00:00So, Adam Kaplan is our NFL insider and you can follow him on ExitKaplanNFL and he's leaving
00:09after this show today to go to, I believe, Los Angeles.
00:14He's flying from Philadelphia to Los Angeles tonight and he's going to be covering all
00:20these camps out in Southern California.
00:24It sounds pretty stacked, your schedule.
00:26Yeah.
00:27I've got the Raiders and Saints tomorrow and then I've got the Chargers hosting the Rams
00:33at the vault, the Chargers' new facility in El Segundo near LAX.
00:38Then I'll come to you after I...
00:41You and I will be back together on Monday.
00:43We should...
00:44It's either going to be Monday or Tuesday, but I'll have been to Jets and Commanders
00:48later in the week.
00:49On Monday, it's the Giants hosting the Lions and then I fly Monday night to see the Dolphins
00:56hosting the New Look Falcons, man.
00:59That's what it's all about.
01:00A lot going on these next five or six days.
01:03Wow.
01:04That is just incredible.
01:05So let's talk about some things today.
01:07Why don't we start with the kid May up in New England.
01:13They've been giving Brissette the majority of the QB1 reps, but now they're going to
01:18let May do his thing a little bit.
01:20Yeah.
01:21We need to talk about this because I think what happens sometimes, people overreact.
01:25Yes.
01:26Overall, Jacobi Brissette, barring something unforeseen, will be the start of week one
01:30when they play the Bengals.
01:31However, however, Drake May has yet to get work with the ones.
01:36And Gerard May, our other head coach, did say this week the plan is soon to get Drake
01:40May, the third pick overall, reps with the first team offense because that's when you
01:44really know where he is.
01:47You and I talked about this before the draft.
01:49I told you he'd be a top 10 pick, but he's a project.
01:51You don't want to rush it when you're an NFL team and you inherit a player you know is
01:55a project.
01:56You don't want to rush it.
01:57But at some point, he's going to play this season and they want to see what it looks
02:01like this coming week with the practices because right now, you get to the third week of training
02:08camp then.
02:09Okay.
02:10The following week, you got the first preseason game.
02:12They play the Eagles, right?
02:14They also have a joint practice with those Eagles in Foxborough and that's when you really
02:19know when you ratchet it up.
02:21Practice to practice to practice.
02:22You get them reps with the first team.
02:26That's when you know.
02:27But before that, you're not going to know quite where he is.
02:29You know from the practice tape and being with him every day, you kind of get a general
02:32idea.
02:33But you want to see this great arm strength.
02:36He's a pretty good athlete, by the way, but he's very raw and he needs more work.
02:39But I'm very interested to see how he does with this first team offense.
02:42And by the way, a revamped wide receiver group with the Patriots.
02:47When he came out of North Carolina, whatever, when we were watching him in college, he was,
02:53you know, a top five quarterback that was going to be drafted in the NFL and everyone
03:00talked about how big his arm was and how he could get out of the pocket and throw on the
03:06run and that he could take off running and started doing more of that his last two years
03:12in Chapel Hill.
03:14What changed from like him being so talented and so automatic to hearing you say raw?
03:22All right, let's take the latter of what you talked about.
03:26You talked about him able to roll out and throw on the run and make great throws.
03:29The problem was accuracy, bailing from the pocket when he shouldn't, staying in there.
03:35He's got enormous arm strength.
03:36Yes, he's an athlete.
03:37Sure.
03:38Certainly when you get pressure, he can run.
03:40You know that going.
03:41He could do that.
03:42But he's got to hang in there.
03:43He just had some habits.
03:44When I talk about being wrong, he had some habits that need to be cleaned up.
03:48They've got you Kobe Brissett there as an insurance policy, one of the best backup quarterbacks
03:53of the National Football League.
03:54Remember when he had to fill in for the Colts when Adler luck suddenly retired, he did a
03:58very good job.
03:59This guy's been there and done that.
04:00He's also been drafted by the Patriots, so they know him very well, that organization.
04:04This is the perfect guy to mentor.
04:06Drake May, who's got a lot of work ahead of him.
04:08And the other thing is, look, they've revamped their receiver core.
04:12It's going to take them a while to develop chemistry, but the earlier they get him in
04:15there, Scott, and develop that chemistry, the better off they're going to be for the
04:19long term.
04:20Big things are expected from Jamison Williams in Detroit this year.
04:24Yeah, we need to talk about this because, look, the first two years, not great.
04:29First year, remember he's come out from the ACL injury, didn't do much.
04:32Only one catch last year, 24 receptions.
04:35But he was playing a ton of snaps to end the season.
04:37But third year, former first round pick.
04:40At some point, the light's got to go on, and what I'm told is, the light's going on.
04:45What I was told with him was, route running needed to improve, maturity needed to improve.
04:50He had to take a big step this offseason.
04:52He felt what I was told is the urgency, and then Ben Johnson, the Lions offensive coordinator,
04:56talked about it this week.
04:57And he basically talked about the next step.
04:59He's doing all the right things.
05:01This kid is super gifted.
05:03You saw in the playoffs, he came on a little bit.
05:06And this is his season.
05:07You got Aman Ra, St. Brown opposite him, who signed that extension.
05:10You got Sam Laporta, the excellent tight end.
05:12If you like fantasy football like you and I do, this is the season for him.
05:16By the way, he's going late in drafts.
05:18He's going the second half of drafts because people don't, they're not sure whether to
05:21trust him because he didn't have that great season last season.
05:24But this is the year from what I understand, the maturity is hitting, the light has kind
05:28of went on.
05:29I'm expecting a big year for him.
05:30I'm expecting 60 catches or more from Jameson Williams.
05:33I can't wait to see if he takes his game to another level.
05:36What about King Henry, how's it going so far with him and the Ravens?
05:40All right.
05:41I was there yesterday and I could tell you, Scott, I could tell you, as one person said
05:46with the Ravens, how are teams going to defend us with Henry, as you mentioned, Lamar Jackson,
05:51his ability to throw and run, those two excellent tight ends and Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely.
05:57They've got so much going on here.
05:58And just watching practice, watch the defense to react, whether Lamar's going to hand it
06:03off to Henry or is he going to roll out or run or throw the football?
06:07I'm so looking forward to what this offense looks like this season and what that division,
06:12how the AFC North is going to handle it, man.
06:13I get why they try to trade from a trade deadline.
06:17Henry still has something left.
06:18There's no question.
06:19And I can't wait to see what this offense looks like.
06:21It's going to look different though, because they've got a big time power back in Henry.
06:25I think one of the exciting things will be to see the same look as before is that the
06:29Steelers beating him twice, beating him in Baltimore, beating him in Pittsburgh.
06:34I think I'll go to the game in Pittsburgh.
06:35What a rivalry.
06:36Adam, have a great trip out to Los Angeles.
06:40Have a safe flight.
06:41We look forward to your reports again on Monday from Adam's summer circuit around the NFL.
