00:19Everyone, thank you for joining us today for a grand opening of our show.
00:25My name is Neil Ellis. I am the chairman and the trustee of our charity East Preston Men's Shed.
00:37So the members of our shed want to give you all an even bigger thank you for all the support you have given us over the past three years.
00:45And whether it's been given individually or collectively, be it in the form of encouragement, physical work, financial donations, grants and anything else.
00:56It's been a pleasure. Thank you.
00:59The Men in Sheds movement is now spread all around the world and there are now approximately 1100 Men in Sheds in the UK alone.
01:10And around 900 of those are in England, so we're 101 now.
01:17The primary purpose of Men in Sheds are twofold.
01:21To encourage and enable men to come together to make and repair and repurpose things while also supporting projects in their local communities.
01:31Also, to provide a place for men to meet, make friends, socialise and to learn new skills.
01:40In doing so, combat socialisation and empower members to cultivate a renewed sense of purpose and self-worth.
01:49So to the members of East Preston Men in Sheds, we raise a glass to you all and thank you for all the support you have given us over the past three years.

02:04So that's almost been our non-executive director for the last three years.
02:10This lady, yes lady, it's Men in Sheds, but this lady has been a very special person to us.
02:15She's been with us through thick and thin, and there have been some thin times as well as some thick times in getting this shed together.
02:21But she's been our mentor, our inspiration, our encounter, all sorts of things.
02:26And I'm going to ask Pat Gander now to come up and open our shed, because there's no other person that we could think of that was the right person to open this shed for us today, after all that she's done.

02:49Thank you. This is a totally unprepared speech, but this has been one of my dreams for the last three years.
02:58It's been very emotional because, as Tony said, it's been a long time coming, and without the support of everybody in the community, and all the members, we wouldn't be where we are today.
03:10And, you know, it's lovely to see your dream come true, and it's been hard work, and like Tony said, it's been ups and downs, but today is very special.
03:19And I'm very pleased you're here to join it, join in with me and be here with me, so thank you.
