00:00Wetherspoons is a staple of British culture. Cheap booze, cheap food and there's never
00:06a dull moment in one either. There are over 800 spoons in the UK and over 100 in Greater
00:14London. There's basically a Wetherspoons on every London high street. But which is
00:20the best Wetherspoons in the capital? Well I went on a quest to find out. With over 100
00:27different pubs to choose from, where is the best place to start? Well looking at reviews
00:32is always a good idea, right? According to TripAdvisor, the best one in the capital is
00:39Shakespeare's Head in Holborn with an overall rating of 4 out of 5. But does the highest
00:44TripAdvisor rating really mean the best Wetherspoons in London? It's in a good location, there's
00:50a little outside area as you walk in as well. It feels like a pretty standard Wetherspoons,
00:57nothing too fancy, no quirks, just a good old fashioned spoons. There's lots of tables
01:03stretching from back to front so a positive is that there's probably always a place to
01:07eat and drink. And it boasts the typical Wetherspoons carpet as you walk in as well. When it comes
01:14to the food, the menu was the standard Wetherspoons menu available in any of its pubs up and down
01:19the country. It had a nice enough atmosphere, people seemed to be enjoying themselves but
01:24to be honest, I couldn't really make out anything remarkable about this Wetherspoons. Because
01:31what really makes a spoons a spoons? And is it really good reviews? Is it the service?
01:37Or even the slight risk of witnessing a scrap at the bar? Well it's probably all of the
01:42above. But for me, it's an outlandish Wetherspoons that makes the best one. One where you walk
01:48in and you think, this can't be a spoons, can it? But is there one like that in the
01:53capital? Well, yes there is. Pretty central to Crosskeys in Bank, I believe is undoubtedly
02:02the best Wetherspoons in London. It's in the middle of the financial district and it's
02:06hidden in plain sight next door to a sushi bar and opposite offices. The Crosskey doesn't
02:13look like a conventional Wetherspoons from the outside or the inside. Because as you
02:18enter you are greeted by long marble pillars that hold up a high ceiling. To your left
02:24there's a winding staircase that leads down to the restrooms and a swirling bar in the
02:29middle. It's kind of got a great hall type atmosphere with all sorts of people getting
02:34food and drink and it's projector playing the Olympics put the one in Holborn to shame.
02:41But perhaps best of all, in one of London's most expensive areas, it's Wetherspoon prices.
02:48The bar's cheapest lager was a Bud Light, costing just £4.31. Not bad for central London
02:55at all. For more, head to londonworld.com
