a bit strange when young lads are driving around with their hoods up.
22:10A lot of the time you've got to follow your nose.
22:13If something doesn't look right or doesn't feel right, it's probably because it's not right.
22:18So, it's well worth a stop.
22:40See if it makes sense.
22:48Is he stopping or is he not stopping?
23:05There's no love lost on Britain's roads.
23:10But then, it never did run smoothly.
23:14You can't hurry it.
23:18And when it comes to romance, two's company.
23:23But three.
23:26Or four.
23:29Or five.
23:32Is a crowd.
23:40That looks well dodgy.
23:41It'd be well worth a stop.
23:49Is he stopping or is he not stopping?
23:53In North Shields, a suspicious driver has caught Jan's attention.
23:59He's stopping.
24:00Stop.
24:09Hello mate, you alright?
24:11I noticed your car before. When you passed us, you had your hood up.
24:15Is it your car?
24:17Just jump in for two seconds. I'll do some checking.
24:20So it wasn't like your manner of driving or anything it was just like I think you went
24:31past us.
24:32Oh I did have my head hood up like I was just cold.
24:35Yeah no fair enough cold ears I'll take that.
24:39Sometimes when it's like a young lad driving you know it's more dodgy than what it looks.
24:44Yeah I understand that.
24:45Just make sure you're insured and licensed and all that sort of stuff and then.
24:49I haven't got my license on.
24:50Can go and 9-9 for you.
24:51Quid?
24:52No reports on it.
24:53MOT is fine.
24:54Insurance is not held.
24:55It says that you've got no insurance.
24:56Should do like 100%.
24:57I used to live down in Plymouth so it might be my Plymouth address.
25:06I think my father helped us sort it out.
25:19I can sort it out.
25:20I can get covered if I didn't realize that if it isn't I didn't realize that it wasn't.
25:26Can go and 9-9 for you.
25:30Quid?
25:31Provisional license.
25:38You've only got a provisional as well?
25:40No I don't.
25:41I've got my license 100%.
25:43You haven't?
25:46So you've got no insurance and you've got a provisional only?
25:49I've passed my test and that.
25:51But you haven't applied for your license?
25:53Right.
25:58Right unfortunately I'm going to have to seize your car.
26:01Right.
26:04So what do I do with this? I've got the van and my girlfriend.
26:09Are you just on your way home?
26:11No I've got a hotel to do.
26:14We used to live together but then we split up and then we're making a go of things again you know.
26:19I think I might have poured cold water over your hotel plans mate.
26:23I can only apologize.
26:25Can I not just get...
26:27You can't so even if you got insurance now if you drove away insured you'd still be committing an offense because you haven't got a license.
26:35Right.
26:36And I'd still take your car off you.
26:38Yeah.
26:39Does that make sense? Do you understand that?
26:40Yeah it does yeah.
26:41So with that being the case mate I will have to report you for the offenses of driving otherwise in accordance with a license and driving without insurance okay?
26:50I'm going to try and get somebody down to give you a lift down to the hotel okay?
26:54Right.
26:56I don't know all the crap mate.
26:58Aye mate yeah if you can get the key as well please if you don't mind.
27:11It's one of those you are a young couple with a young child and there's me on the roadside taking the car from them.
27:26But you've got to make sure that your license is in order that you've got insurance and unfortunately ignorance isn't an excuse.
27:34I do feel bad.
27:36I'd probably consider myself more of a matchmaker than a heartbreaker.
27:40I'm sure he'll be getting his strip torn off and back in the hotel and when he gets there you'll have some making up to do.
27:46When I first joined all you had was New York police will like go bump, bump, bump, bump, bump, bump.
28:14After 17 years as a cop Will's heard it all before.
28:20This one's got four.
28:23You wail.
28:27You change tones.
28:29Oh I like that one.
28:32I am a bit anal about sirens.
28:44That's the one I saw earlier you know.
28:47It went in the petrol station I'm sure it did.
28:50Eight hours into his night shift and Will spots a car he saw acting suspiciously earlier.
28:57It looks like it's got a group of lads in.
29:00It's you know early hours in the morning so potentially they could be up to no good or something.
29:07It's you know early hours in the morning so potentially they could be up to no good or they could be drinking.
29:17If he goes into the petrol station again.
29:24It's strange isn't it.
29:26That's a bit suspicious I think.
29:29We'll be checking in.
29:37Alright?
29:38Alright mate.
29:39You all motor like?
29:40Alright.
29:41Do you want me to have a look for a minute?
29:42What's up lad?
29:43It's the second time you've pulled in here isn't it?
29:46No.
29:47It is.
29:48Because I was behind you two minutes ago.
29:49Jump in the back of my car for two ticks.
29:50Have you got your driving licence on you or not?
29:51No I haven't mate.
