00:05where more than 70 families were affected.
00:08The government continues to help them.
00:12This is the story of Bien Manalo.
00:16In 2020, during the pandemic,
00:20when Cristina del Rosario, 52 years old, and her three children lived in Pag-asa Island, Calayaan, Palawan,
00:29she was born in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
00:32But due to the lack of income and poverty in their area, she moved to another town.
00:38It's hard there. We only have a small store.
00:43We still don't have enough to consume.
00:46Cristina is now an agricultural staff in Calayaan, LGU.
00:50Like Cristina, her family also chose to live in Pag-asa Island in 2019.
00:58Apriline is also an agricultural staff in the municipality.
01:01Her husband is a construction worker.
01:04We improved a lot compared to our area in the mainland where we also don't have enough income.
01:11In the last census, the total population of Pag-asa Island reached more than 300 in the second quarter of the year.
01:19More than 200 are the elderly, while more than 100 are the children.
01:25According to the local government, the lack of income is the main reason for people to move to other towns.
01:33That's why they chose to live in Puerto Princesa because it's hard to make a living there.
01:39If you live there, you'll have to spend a lot of money and you won't have a job.
01:47More than 30% of the island's population increased.
01:52More than 300 people moved to the island last year.
01:56It's expected to grow to more than 500 before the end of the year.
02:01According to the residents, aside from the rich sea, they received rice subsidies and other assistance from the government.
02:10Most of the residents of Pag-asa Island are fishermen, construction workers,
02:16and employees of the municipality who are in the contract of service.
02:20Meanwhile, more than 70 families, or more than 300 individuals,
02:27were affected by the landslides and floods in Pag-asa Island.
02:32More than 200 food packs were distributed by the LGU.
02:36The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources continues to provide assistance to fishermen,
02:43including providing boats and other fishing equipment.
