Prophet Jacob guides the Israelites to pray to the One and Only God. God annunciates to him about the next prophet, who will be from his own generation. One night, his son, Joseph, dreams about the sun, the moon and eleven stars which kneel in front of him. He tells Jacob, who advises him not to tell his brothers about the dream. Prophet Joseph is dear to Jews, Christians and Muslims alike. For centuries, the story of his life has been told over and over in many different ways and in many different languages. 01:52Leave him alone!
01:54Beast! Leave... leave him alone!
02:04Master Jacob! Wake up! Wake up, Master Jacob!
02:10What's the matter, Prophet of God? A nightmare?
02:14Your voice could be heard from the other room.
02:17Yes. It was a horrible nightmare.
02:20Some wolves were chasing after a child.
02:27They drove the child right over the edge of a cliff.
02:33They wanted to devour him.
02:37Did you recognize the child? Who was it?
02:43He was too far. I couldn't see his face.
02:51But his figure resembled that of Joseph.
03:07The Prophet of God surely knows the interpretation, or he wouldn't be so worried.
03:14A calamity is going to befall Jacob's family.
03:20Amen.
03:35God wants not bad for any of his servants.
03:40But his servants collude with Satan, and then deceive each other.
03:51Let's go.
04:05Sleeping will help calm you down. You need some rest.
04:20O Lord, in Thee I take refuge.
04:35It's strange. Gad, Asher, did you hear any noise last night?
04:42No. We were asleep. We didn't hear anything.
04:46I woke for a moment, but I didn't hear anything.
04:50Your father's voice woke me up last night. He was dreaming.
04:54When I woke him, he said that ten wolves had been attacking a boy who resembled Joseph and drove him off a cliff.
05:04And he got up in the middle of the night and caressed and kissed Joseph.
05:09But didn't he recognize the child?
05:12He said he couldn't see. But of course it was Joseph.
05:17Otherwise he wouldn't have cuddled and caressed Joseph when he woke up.
05:21If the child was Joseph, then we brothers must surely be the wolves.
05:27Do you think it would be funny if your father saw you as wolves?
05:42Jacob said he dreamed of ten wolves attacking a boy that looked like Joseph and pushing him off a cliff.
05:50That's not a bad dream.
05:53What are you saying, Bilhah? Jacob saw our children as wolves. You think that's a good dream?
06:01The wolves that devoured Joseph aren't bad wolves.
06:06The children themselves must do something. The children themselves.
06:36The children themselves.
07:06What's going on?
07:30I think I know.
07:32I think I know.
07:41Father thinks about Joseph even at night. He even sees him in his sleep.
07:48He takes Joseph wherever he goes and even sleeps beside him.
07:54Stop fussing, Judah. We still don't know exactly what Father's dream was.
07:58Besides, unlike us, Joseph doesn't have a place or a mother.
08:02So Father has to take him wherever he goes.
08:06We know exactly what Father's dream was.
08:09He dreamt of us as wolves. Wolves that devoured Joseph.
08:16Hello, Father.
08:17Hello, Father.
08:20You mustn't accept whatever someone says and make a fuss about it.
08:24You mustn't accept whatever someone says and make a fuss about it.
08:35My mother said that you saw us like wolves in your dream and that we were attacking Joseph and...
08:42That is wrong. I dreamt of a few wolves attacking a child.
08:48Neither did the wolves resemble you nor the child, Joseph.
08:54I didn't see any face in my dream.
08:57Obviously the ten wolves are us brothers.
09:03I didn't count the number of wolves in my dream.
09:07Why do you think that there were ten?
09:20I love all of you.
09:24I have always been grateful and thankful for your hard work.
09:30But I can't sit Judah, now a grown man, on my lap like a little child.
09:37None of you are children anymore.
09:42When you were little children, I was kind to you as little children.
09:47Sat you on my lap, let you sleep beside me.
09:51All of you have had both your mother's love and your father's love.
09:57No matter how much love Joseph and his brother have, they'll never have it as much as you did.
10:03I wouldn't expect you grown-ups to compare yourselves with children.
10:10Gad, Asher, ask your mother how I cuddled you last night.
10:16Oh, I was awake last night.
10:20You put blankets on Gad and me and stroked our heads.
10:25I have told you before.
10:28Your words show signs of envy.
10:32These are devilish thoughts.
10:35Don't let those tailbears and the malicious ignite the flames of envy in you.
10:41Father, we'd like to play with Joseph. Why can't we?
10:47I have no objection.