29:52You've actually got one though.
29:53Oh yeah I've definitely got one.
29:58I've got it.
29:59I've got it.
30:00I've got it.
30:01I've got it.
30:02I've got it.
30:03I've got it.
30:04I've got it.
30:05I've got it.
30:07Might be a drug wipe.
30:12I did a check on this car I've got stopped earlier on.
30:15It was just running back through to do a check on the driver.
30:21Right.
30:22It just seems a little bit strange to me that as soon as I've pulled in behind you,
30:26you've then jumped into the car park again.
30:31No, no mate.
30:32No, no mate.
30:33Just nipped down to the garage so I could get some cans and that.
30:39Can I go now to you?
30:42Go on.
30:43There's got things showing as outstanding.
30:45Showing there's a substantive licence or that.
30:48Lovely.
30:49Thank you.
30:51Right, my mate.
30:52I'll tell you the crack now.
30:55The cost honks of cannabis.
30:58I'm going to request a specimen of saliva from you.
31:01All right.
31:02Because I can smell cannabis.
31:04When was the last time you've had a joint?
31:06Don't smoke on me.
31:07The lad's got a joint on him.
31:10Use any vapes or anything like that?
31:12No.
31:14You obviously do smoke cannabis, mate.
31:16Well, I've smoked cannabis.
31:18When was the last time you smoked it?
31:21Probably was a joint before bed last night.
31:28Right, stick your tongue out for us, mate.
31:31Just sit forward a bit.
31:32All right.
31:37You think you might feel it?
31:39No.
31:40No?
31:41Good.
31:58Right, mate.
32:00You've failed that test.
32:02Failed it.
32:03All right.
32:04So, you're under arrest, all right,
32:06for providing a positive specimen of saliva for drugs.
32:09You're going to end up going to the police station
32:11and then from there we'll deal with it from there.
32:13I'm getting locked up now.
32:14You're getting locked up now, mate.
32:16Just stay in the car, please, mate.
32:20The boys are going to be walking home.
32:22You're going to be walking home.
32:25The boys are going to be walking home.
32:28Where's his keys, mate?
32:31All right.
32:32If he's out, you need out of the car, just carry it out now.
32:35All right.
32:36He's locked up.
32:43Obviously, the cannabis side of it,
32:45it's not just about sort of smoking it there and then,
32:48it's about what's in your system.
32:50Do you smoke it every day like that?
32:52Every night.
32:54Some people have different tolerances to it.
32:58You shouldn't have cannabis in your system.
33:19As soon as he's opened the car door,
33:21there was a massive honk of cannabis.
33:23He was just taking his mates to get some cans.
33:26Thought he was going to have a nice chilled-out night
33:28listening to Bob Marley.
33:32It's a big no-no, drug driving.
33:34I'll never complain
33:36when we're taking drug drivers off the street.
33:39So, yeah, one nil to us, really, isn't it?
33:42Lucky us, unlucky him.
33:52It's a bit like being a movie star, really, when you're on traffic,
33:55because you're involved in all these, like,
33:57high-pressure, high-action situations.
34:01Leading man Chris loves life as a cop.
34:04Just don't tell his missus.
34:08My wife's just bored of me talking about work.
34:10You know, I come home and I've got all these great stories
34:13that I would love to tell her,
34:14and she's just, like, totally not bothered by them.
34:16I'm like, oh, I've done this dead-exec thing at work.
34:19I guess being married to a celebrity can become tiring.
34:24LAUGHTER
34:47Tango 11, so is that the Honda that we're after?
34:54We've got a pre-planned operation on the go at the minute,
34:57just to look for a car that had made off from us last night
35:00and was being driven dangerously.
35:03Just all over the place,
35:04wouldn't let the wrong way round roundabouts.
35:06Doing, like, 80 to 90 mile an hour.
35:08Could have anything.
35:09It could have, like, drugs or weapons on board.
35:12Can you tell us that's us just lifted?
35:14And where do you want us?
35:17It's potentially come off the one in Aynton,
35:19which is quite a wide search area.
35:25We've spoken to the helicopter to get a few units in place.
35:29Are you happy with the operation, Steve?
35:32100%.
35:34We've got an idea where the car might be now,
35:36so we've set up a little plan just to basically
35:38have a couple of stingers out to set a trap
35:40and hopefully catch it before it can go into a high-speed pursuit.
35:43So we're just making our way up there now,
35:45trying to cover a bit of ground.
35:50Stopping dangerous drivers
35:52is a high-risk job for motorway cops.
35:56Cambridge.
35:57And a white van is refusing to stop for Cambridgeshire police.
36:02The driver looks like he'll come quietly,
36:05but instead...
36:08...rams the cop car.
36:11He hits the gas and makes a getaway.
36:15The driver is caught in the middle of the road,
36:17but he's not caught in the middle of the road.
