00:00:00Wait here, I'll be okay.
00:00:07Good luck.
00:00:30I'll be right back.
00:00:58The Spirit Portal.
00:01:05Amazing.
00:01:21What avatar is this?
00:01:26A light in the dark.
00:01:42Why isn't it opening?
00:01:52Come on, portal, open!
00:02:21The Spirit's dancing in the sky.
00:02:48I can't believe it.
00:02:50It's beautiful.
00:03:01She did it.
00:03:07Hey, Korra, you're back!
00:03:08Hey, Korra's back!
00:03:14What?
00:03:43Aw.
00:04:02What are all your northern troops doing here?
00:04:04Hmm.
00:04:21Did not take long. Yep.
00:04:26This isn't even suggesting you have to do away with...
00:04:36As a person, I actually really like the Civil War.
00:05:04I actually really like the Civil War storyline, completely in character with his desire to bring back the spiritual center of the Southern Water Tribe.
00:05:32Let's see.
00:05:57Well, he wants the tribes to be unified as one nation.
00:05:59He thinks it would just be better for his people overall,
00:06:01and you can also understand why the Southern Water Tribe would rather maintain their own cultural identity.
00:06:04Even though one side is objectively in the right here,
00:06:07Unalaq has more to say for himself as a character in terms of how he thinks.
00:06:10It's more than just shouting slogans.
00:06:11He rediscovers a bending technique that had been lost to benders for some time.
00:06:14He's certainly done a lot of work communing with the spirit world,
00:06:17and even suggests that their proximity to the portals makes waterbenders inherently more in tune with the spirits than most other benders.
00:06:22If they had stuck to this, it would have been so cool.
00:06:27Telling fandom that not every conflict needs a villain is like telling them that aluminum Christmas trees were a thing.
00:06:31Oh, the what?
00:06:33Oh yeah, okay, so in A Charlie Brown Christmas,
00:06:35there's a big thing where Charlie and Linus, they go to get a Christmas tree
00:06:40at a lot that has a lot of garishly colored aluminum Christmas trees.
00:06:44Linus even, like, knocks on one of them,
00:06:46and you can hear it bang with how metal it is.
00:06:50And instead he picks up a green and wooden one.
00:06:53The thing is, aluminum Christmas trees were a real thing back in the 60s,
00:06:57and it was Charlie Brown Christmas that killed them.
00:07:11Unalaq has more to say for himself as a character in terms of how he thinks.
00:07:13It's more than just shouting slogans.
00:07:15He rediscovers a bending technique that had been lost to benders for some time.
00:07:17He's clearly done a lot of work convening with the spirit world,
00:07:19and even suggests their proximity.
00:07:21Cool, even if ultimately Unalaq had to lose,
00:07:23because independence is always better than assimilation,
00:07:25you'd have people debating that outcome for years.
00:07:27And I think the reason they didn't stick to it was because it was too debatable.
00:07:35Audiences will often claim they like morally gray conflicts,
00:07:37but they tend to balk immediately once presented with one,
00:07:40because oftentimes the decision comes down to personal politics.
00:07:42I really like the conflict of the Civil War,
00:07:44even though I've already firmly staked aside.
00:07:46The argument can be made that unity is better for both tribes,
00:07:48and I don't have an argument against it more nuanced than
00:07:50I don't care no to assimilation.
00:07:52But I don't think a lot of people like doing that.
00:07:54I've been doing this job for a long time,
00:07:56and I've experienced that when it comes to ideological battles like this,
00:07:58people really don't like having to pick a side
00:08:00simply because of the idea that they could be wrong.
00:08:02The internet loves to argue subjectivity all the time,
00:08:04but that's usually just because fans feel entitled to be agreed with.
00:08:06In a situation like this,
00:08:08someone would have to ideologically pick a side
00:08:10without the immediate reassurance of which side is the correct one.
00:08:12And in the middle of the season,
00:08:14they would have to pick the one that loses.
00:08:24So instead,
00:08:26all of that interesting character work
00:08:28that could have put Kreia to shame
00:08:30as a character
00:08:32was all,
00:08:34and say it with me now,
00:08:36a fucking lie.
00:08:40Fucking kill me.
00:08:44People don't pick Tony or Steve
00:08:46because they inherently agree with them.
00:08:48They pick Tony because Steve hid the truth
00:08:50of Tony's parents,
00:08:52or they pick Steve because they ship Stucky.
00:08:54Yep.
00:09:14One second.
00:10:04One second.
00:10:34And they need to be able to pick and choose, uh, battles.
00:10:51Is Tony correct that they can't just act with impunity and do as they please, and that they're going to...
00:10:55If they're going to keep doing good, they need to make sacrifices to their personal freedom.
00:10:58Fandom doesn't care about that. Fandom cares about what makes them feel the best.
00:11:01Yep.
00:11:08Actually, before we get into Civil War, I'm going to take a break.
00:11:15I gotta be careful with this, because if I burn out, my critique will suffer.
00:11:21I had to use some last minute special spirit avatar trick to beat Ozai without killing him.
00:11:27And kept asking about it, so Bright got the message that fans demanded more and more spirit stuff.
00:12:58Baldi's fence post. Nice! Love it.
00:13:19Okay, Black Blood. A club with extra acid damage.
00:13:23Dwarven Thrower. Crushing a missile.
00:13:29A string key's buffering. Turn your quality down.
00:13:34Tancharon's bow. Gonna need that.
00:13:36Rashad's talon. I don't need that.
00:13:48Tancharon's bow.
00:13:51Raz, the dancing blade. Dancing sword can attack on its own for four rounds.
00:13:54Hmm, interesting.
00:14:15Okay, the animal troubles in Trademeat. I have agreed to try and help Trademeat, which is southeast of Avkatla.