10:49He is your brother.
10:51Who says you can't play with him?
10:54I'm certain that he enjoys playing with you as well.
10:58Can we play with him now?
11:01What are you waiting for? Go on.
11:03Go on.
11:09Don't you want to take the sheep to the plain?
11:21Forgive us, Father.
11:33Forgive us.
12:34Well, well, well.
12:36What a handsome group of young men.
12:39How are you? What are you doing?
12:45We're warming milk for our lunch.
12:49How wonderful.
12:51Would you not enjoy having a cup of tea?
12:55No, thank you.
12:57I'd rather have a cup of tea.
12:59How wonderful.
13:01Would you not enjoy having a surprise guest?
13:06Who are you?
13:09What are you doing here?
13:11Oh, I'm from the neighboring village.
13:14Although I'm not a shepherd, I sometimes bring the sheep to the pasture.
13:23What's the matter with you?
13:26It seems like you're not happy to have me here.
13:30Why should we be?
13:31Oh, well, quite right.
13:33Seeing a stranger doesn't make anybody happy, does it?
13:36Truth is that I've come to see you.
13:39It is a real pleasure meeting you all.
13:43Do you know us?
13:45Oh, yes.
13:47Everybody around here knows the children of Prophet Jacob.
13:51Then why are you surprised to see us?
13:53Well, I dreamt of you last night.
13:56Can you believe that?
13:58Yesterday I saw you when I was asleep, and today while I'm awake.
14:02Isn't that strange?
14:04We'd love to hear.
14:06Tell us.
14:08Well, it was a very strange dream.
14:11I couldn't figure it out.
14:14I saw you, ten brothers,
14:19carrying a lofted child on a litter.
14:23As if you were his slaves and he was your master.
14:30Then I saw the child riding on a chariot,
14:33and you were ten horses pulling the chariot.
14:36Then I saw him on a throne,
14:39having chained you,
14:41and you were working for him as shepherds and farmers.
14:45I apologize if I've upset you with that dream,
14:49but it's not important.
14:51Don't worry about it.
14:53I'd better go.
15:01What an ugly, loathsome face he had.
15:05What an ugly, loathsome face he had.
15:17Where did he go?
15:22He couldn't have left so fast.
15:25He vanished.
15:26I don't know.
15:27Perhaps he vanished into thin air.
15:29I don't know who he was,
15:31but his words have made me think.
15:35His dream resembled Joseph's.
15:44Hello, Father.
15:45Hello, Father.
15:46Hello, my darlings.
15:47Hello, Father.
15:48Hello.
15:50How are you?
16:05Greetings to the prophet of God.
16:07Greetings to you, my son.
16:10What's wrong?
16:12Have you fought someone?
16:14Yes, I fought your children.
16:17Why?
16:18Because they destroyed our farm
16:20and had their sheep graze in it.
16:23And when I protested,
16:25they beat me up.
16:34Judah!
16:35Simeon!
16:37Levi!
16:41Come here!
16:53Why did you let the sheep destroy this boy's farm?
16:57We can't stop the sheep, Father.
17:00It isn't so bad.
17:02Why did you beat him up?
17:04I don't know.
17:10You can perform lex talionis.
17:12Prophet of God,
17:13please forgive them.
17:15But tell them not to let their sheep on our farm again.
17:18That's all I ask.
17:21They said they're the owners of Canaan,
17:23but they can do whatever they want
17:25and take their sheep wherever they like.
17:32Who has given you the right
17:33to take the sheep onto other people's farms?
17:37Who has told you that we are the owners of Canaan?
17:43My son,
17:45I apologize.
17:47I promise our sheep will never damage your farm again.
17:52And I shall compensate you
17:54for your loss.
17:56We made a mistake.
17:58We apologize.
18:00In Canaan,
18:01everybody possesses his own property.
18:04The real owners of Canaan
18:06are the Palestinians, not us.
18:08Then where are we from, Father?
18:11My grandfather,
18:12your great-grandfather,
18:13Prophet Abraham,
18:15whose shrine is in Machpelah,
18:18was from Ur in Sumer
18:20and Chaldea in the south of Mesopotamia.
18:23It is near your birthplace in Haran.
18:26Before then,
18:27the Palestinians lived here.
18:30The ancestors of this young man lived in Canaan
18:32centuries before we did.
18:35However, after a hundred years,
18:37all of us,
18:38the Hebrew and the Canaanites,
18:40are from Canaan.
18:42We must all be friends with each other.
18:57We must all be friends with each other.