36:20He's caught in the middle of the road,
36:22hits the gas and makes a getaway,
36:25running red lights,
36:30shooting the wrong way round a roundabout
36:34and speeding down the opposite side of the road.
36:39Cops have seen enough
36:41and use tactical contact
36:45to bring the pursuit to an end.
36:49The driver pleaded guilty to criminal damage
36:51and dangerous driving.
36:53He was banned from driving for four and a half years
36:56and jailed for three years.
37:05A car made off from us last night
37:07and was being driven dangerously.
37:09Hopefully catch it before it can go into a high-speed pursuit.
37:13In Northumberland,
37:15Chris is racing to catch up with a driver
37:17who refused to stop for police last night.
37:21We've got cars going up now
37:23to put Stinghaz out.
37:27Fellow motorway cops Jan and Jamie
37:29also join the hunt.
37:32The car's very rainy out here.
37:34It could have gone in any number of directions at the minute,
37:37so we've got a lot of cars in the area
37:40with a helicopter overhead.
37:43It cannot be far away, wherever it is.
37:52What's that?
38:05Tango 1-1 behind that vehicle now.
38:07Assume the role of pursuit commander.
38:09Vehicle's making off from me.
38:11This is now a pursuit, now a pursuit.
38:14Very, very dangerous whipping through a residential area.
38:17Just a real risk to the public.
38:19Very, very dangerous driving.
38:22It's a left, left, left to 197.
38:31Speed 6-0, risk high.
38:36Continuing 197.
38:42I've got a Stinger on the 197.
38:45Yes, yes, there's nothing in front of it.
38:48High speeds, no regard for other road users,
38:50so the safest thing is just to take out the tyres.
38:55Vehicle's continuing, wrong side of the road.
38:57Speed 6-0.
39:04It's a left, left, left.
39:08Vehicle has slowed in the road.
39:17Vehicle is off-road, off-road on a footpath.
39:32If only we could predict when bad driving will happen.
39:38With a horoscope for the highways.
39:42See why your life is lacking direction.
39:47Stop me doing that.
39:49And let the stars be your guide.
39:53But watch out for planetary obstacles moving through Uranus.
40:03Tango 11 behind that vehicle now.
40:05This is now a pursuit, now a pursuit.
40:08Vehicle's continuing, wrong side of the road.
40:10Speed 6-0.
40:13In Northumberland, Chris is chasing an SUV driver.
40:17Who is refusing to stop.
40:22Vehicle is off-road, off-road on a footpath.
40:29And possibly two, we've got him on camera.
40:33That's a stop, a stop.
40:35We've got runners.
40:37Two out and running.
40:41Three, two.
40:42They've gone into the field.
40:44I think they're going to keep going towards the estate.
40:48Jan and Jamie arrive on scene.
40:51And follow instructions from above.
40:54The car that's coming on, keep coming, keep coming.
40:57On your left now, in the field.
41:00There are five others out there, Ian.
41:02They're coming your way.
41:06Tango 11, well lap, bring them out.
41:10Going towards the estate.
41:12Going towards the estate.
41:16We're going to try and get in front of these guys and cut them off.
41:19It's all happening.
41:28They're coming your way, straight to you.
41:36I can see them.
41:42Get down on the ground now, get down.
41:45Wait, this is a big boy, lad.
41:48You're under arrest.
41:49Driver detained.
41:51Passenger, I think, is still in the open scrub.
41:56To the mark, I'll just go round the bend and stop, stop.
42:00Is there a lad on your left there?
42:02Yes, yes.
42:07Get down on the ground now, get down.
42:09Do not move.
42:13Both of them have been arrested.
42:16It's a good result, probably the best result we could have hoped for, really.
42:36What's this?
42:37I think it's drugs.
42:40A Stanley knife, a hammer, probably out drug dealing.
42:45It's not a mobile DIY service, is it?
43:10It's funny, when I came up that junction, I was looking at the car and I was like, that's the car.
43:14The driver looked at us and was like, I'm off you.
43:16And he just went, like that.
43:18So I gave it a little bit of this, and a little bit of this.
43:21And before you know it, it was like, bang, like this.
43:23And his tyres were gone.
43:25So it's a pretty good result, I'm happy with that.
43:27It's a great result, isn't it?
43:29Top work, I couldn't make it happen without you.
43:40The best result is that, from the point that I've seen the driver,
43:44to the point that they've been arrested, we've never had our eyes off them.
43:48It's the best outcome, it's the one that we wanted.
43:50We've got the criminals, I'd be fairly happy with that, I think.
44:10If you have any dashcam clips you think could feature in the next series of Motorway Cops,
44:15catching Britain's speeders, send them, along with your contact details to
44:20contact us at purpleproductions.co.uk
44:39Thanks for watching!