00:14:19They are suffering from a strange animal-based siege, and local druids are suspected.
00:14:22High Merchant Lord Logan Koprath may inform me.
00:14:27Where is the High Merchant's home?
00:14:32Well, I suppose it would be at the Mayor's house, wouldn't it?
00:14:37I gotta head out myself. Sibling needs a favor done.
00:14:39Okie doke, Stormborn.
00:14:50Heyo, I welcome you to Trademeat.
00:14:55We have had a troubled season, and strangers of indeterminate nature are a potential threat until they prove otherwise.
00:15:01You spoke of trouble. Is there anything I can do?
00:15:03We've been here for generations, but now we are harassed from the strangest of sources.
00:15:15Until recently we did not know where to place blame, but now the people have found a target.
00:15:18The last group attack saw several figures directing the chaos.
00:15:20Druids, belonging to a group that had long been peaceful.
00:15:23The people apparently captured one. Had I not locked him up, they would have quartered him in the street.
00:15:28And has he confessed?
00:15:30He claims he is there to investigate the druids, and I believe him.
00:15:32Unfortunately, many of our systems... systems? Citizens will already believe him guilty.
00:15:37Nothing less than a public burning will satisfy an angry mob.
00:15:39This druid remains behind bars as much for his own protection as anything else.
00:15:42What I will have you do is escort him to his task, or see to it yourselves. Whichever you prefer.
00:15:49I will speak with him. CERND, where are you?
00:16:03Hello, and well met to you. I am CERND.
00:16:06Though my identity is surely no secret after the fuss I have caused here.
00:16:12Lord Coper sent me to escort you out of town and help in any way I can.
00:16:15Hmm, where should we be going?
00:16:17Best that we do not test the patience of the local townsfolk.
00:16:20Come on.
00:16:30Quarterstaff, scimitar... you can use a scimitar?
00:16:34You're a druid, those are metal weapons.
00:16:37Dagger, speed... hmm.
00:16:39Odd.
00:16:45Staff of the High Forest, we have one hit point. Useable only by CERND.
00:16:49Cloak of the High Forest.
00:16:52Oh goodness, CERND, what have you done to your fucking spellbook?
00:16:57Okay, first, level six. I'll give you two heals.
00:17:00Level five, iron skins.
00:17:05Pixie Dust. Creates a small handful of pixie dust the caster can use to toss into the air.
00:17:09Any ally hit by the dust becomes invisible.
00:17:11Of course, the invisible creature is not magically silenced.
00:17:16Missions can render the creature detectable.
00:17:18Even allies cannot see the invisible creature or its gear.
00:17:27Oh wait, no.
00:17:29Insect plague.
00:17:31The best ability in the game.
00:17:34This isn't the evil path, my joke, no.
00:17:37Yeah, sorry.
00:17:38Lyconia's still here, though.
00:17:42Call woodland beings.
00:17:45Hmm.
00:17:49Protection from fire.
00:17:52And dispel magic.
00:17:54And let's just give you slow poisons.
00:17:57Slow poison for days.
00:17:59And then chance.
00:18:01And then armor of the faith, sanctuary.
00:18:06Armor of the faith and a bunch of dooms.
00:18:08There we go.
00:18:11Come on, CERND, we're going on an adventure.
00:18:13You're like family to me, I mean it.
00:18:20The unadventurous life is not worth living.
00:18:43Hmm.
00:18:56Lyconia, if a single person says anything annoying, I'm burning down the city.
00:18:59Imoen takes a breath.
00:19:00Lyconia lights Molotov cocktail.
00:19:07To the druid grove.
00:19:09Okie doke.
00:19:11I think I can find Belm here.
00:19:17Can I use... Oh, I do have Scimitar proficiency.
00:19:20Which means...
00:19:26I can put Belm in the offhand for extra damage.
00:19:40Good.
00:20:11Yes?
00:20:15Jacqueless.
00:20:24I am here, I could do no less.
00:20:40Hmm.
00:20:47Oh, here we go.
00:21:11Come on.
00:21:17I always like these dreams, because you get to see BB Imoen.
00:21:20Granted, you get stabbed in the stomach by a goblin, but...
00:21:24Hmm.
00:21:40She shrugs, brushing the matter aside.
00:22:01Sorry about that.
00:22:10Don't you?
00:22:11We were ten or eleven or something like that.
00:22:12Hardly a year together, but we already got along just fine.
00:22:14Remember?
00:22:15You don't? Hmm.
00:22:16Well, maybe this will refresh your memory.
00:22:17Look.
00:22:27Oh no, very young Imoen.
00:22:32Ooh, that's loud.
00:22:41It won't hurt you no more.
00:22:42I smashed it with this rock.
00:22:43It's... Ew.
00:22:44I smashed it dead.
00:22:47I don't look so good.
00:22:48I'm gonna take you to friend dinner, okay?
00:22:51Young Imoen moans in pain, clutching the girl's shirt.
00:22:55Of course, I'll always be there for you.
00:22:56I'll always protect you from stupid goblins.
00:22:58Aw, BB!
00:23:10BB!
00:23:30BB!
00:23:32Oops.
00:23:33Gotcha.
00:23:35That is precious, even if it's a little bloody.
00:23:38BB!
00:23:41BB!
00:23:45There's a drawing on Tumblr called, like, Garayan and his two headaches.
00:23:48And it's got, like, a BB-
00:23:50a little BB Ward, and a little BB Imoen, and they're both being held by Garayan,
00:23:53and causing him no end of grief.
00:23:55And I love it.
00:23:57Let's see if I can find it.
00:24:03Nope, found it.
00:24:07Look!
00:24:08Look at him!
00:24:38I have always emotionally unprepared for baby M.O.N.
